  • It's not Ronnie but he's also awesome

  • This was the first Mingus record i owned. Might be my fav. Raw power.

  • wow

  • I play the 1st trombone for this at my school and it sounds amazing. this song was one of the best jazz songs i've ever heard

  • When Mingus starts screaming, you know its the right take!

  • ahi viene el tren!

  • Briilliant

  • 0 dislikes, 0 stupid people can arrive so far till here

  • That bari makes me happy

  • what a badass song, cant wait to play this on my bari.

  • See, now my highschool did this last year when I was a freshman... Oh man I play bass trombone for jazz, and I gotta tell you... It was incredible, we played this at the Reno jazz festival and we did pretty great. This brings back good memories, I got to share the barry part and It sounded divine

  • I love this song so much, and this song is why i even play in a jazz band!

  • it was not composed by Charles Mingus

  • @JumpDiffusion Um... yes it was

  • @JumpDiffusion You're thinking of the wrong "Moanin'".

  • 0 Dislikes - That's what I'm talkin' about!

  • @Kodee141414 SHUT UP

  • Total class - tight as you like.

  • Love Mingus, totally love this version of Moanin' : ).

  • Guess who has two thumbs and rocks this part in his jazz band? This guy right here.

  • @JebusTheHippie Hell yeah.

  • Pepper is killer, but I prefer ronnie on this song.

  • This is some massive swinging sound. I can see these cats just tearing a joint to fucking shreds! It's like honey to my soul, OMG!!:-) I can just imagine cats who didn't have what it took to swing like this listening in the club and just getting up and leaving. What else could they do?

  • Some people think that family of Saxophones are brass instruments. NO, its woodwind ;)

  • though like this recording much better, the improve is crazy watch?v=__OSyznVDOY

  • yes thats the original, to whoever asked :)

  • Charles Mingus and his message forever!

  • I just can't fucking get enough

  • rfl308:yes this is the original version

  • @hremdldw original original?? cool.

  • is this the original version?

  • mingus is fuckin dope. absolute an inspiration for hiphop listeners

  • This is a different composition with the same name. It is not a rearrangement of Timmons song. It is by Mingus

  • not composed by mingus, moanin was composed by bobby timmons. huge rearrangement though.

  • @letebaguere Sorry pal, this has nothing to do with bobby timmons at all. Completely different piece of music with the same name written entirely by Mingus. If you want confirmation of this check the record/cd sleeve.

  • Talk about reimagining a song. Never heard this before and Moanin by Art Blakey is one of my all time favorite tunes.

  • jackie mclean's solo (first one) is just the best advice for a solo transcription i could ever give to anyone... master at work... you really learn how to play minor listening to this

  • this whole song is incredible, but the last 8 or so bars of booker's solo are pure poetry

  • so smooth but so wild and crazy. not out of control but no point.

  • Thumbs up if u were here after watchin' Casey and Haley duet

    :)

  • hahaha 0 dislikes!

  • legit

  • The first time I heard this song I couldn't believe what I was hearing. It's the musical equivalent of a runaway train that's just about to go flying off the tracks but manages to stay under control. Mingus isn't just my favorite jazz composer, he's my favorite composer period.

  • great!

  • Alto soloist was Jackie McLean right? Sounds like him.

  • I love the way that the beginning of Booker's solo is basically just him.

  • Anyone who doesn't like jazz should listen to this song, it would change their opinion.

  • AMAZING PIECE!!! just as all of mingus's compositions and peformances. LOL I first thought this is golson's moanin

  • Genius

  • Phenomenal!

  • OLD SCHOOL:X

  • ESPETACULAR! VERY, VERY GOOD!

  • THIS is why i play bearitone saxophone.

  • @wilky1189

    bearrrrrrritone grrr

  • @wilky1189 *Baritone. Failure. Can't even spell it correctly.

  • @TheFugitivesSeries i know how it's supposed to be spelled.....but when i play it, i play it like a big angry papa bear. hence, BEAR-itone.. :D

  • @TheFugitivesSeries I wonder if Pepper Adams knew how to spell baritone... Who gives a fuck??? he plays it he's not some spelling bee nerd. Quit being a pretentious douchebag

  • @snubbs741 Lol you want to start something on the internet? Hahahahaha. Quit bitching you buthurt body, I wasn't even talking to you.

  • @TheFugitivesSeries ok but what's the point in correcting his spelling?

  • @snubbs741 Because it should at least be spelled correctly. What's it to you?

  • @TheFugitivesSeries i guess. the only reason I mentioned it in the 1st place is cause out of all the things in this song that you could've commented on, you chose to call someone out on a spelling error

  • @TheFugitivesSeries Keyboard Hard-Case - beware!!

  • @secretagent3xQ I think its a joke about the massive fat sound of a bari. just a guess.

  • @420Cannabis which one of you guys gonna introduce me into this JAZZ genre??? im interested I need some GOOD jazz soul and funk music homieezz

  • @420Cannabis

That's not completely true. Smooth Jazz is very popular among stupid people.

  • @dearyou1994 haha good point. guess i didn't think about about that cuz smooth jazz barely even counts

  • @420Cannabis That's not true! I'm stupid as shit and I love jazz!

  • i grew up on this. so killing.

  • I love it.

  • Love this song!!! Wow.....

  • I once got to play the bari part on this in front of a few hundred people. One of the best moments of my life.

  • @phlorky awesome!

  • @phlorky would your name happen to be michael and go to walt whitman high school

  • @xXxIFORSAKENxXx LOL, not even close. This was, oh let's see, 10 years ago.

  • @phlorky haha nm cause im in the jazz band in my high school and we played this chart. The Bari player started off on stage by himself and the rest of the band was scattered around the auditorium and then we all walked on stage from different places. It was sick.

  • BAM!

  • Great song, love the sax solos....

  • @LEONCODAJJ . Copiado del encabezado. No entiendo por qué hablais de Art Pepper?

  • the sax is soooooooooooo gooooooooooooooooooood

  • Pepper, Pepper, Pepper !!

  • Pepper Adams is some thing else.Mingus big bands played all styles of big band.A modern dixieland swing like the Savoy Sultans. You wonder why a country like this let's their treasures struggle, but you go to Europe or Japan and you are championed as a great artist, writer, and arranger. These cats are seriously swingin.Mingus was all so a lover of Duke and Sweetpea(Billy Strayhorn).

  • Ooooh, I like this! :o)
