@GravityPowerful reflecting the light wouldn't reflect most of the heat... a better way would be ceramic tiling (like on the bottom of the space shuttle) with a small coolant system... basically making it just take way longer to killburn the missile... giving other missiles more time to get on target... or another way is having way way way more missiles with few parts that cannot resist heat, and only load like a few with an actual warhead (warheads cannot resist heat as good)

The problem is probably how does the shield overcome the high heat generated at the peak of the missile.

@GravityPowerful reflecting the light wouldn't reflect most of the heat... a better way would be ceramic tiling (like on the bottom of the space shuttle) with a small coolant system... basically making it just take way longer to killburn the missile... giving other missiles more time to get on target... or another way is having way way way more missiles with few parts that cannot resist heat, and only load like a few with an actual warhead (warheads cannot resist heat as good)

I'm currently studying signal processing and feedback control systems, and I know for a fact that you could for example, reflect infrared light, so you should be able to reflect any type of light. The problem is probably how does the shield overcome the high heat generated at the peak of the missile.

@GravityPowerful The mirrors, or even a super reflective surface, have to withstand the shock and vibration of launch. That will add considerable weight and greatly reduce its range or even its ability to boost the warhead into low earth orbit.

@ARMENH91 First off they're going to be operating in areas where a TBM or ICBM will most likely be launched from. And it's not that difficult to tell the difference between a missile and a plane, seeing how commercial planes do not fly faster than 400 mph and fly vertically beyond 40,000 ft.

People complain too much about defense expenditures, but in reality it helps advance technology as a whole. If we never had WW2, who knows, it may have been a much longer time before we discovered the secrets of nuclear energy. How else do we have so much cutting-edge laser technology for medical purposes, etc? Now there are talks of space warfare. While it may sound unsettling, it will likely help advance new propulsion systems, alternate forms of energy, etc. It's not as bad as it sounds.
