Actually the electric chair is still in use in the US in Alabama, Florida, South Carolina, Kentucky, Tennessee and Virginia if the person chooses it over lethal injection. Oklahoma, Arkansas and Illinois laws provide for its use should lethal injection ever be held to be unconstitutional. It has been banned in Nebraska though.

I went through SERE training in the 80' and while these methods are unpleasant they're not torture. We have been waterboarding our own soldiers for decades.

Actually, this is a very good depiction of some of the techniques available....there isnt exactly a manual that outlines waterboarding 101.. and if there is, its classified. Trust me....
It's a demo and rightly so; and yes it is tougher on prisoners but heck, they are only trying to destroy US lives or our country so lets get them a cup of coffee and make nice as suggest by the libs. It is a war-time action taken to extract valuable information regarding the safety of our country.
The waterboarding that reporters volunteer for is the kind where you can tell them to stop after a few seconds, and they'll stop. You don't have to be captured, imprisoned for days or months, subjected to other methods of torture etc. All you need is a news camera. So it's best not to compare that "version" of waterboarding to what interrogators have done to real prisoners.

Medical personnel were present. Waterboarding is effective precisely because even though you know your'e not drowning, your body's response is uncontrollable.
Generally, you'd compare the information with OTHER intelligence. At worst, the terrorist gives you some false leads. At best, he gives up information that saves innocent lives.
at worst it sends soldiers and diverts resources from chasing credible leads, at best it gives information that in all likelihood wont be acted on for months. and may or may not ever be acted on.

Actually the electric chair is still in use in the US in Alabama, Florida, South Carolina, Kentucky, Tennessee and Virginia if the person chooses it over lethal injection. Oklahoma, Arkansas and Illinois laws provide for its use should lethal injection ever be held to be unconstitutional. It has been banned in Nebraska though.

The waterboarding that reporters volunteer for is the kind where you can tell them to stop after a few seconds, and they'll stop. You don't have to be captured, imprisoned for days or months, subjected to other methods of torture etc. All you need is a news camera. So it's best not to compare that "version" of waterboarding to what interrogators have done to real prisoners.

what? it relies on fear?? something must have been wrong with this demonstration, cuz mancow, christopher hitchens, jesse ventura, and many others who have been waterboarded all say taht it is a horrible sensation that caused chest pain and nightmares for many of them. if waterboarding is done correctly, it is definitly torture, and does not simply simulate drowning, it is drowning

That was a mildy fair demostration, it's just Fox's wording that irritates me. It is a technique that works on fear yes? He was in friendly surroundings right? Except during the actual waterboarding, during which he was scared. Of course he recovered from fear quickly because he had no reason to be scared. If convicts were waterboarded then released to their family and friends straight afterwards then I'm sure they would recover even faster than him, but they aren't. xXx

Generally, you'd compare the information with OTHER intelligence. At worst, the terrorist gives you some false leads. At best, he gives up information that saves innocent lives.

at worst it sends soldiers and diverts resources from chasing credible leads, at best it gives information that in all likelihood wont be acted on for months. and may or may not ever be acted on.
