If you perceive Good as being a scorer then yes Ovechkin is great. But Crosby can score and, what he does best, ASSIST. Crosby is better because he makes everyone a scorer. Ovechkin is selfish and a disgrace to the image of the NHL with his demeanor.

Being tough also includes battling through, blocking shots, playing some defense which wins games and more importantly championships. We're all still waiting for an Ovechkin led team to win a second round of the playoffs through 4+ seasons.

I watch the caps, I watch the pens, I watch mostly every team, the players on the caps just litterally throw the puck at him and he just scores. Watch OV's 50th goal and you'll see what i'm talking about, takes on a 1-3 and scores on a simple shot. Now if you had his scoring ability you'd be in the NHL doing the same thing.
I don't think you ever really denied the fact that Ovie throws the puck on net way more than anyone else. My question is, if other great players in the league did that, would their goal numbers shoot up, and their assists drop a bit? I think so, but those guys play a team-oriented game, making teammates better. I think Ovie is great, I just think he's more worried about his stats and glory than he is about his brotheren.

I don't agree that making a teammate better statistically by getting him lame assists makes him better. I think giving a teammate opportunities to score makes him better. But I think we can agree to disagree, that you admire a guy who shoots a ton and gets lots of goals, and I admire a guy who makes plays develop amongst several players through precisicion passing, "pretty" plays, if you will. I think we each admire both styles, but one likes a certain style a bit more than the other. Right?
I wouldn't go as far as to say I admire both styles. OV's style is cocky, brash, and stat oriented. Sid's style is humble and team oriented. I do admire OV's talent, because he's got mad talent. But I think he's a punk. Tell me he doesn't play the game to make the highlight reel and I'll tell you you're full of crap. Sid's got mad talent too, but he plays the game to win, regardless of accolades.
Dunno if any of you remember when Jordan was playing with the Bulls before they started winning all the championships. Jordan took over games and scored more points than the rest of the team combined. He was just as talented then as he was when they were winning championships, but there was a difference on the team...the Bulls weren't winning championships when Jordan did it all. They began winning when he finally got a supporting cast that he could rely on.
And guess what happened to Jordan's point/assist numbers when they started winning championships? His points went down and his assists went up. You think OV has more talent this year than last? I don't. And I don't think OV and the Caps will go any further in the playoffs this year. The Caps don't scare me at all, and they won't until OV decides that assists are just as good as goals.
It's hard to compare basketball in hockey, but in your comparrison it's not. In both games a supporting cast is crucial. A bit more in hockey I think, but you're not winning an NBA championship if you have Lebron and 4 below average players on the floor, that's for sure. I think the Caps are a young, dangerous team, and I agree they'd be more dangerous if Ovie better used some of the resources around him.

And while I'm in partial agreement that fighting isn't the only thing makes players "tough" it certainly can be a part of it. Being tough also includes battling through, blocking shots, playing some defense which wins games and more importantly championships. We're all still waiting for an Ovechkin led team to win a second round of the playoffs through 4+ seasons.

Imho, OV is playing the game more for his own stats. And sorry, but the last time we played the Caps, we won 4-3. We also beat the Bruins and the Flames in the past week or so. 17-3 over the last 20 games...trust me, the east is concerned about the Pens.

here's a great story about that hat Sid is wearing. there was a charity bowling event for ill children. the kid Crosby was bowling with had cancer. that week, Crosby got the flu. he couldnt be around the kid because if the kid got the flu he could die fast. so Sid has talked to the kid alot since then and the kid gave Crosby his hat. now Crosby wears the hat all the time. pretty nice and classy move.

When the Pens went to the playoffs in 06-07 after a horrible year before that, Crosby had 120 points. Malkin had 85, and they didn't play on the same line. Not saying Malkin isn't possibly the best player in hockey, but obviously Sid did quite a bit without Geno.
Also, Crosby has a better shot % than OV. Only OV has shot the puck 243 more times this season as of today. Now tell me who has more talent, and who is more of a puck hog/ spotlight-chaser.

There's no other player that can shoot tons of low % shots? Of course there are, they just choose to pass when there's a chance to set up a higher % shot. You can't watch that guy play and not call him selfish unless you're blind, or from Washington (in which case there's about a 99.9999% chance you've never laced up skates and shouldn't be talking hockey..... at all)

I honestly wish more people could have intelligent discussion on youtube. Any video you go to you see, "fuck your mom," and "suck my dick." Too many unsupervised children, I think. You play hockey in college currently? I played 2 yrs at St. Cloud State before the lack of playing time and injuries made me think it was a good idea to hang it up. I'm surprised that you don't bust Ovie more on "code" infractions, as a competitive player.

(ran outta space) Now on to OV, he plays with a pure playmaking center with Backstrom. Look at his stats 19-56. Its not like OV is selfish the man just scores. I watch the caps, I watch the pens, I watch mostly every team, the players on the caps just litterally throw the puck at him and he just scores. Watch OV's 50th goal and you'll see what i'm talking about, takes on a 1-3 and scores on a simple shot. Now if you had his scoring ability you'd be in the NHL doing the same thing.

I don't think you ever really denied the fact that Ovie throws the puck on net way more than anyone else. My question is, if other great players in the league did that, would their goal numbers shoot up, and their assists drop a bit? I think so, but those guys play a team-oriented game, making teammates better. I think Ovie is great, I just think he's more worried about his stats and glory than he is about his brotheren.

oh no im not saying he doesn't throw it on net more than anyone else, he obviously does with his shot total, but hey man he scores like crazy. it could be better like Parise's stats 41-47 for 88 points, but OV's aren't even that bad... 52-44 for 96? he's still definately a great teammate. you have to look at it this way, he makes his teammates better when they constantly pass him the puck and he scores. just watch there powerplay they just slip it to him at the point and he one-times it all day.

I don't agree that making a teammate better statistically by getting him lame assists makes him better. I think giving a teammate opportunities to score makes him better. But I think we can agree to disagree, that you admire a guy who shoots a ton and gets lots of goals, and I admire a guy who makes plays develop amongst several players through precisicion passing, "pretty" plays, if you will. I think we each admire both styles, but one likes a certain style a bit more than the other. Right?

I wouldn't go as far as to say I admire both styles. OV's style is cocky, brash, and stat oriented. Sid's style is humble and team oriented. I do admire OV's talent, because he's got mad talent. But I think he's a punk. Tell me he doesn't play the game to make the highlight reel and I'll tell you you're full of crap. Sid's got mad talent too, but he plays the game to win, regardless of accolades.

Dunno if any of you remember when Jordan was playing with the Bulls before they started winning all the championships. Jordan took over games and scored more points than the rest of the team combined. He was just as talented then as he was when they were winning championships, but there was a difference on the team...the Bulls weren't winning championships when Jordan did it all. They began winning when he finally got a supporting cast that he could rely on.

And guess what happened to Jordan's point/assist numbers when they started winning championships? His points went down and his assists went up. You think OV has more talent this year than last? I don't. And I don't think OV and the Caps will go any further in the playoffs this year. The Caps don't scare me at all, and they won't until OV decides that assists are just as good as goals.

It's hard to compare basketball in hockey, but in your comparrison it's not. In both games a supporting cast is crucial. A bit more in hockey I think, but you're not winning an NBA championship if you have Lebron and 4 below average players on the floor, that's for sure. I think the Caps are a young, dangerous team, and I agree they'd be more dangerous if Ovie better used some of the resources around him.

no im totally on your side about playmaking dldetwi. i play as a playmaker and find myself dishing out passes. i just admire his ability to score thats all. hes got a rip, and skates his balls off, but ya i guess this is agree to disagree lol. oh and burgnet he probly plays to look sweet and he does it, but OV definately plays the game to win and saying sid does and OV doesnt is stupid. no one in the east is really concerned about the pens either, only teams im concerned about are philly and nj.

Glad we're straight on the OV/Sid thing. You're not worried about the Pens? If my boys (Wild) were in the East I would be. Phili and especially NJ are probably to be feared the most (by the Caps). But Pitt got 100x better after adding Guerin and Kunitz at the deadline, and Carolina is one of the hottest teams in the league since getting Cole back. Those two teams will snipe someone in the 1st round. Shit, I just hope my team makes it at this point. We've all been here, right?

dude idk man i just see teams still beat the pens for example the last time the pens played the caps (5-2 victory)... i'm not a fan of either team but honestly if either team won it would be cool to see. both teams have alot of players who havent won a cup, but ya the canes are on a role. they just beat nj last night and cam ward looked amazing in net. boston is a force if they play like the beginning of the year but i dont think their goin. my teams are nj and big surprise here... the wings lol

Still think that no one in the east is concerned about the Pens? I know the Devils are slumping right now, but still.
I only see OV's sportscenter highlights, but I watch all the Pens games. I see Sid giving up his body to block shots whenever he can. Does OV? What kind of defensive player is he? Does he back check? I really don't know. My impression is that he's probably not real interested in what's going on unless he's leading the rush or lining someone up. Correct me if I'm wrong.

ya nj is definately slumping right now, bad time to with playoffs coming up.... anyway he definately back checks, alot actually, but not to sure i see him blocking alot of shots, but he definately skates back... you got him wrong tho man, he's not terrell owens lol he definately gives up alot to win... of coarse you see him on sportcenter he's always doing something crazy but watch one of their hole games because i was definately surprised and im sure you will be

I don't understand all this Ovie/Crosby hate. Both are great players, amazing players. They are the "faces" of NHL today.
The only thing i can complain about Crosby is his temper, he needs to turn it too his advantage.
Look at Forsberg. When he was mad, he played the best hockey of his life. When Crosby can do that, he will rock the league. Alone. Until then it's Ovies game
