i love dave but you're making a total generalization about "rappers".. rise above your thoughts, especially if you admire dmb for talking about real issues.. i'm not trying to disrespect you, i'm just saying you must not listen to rap b/c that's a narrow viewpoint.. maybe you meant some rappers but that applies to every genre.
i think this song was influenced by Hurricane Katrina....listen to the line "...i saw a bear on tv and his friends were all drowning cause their homes were turning to water..." such a beautiful and sad and yet hopeful...one of my faves from "whisky"....cannot wait until aug 14-15 in west palm beach!!!
im sorry but its about global warming because is talking about polar bears and the ice is melting "cuz there homes were turning to water". thats why there is a polar bear on the album cover. listen to the chorus and youll see every line is in someway discussing global warming, such as, "wake up you sleepy head i think the suns a little brighter today"
gotta agree. polar bears definitely. sad thing is polar bears and katrina are very much linked. might as well be about a polar bear named katrina. dangerous girl!
dave matthews band newbie! from the little songs i listened to so far i'm hooked! Its funny because i heard of them but never listened because i just never got around to it! I love it so far though!
Hidden meaning? It's completely bleak! It hammers you over the head with bleakness. I don't see how it's hidden, but I also read an interview where the interviewer thought it was a positive song!! WTF? Obviously didn't pay any attention to the lyrics.
definitly a hidden meaning to the song. seems kinda happy but if u listen to words about ice melting, water rising, and an empty ocean u realize the message is more serious. great song, nonetheless.
mm, he's kinda right, but kinda wrong. the progression is the same as "karma police" by radiohead.
that doesn't mean at all that dave stole the song....songs have same progrtessions all the time but are different and unique....I like dave's song MUCH better anyways
I have been figuring out the songs on guitar. I am done with a version of Lying In the Hands of God and Funny the Way it is, I am having trouble with the verse of Dive In though.

whoever said this sounds like radiohead is a fucking idiot.
SaintJAroam 2 years ago
well, it's the same progression at the beginning as Karma police....so not really a fucking idiot but yeah the're quite different in all
TheRayner117 2 years ago
its not the same progression actually dive in is an a minor, c, g then something else. Karma police is an a minor, d, e minor, to a g

Not near obscure enough for a Radiohead song....sounds nothing like them, actually.
