  • mice parker. I've always wanted one of those :/

  • omg... that was sloppy as shit. WACK!

  • this guys good no aj minnete though

  • @Blindjumpmayhem

Yeah, I still can't understand this. THA could be even better live with 3 guitar players. Instead, they kick him out. SMH.

  • I like wheat thins so what?

  • I actually thought it was a really good solo. Anyone saying this solo is shit blah blah blah should post a video of them covering it note for note then I will listen to your nonsense.

  • So.. I'm out of the loop a little bit apparently. I have Digital Veil and I think it's actually an awesome album but Andrew isn't in the band anymore? What happened there? Can someone explain this to me?

  • @ScyllaAndCharybdis1 Andrew left the band about January/February. So he can be heard on the album. Why he left was never really explained but I imagine that three guitarists were considered too much in the band. The way I see it he was kicked rather than that he had left.

  • @AntiBushCheneyMan Which I found funny because a band like this could benefit from three guitar players. They have a heavily classical based sound, and since classical music has alot of layering and melodies going on, three guitar players could have played to their advantage.

  • (continued) I honestly think A.J. will do what he did years ago, leave because he's "not felling it," then they'll call Tapley back, and be like," hey, what's up man, how ya been, wanna jam for a few years then get tossed aside when A.J. makes his return?" I'm not saying either guitarist is better than the other, because I know where you all will stand on that subject. But seriously, its bullshit and its bad business, not the most professional thing they could have done.

  • @polarispkk exactly my feelings on it. very unprofessional of them to do that. after all that talk of the dynamics of three guitarist filling in the gaps of the music they say they don't see themselves with three guitarist. the least they could of done was wait til a live show and at least try it out first. i hope im not the first to admit that i miss tapely and would of loved to see him shred it up live.

  • I have to agree with those who say they should have kept Tapley. A.J. clearly stated he couldn't play metal on stage any more, he wasn't feeling it. I honestly think he missed it, and what do we do when we miss something, we try to get it back, untill it gets old again, then we shove it aside for a bit, then same routine. Honestly, it is fucked up to have let Tapley go, after all, he wasn't filling in for A.J. You don't get a fill-in for a few years, its either you're in or you're out.

  • I just dont like how they lied about it. when asked about how they were going to have 3 guitar players live A.J. said that the album had parts with more than 3 guitar parts. But he was already out they just didnt want to tell the truth.

  • This is a joke right?

  • i feel bad for this guy, he got shit on the whole time he was in the human abstract when a lot of their fans hated the new stuff, and now that their good again he gets kicked out

  • @YDG777 dude I feel ya, I think they should have left Tapley in, he sat through midheavans crap because he saw what the band could do and after recording and writing Digital Veil, they let him go

  • @ihateblizz121 Except AJ wrote Digital veil

  • @Nickzed Wrong. Tapley was involved in the making of that album still.

  • This is acutally the only thing Tapely recorded on the cd. Dean re tracked all of his stuff over a week while Tapely was on vacation.

  • that was an awful solo

  • @7thcircledrummer that was a fucking awesome solo, I loved nocturne, every single song but I have to say that solo is definitely up there with the solo's off of nocturne.

  • @ihateblizz121 dude, that solo was shit, its nothin but a bunch of bends and legato runs and some sweep tapping...generic as shit and definitely way below the human abstracts standard and overall talent level

  • @7thcircledrummer yeah because solos like mea culpa just have sooo much creativity, composed of so many different elements. not like this fool who just overinduldges in sweep picking

  • @KYamada416 lmfao good point but AJ got the classical element

  • Yeah, what's with all the hate, you fucking dildos? Jesus. He's pretty good. AJ's good, too, yes. Chill.

And whoever brought Herman Li up is stupid as hell.

  • What's with some of the Tapley hate in some comments? He came into the band while they writing Midheaven, so I'm guessing his input wouldn't have been as much as it could have been, and in terms of his technical skill he is amazing. He plays all of AJ's Nocturne parts flawlessly live. Anyway, it'll be interesting to see how much Tapley gets to solo and write on Digital Veil. I think him and AJ could do some trade-off solos.

  • he sound like led zeppelin on 0.17-0.27

  • this guys is way better than herman li is!

  • I'm guessing throughout all of that the guy was sitting there like "hm he's playing it pretty good, now if only we could use all these buttons to not make his guitar sound like shit..."

guess they never found the button.

  • Okay, obviously AJ is amazing. We get it. Why all the hate on Tapley? He's a great guitarist as well

  • @anonymous564 How is it sloppy? The alternate picking was actually extremely clean (not just saying that, way better compared to most other metal dudes your hear these days) and both left and right hands are on the same page in the sweeps. Don't see how he screwed it up at all.

  • Comment removed

  • @anonymous564 Keep licking aj's nut sack, you keep trying to find something wrong with Tapley's playing, but you haven't succeeded.

  • Comment removed

  • @anonymous564 lol no they dident they would never do it cuz they play this live all the time. either dean took it or he got it down. so stop hating on him i bet u can even play this at half the speed

  • Comment removed

  • @anonymous564 lol i can play alot of stuff by bands i listen to. just not this band. i like. and it does if u cant do anybetter shut up or give constructive criticism is fine but like saying he sucks and stuff like that is uncalled for

  • Comment removed

  • @anonymous564 how i love ignorant people. you dont know me at all. I dont say someone is as bad musician. you dont know how well or poorly i can play guitar. i dont even know know herman li is so your argument is invalid. and im not on a hight horse. Im just not an ass whip.

  • @cakeisbetterthenfish I don't have to know you to know that you've said someone is bad at something before; when it's almost inevitable that you have at some point. The fact that you can't comprehend this and will probably continue to deny it makes your first sentence ironic.

Just because you don't know who herman li is doesn't make it invalid. You can take my argument and apply the idea to a million different things.

  • what song is this in?

  • @TheGethigh420 i think its Counting down the days

  • @TheGethigh420 Breathing Life Into Devices

  • Awful...

  • @NoAppend Though I don't see why everyone complains about Tapley, he didn't get a chance to write much, he really is a good record, so im looking forward to hearing some of his parts on this new album.

  • @NoAppend Totally agree man

  • @NoAppend And I love me some progressive metal.

  • @NoAppend Looks like they are going the Periphery root, which might fit these guys pretty well right now.

  • Without Nathan and now 3 guitars the new album is probably going to be their best by far.

  • @NoAppend hes officially rejoined the band as the guitarist. at first he was just going to do studio, but now hes back full time.

  • Awful.

  • booooring.

  • does anyone have a tab for this solo? i wanna learn it sooo fkn bad

  • was it just me or did the tone of midheavan suck balls? like the musician ship was good but it was a little lack lustre. the guitar tone was poor and nathan ells trying to do all that fancy scale-ish(?) singin (im not a singer i dont know the technical terminology but he was doing vocal techniques he wasnt capable of and dicked it up) and generally was less well composed and thought out than Nocturne

  • 34 seconds and 1:08. awful, sloppy, and out of key. this guy sucks.

  • @tomisabeast

it isn't out of key. it's strange sounding, but definitely not out of key.

  • @tomisabeast Only noob musicians think out of key = bad.

  • @StewieSwan lol or people that arent musicians trying to talk shit on youtube about a real musician

  • @tomisabeast Who the fuck are you to give him crap? I dont think you know what your talking about

  • @tomisabeast do better, ill be waiting for your response

  • @tomisabeast Its cool that you can say he is sloppy and out of key and then post on other videos asking how to drop tune your guitar with baritone strings

  • what song is this solo from

  • @peterespinal breathing life into devices

  • Everyone should listen to this guys guest solo in austrian death machine's song, i need your clothes, your boots, and your motorcycle!

  • Watching Andrew play his solo I can't help but get reminded of Ms. Frizzle.........

  • that bald dude's head is so shiny.

  • the guy below me took the words right out of my mouth

  • I think Midheaven rocks!!!

The sound is unique, the arrangements of the songs are way better than on Nocturne...

Nocturne sounds not that special, it could be written by any prog-metal guy, its just double-bass and solo noodling all the time!

The Songs on Midheaven are diverse and much more interesting.

To me, it's a mess Nathan had to leave, and AJ is "comin back"...

Nevertheless I'm excited about the new album!

  • Midheaven did lack but there is a lot of music talent between the group and I think to harshly brand the record undermines them of this...

  • Anyone know when the 2010 album is coming out???

  • What is the problem with everyone?

Andrew barely did any writing on Midheaven. If someone says he's a bad player they better check out how easily he handles the Mea Culpa solo at warped.

ANYWAY. With AJ back to produce the next album for THA and Tapley with his amazing technical skills the new album should be a blast.I just hope that they dont get a singer who cant do any singing. If it will be simple growls for the vocalist THA will lose part of its beauty and melodicness they had with Nathan.

  • Tapley definitely knows what he's doing. He's not BAD by any stretch of the imagination. However, I don't dig his tone that much on this album, and he is sloppy at times. A.J is better by a long shot but Tapley doesn't suck, no no not at all

  • @cornboy111 quite the contrary, Tapley is much less sloppy than AJ

  • this guitarist is amazing regardless if Aj is better, i cant stand it when ppl say this guy sucks at guitar

  • whats the song hes playing?

  • this is breathing life into devices off of midheaven. one of the better songs off of the album, i thought.

  • AJ ALL THE WAY! This guy is super sloppy.

  • Well he better pull the rabbit out of his ass cuz Nocturne is a guitar players wet dream. I mean he's a good guitar player but Midheaven didn't even compare

  • if anyone is wondering, this is the solo from breathing life into devices. as a huge nocturne fan, i was decently suprised by this individual song offa the midheaven album, so i suggest you all check it out.

  • luke from pth is good but he does alot of solos that are just single shapes down the neck, not even scales

in comparison to aj hes much less musically talented but in guitar technique they are equal.

and does anybody know if aj ever joined another band? the music industry needs more albums like nocturne

  • no he just does solo classical performances.

  • He said he was tired of playing metal in general so I doubt it. And if he did, since he was the only member to thank God on the album flap it'd probably be a religious band.

  • @ lololihaveaids - AJ will atually be the producer for THA`s newest album that will come out sometime in 2010. =) Check it out on their myspace

  • how is laughing without smiling in the related videos lol

  • Ok KYamada416 I'll admit that he's pretty good but if you listen to Nocturne and then Midheaven....no fucking comparison of Andrew to Aj. Nocturne is WAAAAAYYYYY better than Midheaven and we have Aj to thank for that

  • Andrew did like no writing on this album you cant compare them yet...

  • hes good but I still prefer AJs style. the new album in my opinion just doesn't have the same feel to it. but they are still good.

  • Awesome !

  • this solo just seems like mindless shredding, there isn't the emotion that AJ had :\

  • he seems like hes playing with emotion and feeling. AJ dosent have that much emotion either. mea culpa solo is just sweeping, sweeping , sweeping. wheres the emotion in that? this guy is amazing. better than AJ IMO

  • at least it had a nice chord progression to it. it's just my opinion, but i find pentatonic riffs so unoriginal now, and all his wide vibrato just sounds like the usual metal solo. AJ never did shit like that, his stuff was more original i found. and he's DEFINITELY a better guitarist then this guy

  • He's good, he just doesn't have what AJ had or can fill that vacuum of that was created when he left.

He's very talents he just can't measure up. And AJ probably did write a greater portion of the music.

  • Of course their sound changed...guitarists don't have the same style. AJ definitely is very talented, but I think Andrew is a good replacement, very different sound, but I like it.

  • i dont like the human abstract without aj because theyre sound totally changed, making you think aj was the one behind all of the writing

  • lets face it, hes not or never will be as good as aj

  • This guy is a much more cleaner player and definitely better player. Do i think nocturne was a better album? Yes i think most people agree with that, but Andrew didn't do much writing on this album. We'll have to wait till the next to see if he measures up.

  • @lankeysob

Too bad A.J is coming back to write on the 3rd album, thus, we wont hear much if at all any writing on Andrews part. =/

    *sigh*

    Maybe the fourth?

  • who knows hopefully we'll see some on the 3rd

  • @lankeysob

I do hope. From what I did hear of his writing on Midheaven, I enjoyed it in copious amounts. I just feel as though A.J will take over a large portion of the writing on the next album, but I hope Andrew does instead.

  • Dude, Midheaven was a trainwreck. I'm so glad AJ is coming back. When he left I figured there would be no big change, but when AJ left, I left this band. Regardless of Andrew, the 2nd album was poo. Whatever, I'm over it. And over them too.

  • You know that aj's back and the singer left riiight?

  • Comment removed

  • AJ owns this guy in sheer creativity.

  • @theoak84 Maybe in terms of writing, but as much as I love AJ, so many 8th note triplet sweeps and "kinda fast" alternate picked scales gets a little dull after a point.

  • @Steve128967 Maybe, Id like to see him do another album with them, or a solo project. I dig his classical essence and metal riffs in combination. I also like his style of writing. Ill have to say, hes better than any of these big names in the new metal arena like Synyster, Corey, or those types. pure metal shred gets boring, good thing i listen to more than one type of music.

  • @theoak84 I read a comment from someone a long time ago who said that AJ wanted to straight-up do classical once he left the band. And he's doing a classical guitar performance at his college sometime soon I think. You can find him over Facebook, real nice guy, will probably talk to you about, like, anything.

Synyster Gates, of course, however in terms of pure shredability I think Corey Beaulieu (if that is who you mean) is a little better... music-wise AJ is better than both, though.

  • @Steve128967 Ya, i heard that about AJ too, and I talked to him a few times on FB, I was asking him about Sotto Voce, i was getting confused because I was trying to learn it, but its in E standard. He is real nice! I cant stick with just metal though, Petrucci and Govan are the best for my ears. Andy Timmons and Kotzen as well. But i love jazz, and tenor sax. im all over the place.

  • @theoak84 amen. aw dude sucks i can never talk to him on fb he never answers back (N)

  • whos the lead guitarist? him or dean?

  • It doesn't quite work like that. In most bands even it doesn't work that way. There are simply two pretty well matched guitar players.

  • i think this guy is lead. who ever solos is lead IMO

  • They both solo. They both play rhythm. Hell, they trade parts off and on live. Which is why there is not a rhythm and lead guitarist, just like most good bands.

  • i can name a bunch of bands where theres a rhythym and lead guitarist. eg PTH, BTBAM

  • I don't know much about BTBAM, but PTH is definitely not like that.

  • luke does most of the leads. tim plays mostly chords and riffs

  • I would agree that Luke does more, but I wouldn't agree that he does most. There are exceptions. And a ton of the leads are harmonized anyway.

  • yeah a bunch of the leads are harmonized i agree. but luke does all (or most of) the tapping, sweeping and other solo bits. which is why i consider him lead. but w.e

  • Luke is definitely the dominant player though. He plays almost all the sweeps, tapping riffs etc.

  • Luke does get more leads than Tim, but they still both do the, as the vast majority of the leads are harmonized. Luke probably gets more because he's a slightly better player. I doubt they go "okay, you're lead, I'm rhythm," it's probably more like "Well, you're more likely to get this cleanly live."

  • Oh yeah I definitely agree with you, they both do get lead parts, and I'm sure Luke didn't just burst into the first band meeting declaring himself as the lead guitarist. But Luke does get away with playing more of the solos and whatnot than Tim does.

  • well put

  • not necessarily luke and tim both solo and paul and dusty both solo

  • 2 best bandseverrr

  • last few seconds: WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

  • I think Andrew was a good replacement, this solo fits the song perfectly

  • what song is this?

  • breathing life into devices

  • breathing life into devices!!

    Cruel Sources!!

  • the coolest thing is that since AJ left Dean plays alot of his old leads from Nocturne. And sometimes they trade off. They were so sick when I saw them Live in Buffalo with Protest the Hero

  • i bet that was fucking awesome, i was supposed to see those two with as i lay dying and god forbid in pittsburgh, but the concert was canceled cuz of snow

  • Same, when I saw them in Milton Keynes with Protest, I'm so happy I got to meet this guy! Haha

  • i'm rly rly mad at the guy who produced this album because the human abstract is a very guitar heavy band and he turned down the guitars really low in the mix and also i am dissapointed in the album all together because it is way way too political and it's just bad

  • I got his pick, he was fucking amazing live

  • SIGH...I MISS AJ'S SKILLS

  • Everything this guy does is a variation on something else he does. If that's on purpose, and he's following a theme it's cool, but if that's all he knows how to do then he sucks.

  • not trying to flame him or anything but that was just ugh... one of the worst solos i've ever heard. as far as writing goes i mean, it's just so boring.

  • i have at agree

  • I like A.J. much better because of the things he writes and his classical influence, and I think he's an overall better player, but I definitely give this guy credit, he's a great player and writes some pretty cool stuff.

I just wish A.J. never left.

  • Imagine what A.J and Andrew Tapley could have come up with if they worked together. that would be Immence, but I'm sure A.J will pop up again some wear, hes in another band now (I think)

  • Exactly, they could really write some great stuff, I like Tapley's solo here, and with A.J. too it would be godly.

But hopefully A.J. pops up in another band or something, I heard he wants to break away from metal though, and that's why he apparently left The Human Abstract, cause he's more classical influenced.

  • Yea, you could defiantly hear that on nocturne, hopefully he dosen't completely leave metal, he would be a great neo-classical writer :) maybe he can team up with Paul Waggoner ;)

  • Hahaha wow yeah, if he ever teamed up with Paul Waggoner they would be a deadly unstoppable force, seriously, those are my 2 favorite guitarists.

  • @BTBAM14 Everything's gonna be ok now though since AJ is back! AND Tapley's still in the band. Minette, Tapley, and Herrera all in the band at the same time. That's 3 epic ass guitarists in one band. It's gonna be awesome.

  • @BTBAM14 AJ rejoined the band.

  • keep it up tapley. sick shred

  • What song was this solo from?

  • breathing life into devices, track 3

  • Best track off the album

  • AJ was good, i like Andrews playing better.

but AJ wrote the better songs by far.

not saying they suck now, just saying Nocturne was devastating

  • aj was the band, this guy suck

  • A.J. Minette = 100x better

  • I like the new stuff, the old stuff was great but I think the change is cool, if a band keeps writing the same kind of stuff for too long it gets terribly boring. With the word "abstract" in their name you'd expect them to change and improve their style... good to be open minded. :-)

  • I liked Nocturne better. AJ leaving was bad. He should've stayed even though he didn't like the music. It was DEFINITELY under the band's control whether he stayed or not. Bands should never change styles even if they lose their writer from the last album. Tapley sucks even though there isn't anything wrong with him except for the fact that I am a butthurt bitch who dreams about making love to AJ - 70% of the people who comment this video.

  • his playing reminds me of rick renstrom

  • chyeahh, I smoked with him at Warped in Portland.

    fuckin savage

  • Portland Maine or Oregon? I'm from Maine

  • Portland Oregon

  • I grew up less than 60 feet away from his house hahahaha

  • that's tight man

  • what song is this from

  • I kinda hear holdsworth in his sweeps.

  • Comment removed

  • Hey its scott sterritt who are you ? fuck st marys i live in toronto now... by the way.... GOOD Job to Andrew, still remember watchin him in his garage, when i lived right by his house.

  • is that the hot lady with big tits that used to be married to Rob Edney????

  • Cruuueellll soouurcesss

  • we'll just have to wait till the next album because Tapley didnt write much on this one

  • He's good, but no where near Minette, no one can write like him, I wish they still had him:[
