I first heard Frank Ifield sing 'Lovesick Blues' on Australian Bandstand when I was 12 or 13. I didn't really think he belonged on the show but got stuck on the song and thought that Frank was quite a hunk. When I think back to his performance I think he was fantastic, but I have to say that I like Leann Rymes's version better.
damn her voice is great, although I wish she would have kept the instrumentation more classic, I'm just not a fan of the new sound country has developed =/
I wish there had been a video of this recording session. She and the band must have been having fun. Let's not forget the contributions of all the backup bands everywhere.
A great old Hank song, belted out in fine fashion by LeAnn. I've heard she's capable of human imperfection, but until I meet a perfect person, I'll listen to her sing every time I get a chance. I'll probably be listening for quite a while.
I wonder if Hank Williams Sr. estate really gets paid every time someone records his music for sale. I know the publishing company spose to look itno that stuff.
@MrCallipygous I didn't know that! In fact I looked it up and you are correct! It was written by Cliff Friend & Irving Mills, but Hank really put it on the map. Thanks for the correction. See my father was right after all- I don't know everything!
The Greatest Singer since Patsy Cline, I just wish she would sing real country not what some call country today. She has a voice that doesn't need all the electronic gadgets to back up her singing like most of the women's voices today.
That was a superb rendition of Lovesick Blues; modernized to be sure, but very true to and respectful of the original by Hank Williams. Marty Robbins also does a great version ...
...I find it remarkable how anyone can tackle a Miss Patsy Cline song with such vigor or zealous satisfaction. You idiots comment about her personal life all you want - but know - There isn't anyone in country nor rock that has substantial voice to rise to near a challenge...
LeAnn Rimes rocking a bikini while on vacation in Mexico with her partner-in-homewrecking, Eddie Cibrian. she bought herself a pair of D-cups.Because LeAnn Rimes is a moderate singing talent but not a magician, let’s just assume it’s the latter. Interestingly enough, she reportedly not only went to the same plastic surgeon responsible for her fiancé’s ex-wife’s boobies and got the same size breast implants (creepy!), but she did it after mocking Brandi Glanville for being “plastic,”
@AUBD0G The only thing that is good about this song is that it reminds me of Patsy Cline and since Hank wrote it you nobody can say this is bad. The only ok country songs they are sung today is usually bad cover of some old classic.
@Dontreportabug Most of Those old Classics you talk about are just covers too. For example Hank Williams did not write this song. He did however do in my opinion the best version of it. Make sure you know your facts and give credit where credit is due.
@midnightcowboyra Oh, i see. Then I apologize, too bad when good songwriters like Cliff Friend and Irving Mills in this case, is just forgotten. I never heard of them before..
Still think of Hank as the one who popularized country and spread the lovely tunes outside Tennesee, but got to give credit for the ones who made that happend.
@Novasterling : Ethnomusicologists have pinpointed the Cumberland Mountains on the Tennessee/Kentucky border as the original starting point of mountain/folk music that became country music.
@ZetaJaneRose They are incorrect , then. Because Country music is pinpointed to The Carter Family of Macys Springs, Virginia. The mountains of Southwest Virginia is where Country music became noted in the 1920s and the folk music of that region. The first Country music record was made in Bristol, TN but that is a town that is also in Virginia as well.
Love the song, and her voice is really great, but I wish they would have went slower and more acoustic sounding with the music. Less heavy beats and more fiddle/acoustic guitar. It's good, but doesn't compare to the original. Miss you, Hank!!
I saw her on a Disney special when she was like 11. Dang! She could sing phenomonally even back then. Nice to see she's doing well. Natural talent and great style.
"Lovesick Blues" is a show tune written by Cliff Friend and Irving Mills, which has become a popular country song and pop standard. Published through Tin Pan Alley in 1922 made popular by Hank Williams in 1947.
This is kenzi again lol i deleted that channel..now it is kenzsings. =) so you can go to my new page and look at my video of this song if youd like to =)
I wish Leeann had sung this in a lower key - one that fits her natural voice. Her cover of the song. "Crazy", is outstanding. I am amazed she could sing this high without damaging the vocal chords. She's an alto.
Lee Ann does an awesome, bang-up job on this one! (That said, I'll take George Strait every time. The King!) I've never heard Lee Ann's version before. Well-done!
Im so glad she brought back some of these classics with a new twist on them. They where great songs and artist they should get to be heard by a new generation
@tiffanydarlene i completely agree the classics are amazing but some current songs are great too. alot of singers are starting to get into singing emotional and inspiring songs
I prefer this version to Patsy's, but I love them both. Both captured the music of the day and things change.
Repeat after me: Change is good. I am not afraid of change. I don't need to be stuck in the past. The future is not scary. I am not afraid. I will be fine. I will be safe. The future and the present is my friend.
...that's because, like hundreds of singers, she has made a career by imitating, overtly or subtly, Patsy Cline...she is one of the best...just a shame that more people don't realize that it's been done before...and better.
Oh for fuck sake...really? Made a career? Have you checked her video's and songs on YouTube? Do you really think her doing Patsy when she first came out is really the only thing she has done since, over the past twelve years? Honestly? LOL
apparently you haven't. Yes, her voice and intentional "Patsy" phrasing, the range, the yodel..EVERYTHING she ever did including the carbon-copies are good because of Cline's influence. That is not to say that most entertainers don't make careers off of the influence of someone before, but Rimes seem to make no bones about it...LISTEN to Cline!
Listen to her music. They both sing country. LeAnn came out singing Patsy songs, but her versitility is large and she doesn't sing the same style all the time. Just because she sings Patsy songs on occasion doesn't mean anything more than you build it up to be in your head. Its an homage, nothing else. Patsy is the original..bfd...that doesnt mean no one else can sing her songs. Move on
i love to hear her singing and for a lot of country folks i think she sings beautiful. i wish she would of stuck with her yodeling cause i think she would of gone a lot further. at least for people that likes yodeling.
Nothing compared to hank sr you mean "anotherelena" horrible band/and /or producer... her voice is alright with it,but,i'm picky with my hank williams' songs..and this isn't got the feel, too pop.. country pop is killing country!
The last time I heard this song was by Hank Williams. I was a little peep-squirt but, I loved the song and still remember the all of lyrics from back then. Now I can play my guitar to it and sing along. Leeann, you are a dream!
Dang, she can sing this one very well, it would be kool, if they somehow made a Patsy Cline and LeAnn Rimes Duet, just like what they did with Patsy's Duets CD, Leann Rimes and Patsy, that could be magical lol
Yes, I know that, they made a Patsy Cline duet cd a few years back, that had new background music, and teamed her up with new artists, and I think it would be cool, if they did another project like that, to have LeAnn sing with her
It's very possible, just like the Elvis Christmas Duets that they did this year, which did include LeAnn
I first heard Frank Ifield sing 'Lovesick Blues' on Australian Bandstand when I was 12 or 13. I didn't really think he belonged on the show but got stuck on the song and thought that Frank was quite a hunk. Hank the 3rd should kick her pop-country ass, for ruining Hiram Hank Williams' classic.

Hank did a nice cover of this song...... But then you knew that didn't you?
Then it was covered by Patsy Cline, Slim Whitman, Glen Campbell, Jerry Lee Lewis, Linda Ronstadt., Don McLean, George Strait, etc etc etc
Do you really think Hank the third could kick a girl's ass?
This is a good cover. That's why it sold so well.

The last time I heard this song was by Hank Williams. I was a little peep-squirt but, I loved the song and still remember the all of lyrics from back then. Now I can play my guitar to it and sing along. Leeann, you are a dream!
Thanks for posting!!!

Dang, she can sing this one very well, it would be kool, if they somehow made a Patsy Cline and LeAnn Rimes Duet, just like what they did with Patsy's Duets CD, Leann Rimes and Patsy, that could be magical lol

You do know that Patsy Cline has been dead for about 50 years right?

Yes, I know that, they made a Patsy Cline duet cd a few years back, that had new background music, and teamed her up with new artists, and I think it would be cool, if they did another project like that, to have LeAnn sing with her
It's very possible, just like the Elvis Christmas Duets that they did this year, which did include LeAnn
