Theres a quest chain leading up to this, the orcs and humans attack wrathgate and then sylvanas comes and roflpwns everyone, then the dragon queen burns everything and tells you to go chew the forsaken out for being to bad ass.

For Everyone who asks "where do i start this" ive done this on both a horde and ally toon, And the pre quest chain is pretty similiar - basicaly complete every quest in Venomspite (Horde) Wintergarde (Ally) until you unlock the quest to visit wyrmrest temple, once at wyrmrest complete all of Alexstrasza's quests and this will unlock the wrathgate quest, finish this and you will unlock the Undercity quest chain, an awesome quest with good rewards. well worth the effort of doing the pre chain!

Get a lvl 74 make quests in Dragonblight and find out you'reself. But Yes.. when done with the quest all returns to the normal sight, and you can be there again without the tons of demons trying to rip your heart out :P.

Horde isn't attacking horde... As you may know Varimathras says many times ''I'm always on the winning side..'' so Vari and apothecaries made a plan against EVERYONE, So as the new plague came ready they betrayed everyone. As a horde player you get some quests where you help the forsaken to make and test the plague.

And this all happends in retail server.. its part of the lore.

You have to do every quest in the Dragonblight, and you see the Wrath Gate cinema. After that, you get the quest from a dragon, in which you have to go to thrall, etc.

You need to do a quest chain in Dragonblight which ends with the Wrath Gate cutscene. Do all the quests in Dragonblight including the ones from the Wymrest Tempel. At Lv74, you will get that cutscene which leads directly onto the battle for undercity quest line.

Ogrimar and Undercity are essentialy instanced for people on that quest line.

no, what you're seeing as Undercity is just an Undercity created for players that are on this questline. Otherwise unaccessible if you dont have the quest. Which starts in Northerend, very lengthy questline, I think the recommended level for it is 74? I started it at 76.

The forsaken didn't betray anyone. Putress and Varithamas (I think that's his name) betrayed the forsaken, they both allied to attempt to overthrow Sylvanas and take over Undercity. Bolvar is not the king of Stormwind, he's simply one of the high nobles/generals. The battle for Undercity is a major fight to beat back Varithamas and make sure the city remains in control of Sylvanas.
