The Wehrmacht acted with Prussian soldier ethics in Africa and on the Western front (as did the Americans and British, contrary to what you claim). On the Eastern front however, things were more brutal. The Germans saw the Russians as an inferior race, and communists as something detestable, and treated Soviet POW:s and civilians terribly. Of course, the Russians retaliated with similar brutality.
On the Eastern front, all excesses cannot be blamed on the SS solely. The avarage German soldier had prejudice against Slavic peoples, and the large Jewish populations. The reason why the Wehrmacht acted with more ethics towards the Western Allies was because they were seen as civilized, something that they thought the Russians and Polish etc. were not.
The SS on the other hand, acted with similar brutality on the Western front as the Eastern.
@Francefighter It's important to clarify that I do not wish to make any "anti-German" statements, but those were different times, with a different mentality. The Nazis were far from alone to look down on Slavic peoples and Jews at that time.

While the German civillians knew something was happening to the Jews they claim that they didn't know that the concentration camps existed or that the genocide was taking place. Sure enough. The Ruskis won the war. Their general did not care about losses. The Finnish winter war alone cost them 200k young russion soldiers. It did not concern either the generals or the general public. Losses in the millions would have brought GB and USA to the bargaining table, and the war would have ended right there.

@cfodk After the war, Stalin had little need for any army, all of the captured Soviet soldiers (approx, 100k) were all to be treated as Nazi spies, they were interrogated (not tortured) and were constantly told to cough up a confession, of course they said nothing, as they were innocent. so what did stalin do? chuck them in a gulag (prison), just like in Black Ops. stalin was actually responsible for thousands of Soviet troop deaths because of what he did. Funny how in WWI and WWII America chose to standby and watch both wars until they were attacked. Just like with Russia they were staying out of it in WWII until Hitler launched an attack and invaded Russia a costly mistake. America had no problem supplying BOTH sides of BOTH wars until attacked

there's a difference between ww1 and ww2 for the russians they stayed out of ww2 until they were attacked because stalin had just killed every man of importance in the russian army so they needed time to reorganize. otherwise they would have stood by the french and brits from the beginning since hitler said he would give the german people more space to live wich could only mean invading russia because the other western countries were yust as packed with people.

tell me the number of russians killed to the number of brits killed and say that again, the sheer magnitude of the russian losses (which are directly related to the russian contribution to the war) are staggering. The Wehrmacht acted with Prussian soldier ethics in Africa and on the Western front (as did the Americans and British, contrary to what you claim). On the Eastern front however, things were more brutal. The Germans saw the Russians as an inferior race, and communists as something detestable, and treated Soviet POW:s and civilians terribly. Of course, the Russians retaliated with similar brutality.

On the Eastern front, all excesses cannot be blamed on the SS solely. The avarage German soldier had prejudice against Slavic peoples, and the large Jewish populations. The reason why the Wehrmacht acted with more ethics towards the Western Allies was because they were seen as civilized, something that they thought the Russians and Polish etc. were not.
The SS on the other hand, acted with similar brutality on the Western front as the Eastern.

Experience from other dictatorships around the world allows to answer this question with a "very likely not". I am damn sure that in your own country most people would have gone on with their lives as best for them as they could. This shows the experience also from occupied countries. Only few truely resisted.

@AmuZah Eeehhh, That's actually a very iffy subject. The Waffen-SS were a part of the Wehrmacht. The entire Wehrmacht had a loyalty to Hitler, and had also gone in search of Jews. At the time, the German military force was guilty of crimes against humanity, just as any army truly is. But I wouldn't glorify them in such a way.

While the German civillians knew something was happening to the Jews they claim that they didn't know that the concentration camps existed or that the genocide was taking place. You can believe them or not but due to the fact that their is little to no evidence of the German people's accounts of the holocaust we cannot say for certain that they are lying. In short no historian can say for certain that the German population knew about the holocaust.

i think you probly say ruski did most o the work coz russia lost like 5-8 million soldiers in ww2,more than any other nation,well reason why they lost that many is coz they are conscripts n are poorly trained when compared against a better equip n trained german army,german were making progress untill until there supply lines were overstretch n the yanks n brits are pushing from n.africa at the same time as the battle of stalingrad is beginning,so all nation did do work,not russia mate.
