  • It's ironic that the idea of a meme is in of itself is a meme.

  • 1:08 Don laughing in the background lol.

  • I declare myself to be a citizen of Mars, but a native of Jupiter, therefore, neither atheism nor religion applies to me. Are there any believers in Mars and Jupiter here who share my beliefs?

  • I wonder what instrument or units measure this faith that people are contrasting the amounts of. Anyone know where to get a Faith-o-meter? Sharper Image? X-10?

  • keeps stopping at 7.25, not sure why

  • Objective morality is the second biggest lie on earth.

  • If anyone is having problems with the first video, it worked for me when i turned it off HD.

  • This video doesn't work in my browser but the rest of them did. Is this part in a different format or something?

  • Strange. I can play this one, but the first one simply won't play for me, no matter how many times I refresh.

  • The end of the world was clearly predicted in the Bible. Everybody knew it was coming... in 1979. By another reading of the same words, the world was also predicted to end in the year 999 (end of the millenium) and 1999 (the end of the millenium) and many other dates. To say it's "predicted in the Bible" means squat when different interpretations of Scripture have predicted a truly awesome list of things that DID NOT HAPPEN. By pure random chance, it can't be wrong ALL the time, though!

  • Honestly, I think that whether you believe in Him or not, Jesus was right about us needing to love and care for our neighbors. There is far too much hatred in this world. Wars, conspiracies, riots, plagues, natural catastrophes, famine, and many other problems are increasing exponentially. Blame it all on global warming if you want, but these things WERE predicted in the Bible.

  • There will be natural disasters on earth since it was formed and will be until it is eaten by the Sun. It doesn't take a god to predict that some day in the future, there will be natural disasters.

Wars, conspiracies, and riots are caused by ignorance and perpetuated by either religion or something like it. Again, it doesn't take a god to figure out that lots of ignorant people running into lots of other ignorant people is going to have a bad outcome and happen pretty regularly.

  • Is anarchy a religion?

  • what

  • Anarchy is a system of government in which the people govern themselves with no higher authority. Personally I don't think it is workable long term due to human nature. Not sure what it has to do with your or my posts though.

  • You're right. Humans can barely govern themselves as it is. I was asking a man who talked to me putting anarchy in the same context as religion. Even atheists who hate religion and it's followers state that religion is a bondage, which it isn't. I am free with the knowledge of Christ. There is no point trying to convince me otherwise. Just as there is no point in me trying to convince atheists of my religion.

  • The Bible also commands you to burn and kill the people from villages where different faiths exist.

  • Lol. Why don't you go and read the Bible?

  • apparently someone hasn't read the bible.

It's a shame it wasn't written that before preaching someone should have to read the entire bible, but I guess they wanted people to preach.

  • Don't make me laugh, we don't live in ancient Israel anymore. I've heard the "Jews slaughtered thousands in the name of God" argument too many times to count.

  • @TirianCreed

Do you believe in objective morality?

  • @TirianCreed

    where?

  • there was always war, famine, and conspiracies, you dont have to be a fucking god or the son of one to know that these things will continue to be

  • Where in the bible? And how do you accertain that world problems are increasing exponentially? Shit happens. It always has.

  • When I said read read the Bible I wasn't talking to you, and if you want to know if world problems are increasing, google it, I'm too tired to mess with this right now.

  • People who make comments on vids are held accountable by others who comment on vids.

I know you were not talking to me. Why does that matter? Clearly if one is making assertions, they must know what they are basing it on. Else, why assert it?

What would I google to see that the worlds' problems are exp. increasing? That is a subjective statement and that was my point. Optimist or pessimist. I contend that there have always been problems in the world but no proof of exp. increase.

  • It does matter that I was talking to him because he was making a general statement about the Bible, that really only had to do with one part of the book. We don't believe in killing those who don't agree with us. Google riots, murder rates, wars, natural disasters, anything bad pretty much. If you don't believe that the world is getting worse you may continue to live in fantasy. Good day.

  • This is a public forum.

Google anything you want. The world has always had problems.

artgoat stated it pretty clear. People see what they want to see.

  • Google history.

  • "but these things WERE predicted in the Bible. "

Name ONE, SPECIFIC prediction from the Bible....

  • Stopped at 7.25, several times. Problem?

    Otherwise: nice job!

  • Morality is an aspect of Goodness . Goodness along with truth and beauty are Divine qualities. For an atheist to aspire to these is a departure from pure atheism .

  • That makes no sense....why is Goodness, truth and beauty divine? What makes this statement true? That divinity exists is just assumed without any justification, which is a fallacy. Your argument needs a lot of work before you can claim that an atheist is going against their nature to aspire to be moral, truthful, and possess beauty.

  • Morality is an aspect of society. Whether you are a chimp or a human, your morals are what keep you grounded in the society. If you try to live outside of a societies moral norms, the society will remove you.

We are social animals, no divinity required.

  • Good job Russel :) Important stuff.

  • I do not look at it like atheists convert but rather we're attempting to deconvert people from what has largely been brainwashed into their psyche.

Everyone was already an atheist at birth, we need not to convert what is already there.

  • This is outstanding--thank you!!

  • You're not preaching Atheism, you're preaching skepticism.

  • Skepticism does tend to lead one to atheism and, in fact, starts from an atheistic mindset.

So it would be hard to speak on one without mentioning the other.

  • wheres part 3?

  • I used to frequent the Raving Atheist forums, but just now found out that he's converted to Catholicism. I was shocked.

  • My only wish is... to transform friends of God into friends of man, believers into thinkers, devotees of prayer into devotees of work, candidates for the hereafter into students of the world, Christians who, by their own procession and admission, are "half animal, half angel" into persons, into whole persons. -- Ludwig Feuerbach (Lectures on the Essence of Religion)

  • Good Quotation! :-)

  • wow

  • Very difficult to hear, don't know if thats just me... but what I got, I liked.

  • Please sir, can I have some more?

  • I love discussing religion with people, however I struggle to get a straight answer from religious people about most things I ask them.

  • Um, you'll probably find that this is because they don't fully understand the premise of their viewpoint - if they REALLY understood how religion works they wouldn't be religious........... I've had MANY discussions with theists and all I hear from them is confusion.

  • i did not realise that dawkins originated the term "meme"

  • I've already seen this lecture. Very engaging and I strongly recommend it.

  • as well as being a good TV show host, Russell is a pretty good lecturer.

  • I could have swore that I saw this series of videos already.

  • slide deck date says 10/5/2008

  • @raby760 how do you like that ground zero mosque?
