  • @vic21731 change that to ishmaelart

  • Great book. Great art.

  • sick go Asheville

  • we dont need religion to tell us how to live

  • ismael is straight as fuck, he used to rule asheville n.c.

  • That was hella tight

  • Right on.

  • with gorilla gone, will there be hope for man?

  • Stay Up Ishmael!

  • dats my name

  • long live the gorilla

  • Huh, I wonder how many there are now that know. Everyone should know. I bet we could fix it. Tell Everyone. It should be new religion, and not some painfull religion like all the others are doing.

  • incredible artwork, but probably one of the most civilized, anti-ishmael songs you could have chosen

  • I agree completely. they should have used a rise against song off of there album the sufferer and the witness, since Ishmael was credited as some of the inspiration for the album.

  • @briansaccount hahahaha "true"

  • I love it. I would say that the gorilla does represent Ishmael pretty well, just because although he was a peaceful gorilla, he was still a gorilla and knew each animals' place in the wild. To me, his rage in this art reflects his desperation and ergencie to save the world through his students.

  • the Art is great but I have to agree with zzz3333 Ismael was not angry outwardly, but a teacher and a peaceful captive. This art makes me think of King Kong NOT Ishmael. This just doesn't reflect Ishmael at all for me. However the Artwork is WONDERFUL and captures the attention. Reminds me of Shepard Fairy.

  • Maybe Ishmael SHOULD of been mad!!??!!

Maybe King Kong was once like Ishmael, and grew angry and wanted to SMASH civilization!!

Destroying the cities is what it's all about!

  • pride of charleston! thanks for your constant encouragement to read the biggest wake up call of my life.

  • did you read the book?

  • dumb question

  • are you sure it's a dumb question?

    did you read the book?

i was just saying, they made the gorilla pretty scary looking....

Ishmael wasn't a scary dude with big sharp teeth like that...

What kind of message are they tryna send?

  • its just art man.

  • it should be more than that

  • i'm halfway though, gettin my pipe ready.

  • Yeah, I noticed that...he looked a little like Goliath. :o)

  • im the artist and this is my mission statement:My mission is to visually attract viewers to a book called ishmael written by Daniel Quinn .I believe this book deprograms our institutionalized thoughts and sends us on a journey to invent. So yea Quinn gives no answers its up to us to invent the answers.

  • good book - whats your medium?

  • it looks like the artist's medium is paint on a wall, and youtube videos.

  • AAAAAAAAAAaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!

    bozo

  • bozo?

Are you calling me names? Why?

  • @noraone FUCK YES!!! I LOVE THIS BOOK

  • @ScoobyDewbieDoo but the musics pretty bad...

  • tribalspace, right on. I guess it's possible to read an entire book and not "get it" at all....on any level. People like that above post who needs people to tell him what to do are why we are humans are such destructive bumbling idiots. Be a man, and man up. Figure it out son.

  • Nice art, but don't you think you could have used the video to give people a clue as to what the book is about? I can't see that the video inspires any interest in the book.

  • I'd love to get a picture of that, if any1 has it.

  • I saw Ishmael up at the Old hobo place by the Cooper River bridge. They tore that place down now, but that spot was the best, with those clear white letters, everyone knew who ishmael was. Even non-writers.

  • I didn't particularly love the book. The art here is amazing, but I don't like the fact that Quinn doesn't provide a viable alternative to stop us from our self assured destruction.

  • you want to be spoon fed? do your own thinking.

  • Have you read the sequel(s)?

  • Read The Story of B, then read My Ishmael, then read Beyond Civilization. If you don't want to read all of that, then read Beyond Civilization...that'll give you what you want. Respect!

  • I just read Ishmael,

    and it changed my world-view.

Thanks for bringing him to life. =]

  • That's incredible.

What kind of paint are you using? Where did the inspiration to make this come from? Why choose Ishmael? How long did it take you, actually?

  • i only captured the "moment", the artist is a friend of mine. his inspiration came from the above mentioned book, and it took about 45 minutes, comfortably...

i will post some more videos of his work soon.
