They were slaves. This is well recorded in Persian history as well as Arab and Islamic history. Genetically these people are not J1 or J2 carriers so they aren't indigenous to Asia. Doesn't necessary validate the claim of them being former slave but ask any Arab what does "abeed" mean...

@markellion Have you seen the documentaries "The Journey of Man," & "The Human Family Tree?" What i learned was that when Africans migrated out of Africa thousands of years ago,...they settled along the coasts of Iran and India. As well islands in the Indian ocean. As Africans were migrating their genetic make up changed. So i don't think some of the people you speak of were necessarily slaves,..They are indigenous peoples who migrated on their own thousands of years ago.

That's absolutely true, my Great Great Great Grandmother was one of those slaves who was bought here after the offiical abolishment of slavery.

Many Iraqis are already dark skinned but there is also the issue of where the victims of the expansion of the slave trade went to.
