this question was in the all star game and they asked are you supposed to look at the rim or the path that the ball is suppose to follow? after watching the perfect arc ive been trying to make sure the apex is in the middle of the arc 3 feet above the rim
Dear Coach, Since that im on Grade 8 and i play Center on my Jr High League, and now going to high school. I realized that I am now too short for being a Center. Now I want to learn how to play Point Guard or Shooting Guard or Small forward. I have bad Ball handling skills and shooting in the 3pt and Mid- ranged spots. How can I improve them?
Ps. The Dribbling 101 helped a little bit on my ball handling..
@TheExtrmeboy We have a lot of videos on our channel that you need to get into as they will detail what you need tobe able do as a perimeter player. It would take more room than we have here to detail what you need to do. Get started today and be ready for the next season.
Are you guys that dumb... watch any video of the greatest shooters of all time... they are SQUARED UP! If you shoot with proper form, including squaring up, your arm does not come across your body if you're smart enough to keep your shooting elbow "IN." Plus, late in games when your legs are getting tired and you want to have both legs under you, hence squared up, b/c distance comes from your legs. Just saying, watch videos of the greats and you guys are WRONG!!!
@gueitchol123 No one ever really knows that they will make the shot in advance. You do, after a while, begin to get a sense that the ball will go in because of how the ball feels at the time of your release.
ok ive wanted to be on a baketball team for a while but i never could make it its like im ballsick i can play with my ball but not the ball at my school and when somebody comes towards i freeze i trie d 4 the team last year if you could help me id appreciate
@lbolton23 It surely sunds like you need to develop your skills and with that you will develop some confidence in yourself. This is pretty common to new players. Let's get busy working on your game and then take it to the court. It just takes some effort and a little time to overcome.
Coach, how can i set my feet up before the ball is passed to me? it takes me some time to set my feet correctly or my shot comes out awkward. sometimes, i have to take a dribble because i catch it off balance. this takes time away, and i want to be able to catch and shoot quickly on the wing. how can i ready my feet before the pass? (im a lefty by the way)
Hey coach I am having a little bit of trouble with my play style. i am 5'9 so im not that tall. Considering that i should get used to playing the guard positions right? My problem is i am playing in a tournament in the wich i am not considered a guard because of my muscle. i am pretty strong and athletic so they want me to be a forward/center what should I do ?
Hey coach, I shoot with my feet somewhat staggered, but I am wondering if i still need to point my toes at the basket for both my jump shot and free throw.
when i stagger my stance i feel like i'm pushing off my right foot more, which is behind my left foot (i'm a left-handed shooter). my friend had therefore told me to shoot squared-up in order to push off both legs equally to get more power but it looks like i shouldn't do that. what can I do to ensure that I'm pushing equally off both legs through my hips even when my stance is staggered? thanks!
@meamdantheman Like almost all elements of shooting the feet arfe important and we feel they need to be staggered for best balance and stability. Squaring the feet is not the answer here. The answer is to spend time with our "Form Shooting Drill" to work on the use of both feet. It should be pretty easy to fix.
@MrBroso123 Go to our Channel page and buy the Vertical Jump Handbook. It will help you grow your vertical. It is a three month program and we have many responses to growth made by payers all over the world. The best was 10" in three months. You will need to work really hard and skipping workouts.
@cashey7 Check out our videos for creation of space for your shot. Usually the defenders can contest your shot only when they are close. Work on "SEPARATION."
@bletma281 Well, what can we say to that? He has his own ideas and unfortunately they are not popular with those who really know how to shoot the ball. Sorry for you, but keep working so you don't get in bad with your coach.
@ShotScience he is rite though about 1 thing my feet are too staggered :) Unfortuantely he believes that i should hop into my shot and not use dip rhythm because it is a travel
@bletma281 Well, "How demanding is the coach?" Will he penalize you if you use the one-two footwork instead of hopping into the shot? We often advise our players to let the coach know that the hop does not feel right and you would like to continue with the One-Two approach. He may say fine.
Hey sports science thanks for the tips this really helped and htis improved my shooting but I still get pressured, I read your comment for another guy about playing the game but its not working for me I sometimes doubt my skill as my teammates get on my back about my ability and its what bringing me down, any advice on proving them wrong?
@ThePivotRookie It's Shot Science, not Sports Science. O.K., your team mates are what we consider "POOR TEAM MATES!" Good team mates support each other even when a player makes a poor decision or play. For you, just keep playing as hard as you can. thanks i made 5-5 three point percentage at our gym class i hope i'm calm enough to do it at our school intrams pressure really affects my shot. do you have advice to stay calm during the game coach?
@astigLemuel Usually we settle down after a couple of minutes of play. Your anxiety is just a fear that you may fail in the eyes of your team mates. Let go of all of that and "Play the Game." They all make mistakes as well. Confidence in your skills is very important to your not having anxieties.
i have kept my foot the same way you told in this video while shooting the ball and i have some problem with my accuracy while shooting the ball. Can you please tell me what would be the reason behind that?
@grgkarma1990 Well we would guess that it IS NOT due to your feet. Make us a video of your see how you shoot the ball and we can probably help you, otherwise we have no idea.
@bletma281 It can affect your shot or we would not teach the stagger. Squaring up for your shot usually can have you shooting the ball off your shoulder rather than from in front of your shooting eye, therefore less accurate.
@ShotScience Sorry coach but you misunderstood my question. i mean if my exaggerated staggered feet compared to the regular stagger can affect my shot. In other words, will exagerating the stagger make it better or worse for my shot. ( SOrry if im getting annoying)
@CantBeTchd We recommend that you land pretty much on the same "FOOTPRINTS" as you left from the floor. Do not lean into the shots. You want to be very stable.
@CantBeTchd Depends on the shot, if it is just a normal jumper then you should land right where you jumped from or a LITTLE in front of it. If you are closer to the hoop or trying to do a quick post jumper then you can lean into the defender to create contact and so they can't jump up to block it.
@101supermike This is a common thing for coaches to teach young players, HOWEVER, when you feet are squared up so are your shoulders. We definitely believe that a stagger of the feet is best and this is supported by coaches who are well founded on shooting. We suggest that you use our video "Get Perfect Shooting Form!! Form Shooting" to help you make the change. This is a drill that is used to work on all elements of your shooting, including placement of your feet. It may take a few weeks.
@bletma281 You make sure that you take it one lesson at a time. It may take you a while, but this is how everyone develops their game. Let us know how it is going for you.
@astigLemuel Developing muscle memory is simply gained from repetitive practice. You just have to do it over and over and over again. When it comes to form, you have to actively change the problems with your shot and get on the repetitious practice until it is second nature. Make sure you check out our "Form Shooting Drill" video.
@TheOfficialNgS definitely the lower body. Watch our video called "Make 3 Pointers, Get Your Legs Into it!" That should give you all the answers on that question ;-)
Coach I must say nice videos but what if i dont have enuff streghth 2 shoot the ball how do i increase that and since my right hand is my dominant hand i aim with my left hand and i put my right hand under the ball but make sure that the 2 thumbs are almost touching right? please respond and thank you
@TheOfficialNgS Well it seems that you need to take a look at our Shooting Videos. Check out our Playlist on shooting in our YT library and these videos will answer all of your questions. We are sure that you have sufficient strength to shoot the ball if you learn how to use your leg power. See video "Make the 3-Pointers!! Get your Legs Into it!!" There is not enough room or time here to help you help, but these videos will get you on your way.
@sk8t3rkyd Well, not real sure what you are asking here, but use your size and jump shoot when you can. The under-hand layup is a little harder, but only because we are not used to executing it. When you get it down you will really like the result.
I know my question doesn't exactly have to do with this video but how high should I be jumping when I shoot? should I just jump just a little or do like a full vertical?
@TheJBrad69 We firmly believe that your jump for the shot should be "COMFORTABLE" for you. If we try to get more elevation we usually tense up, squeeze the ball and accuracy goes out the window. Be comfortable and get your shot off be creating sufficient space before the shot rather than trying to jump higher than we really can.
Hey Coach, i shoot 3's i make them but at other times the ball hits the the back of the rim and doesnt go in im scared it migh turn to a habit i practice alot and it seems the more i try avoid doing it, i do it!:( what should i practice doing?
@RiCkY123477 It is possible that you need more arc on your shot. Go to our video on the shooting arc to find out why it is important and how to do it.
Hey couch, im starting to develop a bad habit of catapulting the ball and this making my shot slower. (By catapulting I mean where the wrist is dropping and my arm works like a lever to catapult the ball). With that said can you please give me some tips in correcting such a habit. Thanks, and great work with all the videos.
@productionshw Common problem! Okay, from your set point make sure that you "ELEVATE" your arm instead of pushing it outward. The elbow should finish on the shot higher than your eye level. This should help your problem.
@ShotScience I was also wondering does loosening the wrist contribute to this problem as well? You see, if you don't loosen your wrist early there is simply no way to catapult the ball. So with that in place should i attempt to make my wrist flex slower and adjust it to take place until my elbow is nearly fully extended? Thanks
@ZomegYdnas When you turn you shooting shoulder and foot into the basket you are then able to locate the ball in front of your shooting eye and better align the eye-ball-target without it being uncomfortable. It also allows for much better stability. That old, old adage of squaring up on your shot is poor advice, but you have to do what you have to do!
@ZomegYdnas Well, expert village is probably the poorest example of proper shooting anywhere on the net! However, if you find them credible, then you should follow their lessons.
@Lordofsalaza Most every muscle in your body is involved with your shooting. Find a conditioning program or our Vertical Leap Program. It will improve your explosiveness and your vertical leap.
@123KBecky I think you mean "bend your Knees" not your feet. Bend themn as much as "you need to" to get the power for that 15' er! Your legs are the key source of your power.
does having your feet widely spread help that much? i dont think im that good at j's but i was told that if your footwork is correct having your shooting elbow directly above your knee helps your shot especially when u r tiered
@CantBeTchd Well the spread on your feet should be shoulder width or right under your arm pits. Don't tie the elbow to your knees. Please check out our vide4o on "Set Point" for what we think is good location.
I dont know Coach, there are people saying that having the both feet showing to the basket it better, because your shot will go straight to the basket then...
@SpeedyX51 Well, we do not believe this and we feel that the prevailing ideas on shooting by professional coaches is to have the feet staggered. It gives you more stability and allows you to get the ball in front of your shooting eye instead of in front of your shooting shoulder. You will need to make your own evaluation on what you want to believe.
@TakeItToTheHoop23 Well, if you want to master shooting we recommend that you go to our shooting videos for the best elements of shooting. Ray Allen uses the same elements except he has a very flat shot. With the flat shot, sometimes he is killer and sometimes he can't hit'em at all.
Hey coach, my ball side foot is in front, and the other trailing, I get that, but how do I do that in the flow of a game, I cant keep looking down at my feet, and should my feet be the same anywhere when Im about to shoot, or they should change but with the same stagger theory?
@classichiphop124 You get this by working on it in your shooting drills. When you focus on this in these drills it becomes more of a reaction to getting ready to shoot. Drill, Drill and then Drill some more. When facing the backboard it doesn't matter which foot is the Stop foot. From the wings the stop foot needs to be the one nearest the basket.
@ShotScience I experimented with that; and everything was dropping from the wings, but it was funny how when I was facing the backboard from three, i was off. I was doing the exact same from when I was shooting from the wings though. I wasn't sure why...
@ShotScience When I was shooting threes, facing the backboard, I was missing; but I was stroking from the wings. I wasn't sure why I was missing facing the backboard. And I'd like to thank you very much for your help. Point guards need a reliable jumper, and I need to prepare for next year. Just want to be there...
@classichiphop124 Well, it all comes together when we work our "Buns off." Remember, everyone has a favorite spot to shoot from and others that don't feel right. Just part of the game. You can improve this spot of you work on it.
I've had trouble making short/mid range shots over taller defenders. I make sure I jump enough to release the ball over the defenders so I won't get blocked, but I then put too much power behind the ball, as if my body wants to shoot a 3-pointer from 8-14 feet away from the basket, which results in me overshooting all the time. What mechanics do I have to change to obtain a good arc and get the shots to fall?
@NBrown3SC Well okay Nate! We should never worry about how high we jump on a Jump Shot. The thing is to be comfortable with your jump. Take care of creating space before you look to shoot the jumper releasing it at the top of your jump. The mechanics are the thing that we need to concentrate on not getting higher. Remember, create the space then the shot will be easier to get off.
I just wanted to commend shot science! Iv'e only been doing the drills and adjusting my shot mechanics for a week, and already I feel like a cant miss! This is great fundamental mechanics. I would suggest this sight to little league novices as well as competitive experienced adults! Great job sport science!
@bleazy206 Thanks so much for your very nice comments. We really appreciate your interest and hope you stay tuned as we will be putting up more videos. Thanks so much for your support and hopefully you will "Spread the Word."
1.My problem is if i would shot the basketball i think at every shot that the whole shot is to slowly because im a quick player and haveN't a quick shot.
2. if my defender is very close to me i cant shooting the ball like i have much more room.
3. if i do the double conntact stop and want to shot quick i probably have no strenght
@MyChrissmoove For us to help you with these issue we would need to see you shooting. Try to get us a good quality video and we will analyze your shot and hopefully help you. We will be waiting for it!
@theLALfan24 The way you describe your feet is fine. The weight should be on the balls of your feet. Your legs should be located directly under your arm pits. The width of your feet was described to me recently as needing to be 6 boards wide between your feet.. The width of the wood flooring is typically 21/4" wide.
@mless12 It is a good idea to shoot every kind of shot that you feel is important to you as a player every day. How many depends on how often you might shoot this shot or whether it needs more development. Try to shoot 100-200 jumpers a day if possible. Try to make 2/3 of them at "Game Speed."
@CantBeTchd If you are 3-4 feet above the rim at the high point of the arc you will be right in there at 45=55 degrees! Sometime the arc is higher like Dirk Nowitski, and thats okay if that is your normal arc like his.
i shoot my free throws with my feet squared and i hit 9 of 10 so should i keep it and sometimes when i shoot threes i twist my wrist and get an odd spin on the ball how can stop this?
@AARguitarman; Don't worry about making a change on your free throws if you are doing well there. If you are getting sideways rotation on your shot it is probably your Assist Hand. This off hand often use the thumb to help shoot the ball and it imparts a sideways rotation on the ball. So look to that off hand (Assist Hand) as the culprit.
most of the nba players use staggered stance but steve nash shoots free throws with his feet squared still he is the best free throw shooter in the game
i also shoot free throws with my feet squared and i am able to knock 7 out of 10 on average
@cjslipknot1234: If you are successful and satisfied with your stroke, why change it. If you were to experience a long term breakdown of your shooting, then maybe consider a change.
@theLALfan24: We think you are mistaken on the heel! Please review this video again for location of your feet. We believe completely that we do not want to jump forward on your shot. NBA players do many thing that their athleticism allow them to do. We are not that lucky to be able to do what they do and they also execute things that are not typically accepted as general practice.
@oxoxleeoxox: This is a lunge and usually will result in the shot being too long. Best advice for you is to learn to pretty much land in the same footprints that you left when you jumped. To get the added power you are looking for learn to use your leg thrust.
Well, without defense my shoot is good but IN GAME situations i miss almost all shoots, easy, medium and hard.Whats the problem,my foot ?I can't see my error...
@WolfNba: You are probably suffering from a lack of "CONFIDENCE." When we finally develop confidence it becomes much easier to in game situations. It takes time, but you will get there.
@WolfNba: Well, to get confidence, but probably more to "GROOVE THEIR STROKE." Get that stroke feeling good and have it effective before you play. Grooooove it!!!!!!
@shoesrme11: That would be fun. We are in California and were are you? In any case, get to work and will be there to help you. Videos are the best way for us to help you too. Good luck.
Thank you !!!!!!.. I watch your videos everyday..... It helps alot....im 25 and a female trying to get back in shape..becuz nu dream is to go overseas to play basketball
@shoesrme11: We are very pleased that you watch our videos. Feel free to contact us anytime in your quest to play basketball overseas. Please keep us up to speed on your development. It sounds exciting.
@shoesrme11: Well, we often develop some of these little tics when we play BB. This is something that you need to go back and address and make a change right away or it will become so ingrained that it will be hard to change. We suggest you us our "Form Shooting Drill" video and focus on the elements that you feel you need to change. It may take a week or so of hard work, but you can change it. The form shooting drill is one where you shoot very short distances and focus on your mechanics.
these videos are really amazing great job! im trying to be able to start on varsity next year so im trying to soak up all the info i can. one thing ive been having trouble with is coming off a dribble or a screen and shooting i can set my feet up right and i end up fading or moving sideways do you know anyways how to correct that?
@Chosen22One: Go back and review our videos "Footwork for Shooting" and "Where do I put My Feet." This is the key. It is just a matter of understanding the footwork and then working on it until you have it. Keep us up to speed on your development.

bletma281 3 months ago
@bletma281 It can affect your shot or we would not teach the stagger. Squaring up for your shot usually can have you shooting the ball off your shoulder rather than from in front of your shooting eye, therefore less accurate.
ShotScience 3 months ago
@ShotScience Sorry coach but you misunderstood my question. i mean if my exaggerated staggered feet compared to the regular stagger can affect my shot. In other words, will exagerating the stagger make it better or worse for my shot. ( SOrry if im getting annoying)
bletma281 3 months ago
@bletma281 No way are you annoying. Exaggerating the stagger is not a good idea.
ShotScience 3 months ago
when u shoot should u land where u jumped or in front of where u jump? should u lean into the shot??
CantBeTchd 3 months ago
@CantBeTchd We recommend that you land pretty much on the same "FOOTPRINTS" as you left from the floor. Do not lean into the shots. You want to be very stable.
ShotScience 3 months ago
@CantBeTchd Depends on the shot, if it is just a normal jumper then you should land right where you jumped from or a LITTLE in front of it. If you are closer to the hoop or trying to do a quick post jumper then you can lean into the defender to create contact and so they can't jump up to block it.

Coach, one of myvschool coaches told me to square up my feet and now i made a habbit on it what should i do thanks
101supermike 3 months ago
@101supermike This is a common thing for coaches to teach young players, HOWEVER, when you feet are squared up so are your shoulders. We definitely believe that a stagger of the feet is best and this is supported by coaches who are well founded on shooting. We suggest that you use our video "Get Perfect Shooting Form!! Form Shooting" to help you make the change. This is a drill that is used to work on all elements of your shooting, including placement of your feet. It may take a few weeks.

how can i change my muscle memory? i used to have a good shooting form but during a game i tend to use both hands i'm 13 yrs old, height ; 5'5
astigLemuel 4 months ago
@astigLemuel Developing muscle memory is simply gained from repetitive practice. You just have to do it over and over and over again. When it comes to form, you have to actively change the problems with your shot and get on the repetitious practice until it is second nature. Make sure you check out our "Form Shooting Drill" video.
ShotScience 4 months ago
so does most of the power comes from legs(lower body) or arms(upper body)??
TheOfficialNgS 4 months ago
@TheOfficialNgS definitely the lower body. Watch our video called "Make 3 Pointers, Get Your Legs Into it!" That should give you all the answers on that question ;-)
ShotScience 4 months ago
Coach I must say nice videos but what if i dont have enuff streghth 2 shoot the ball how do i increase that and since my right hand is my dominant hand i aim with my left hand and i put my right hand under the ball but make sure that the 2 thumbs are almost touching right? please respond and thank you
TheOfficialNgS 4 months ago
@TheOfficialNgS Well it seems that you need to take a look at our Shooting Videos. Check out our Playlist on shooting in our YT library and these videos will answer all of your questions. We are sure that you have sufficient strength to shoot the ball if you learn how to use your leg power. See video "Make the 3-Pointers!! Get your Legs Into it!!" There is not enough room or time here to help you help, but these videos will get you on your way.
ShotScience 4 months ago
@sk8t3rkyd Well, not real sure what you are asking here, but use your size and jump shoot when you can. The under-hand layup is a little harder, but only because we are not used to executing it. When you get it down you will really like the result.
ShotScience 4 months ago
I know my question doesn't exactly have to do with this video but how high should I be jumping when I shoot? should I just jump just a little or do like a full vertical?
TheJBrad69 4 months ago
@TheJBrad69 We firmly believe that your jump for the shot should be "COMFORTABLE" for you. If we try to get more elevation we usually tense up, squeeze the ball and accuracy goes out the window. Be comfortable and get your shot off be creating sufficient space before the shot rather than trying to jump higher than we really can.
ShotScience 4 months ago
Hey Coach, i shoot 3's i make them but at other times the ball hits the the back of the rim and doesnt go in im scared it migh turn to a habit i practice alot and it seems the more i try avoid doing it, i do it!:( what should i practice doing?
RiCkY123477 4 months ago
@RiCkY123477 It is possible that you need more arc on your shot. Go to our video on the shooting arc to find out why it is important and how to do it.
ShotScience 4 months ago
Hey couch, im starting to develop a bad habit of catapulting the ball and this making my shot slower. (By catapulting I mean where the wrist is dropping and my arm works like a lever to catapult the ball). With that said can you please give me some tips in correcting such a habit. Thanks, and great work with all the videos.
productionshw 4 months ago
@productionshw Common problem! Okay, from your set point make sure that you "ELEVATE" your arm instead of pushing it outward. The elbow should finish on the shot higher than your eye level. This should help your problem.
ShotScience 4 months ago
@ShotScience I was also wondering does loosening the wrist contribute to this problem as well? You see, if you don't loosen your wrist early there is simply no way to catapult the ball. So with that in place should i attempt to make my wrist flex slower and adjust it to take place until my elbow is nearly fully extended? Thanks
productionshw 4 months ago
@ZomegYdnas When you turn you shooting shoulder and foot into the basket you are then able to locate the ball in front of your shooting eye and better align the eye-ball-target without it being uncomfortable. It also allows for much better stability. That old, old adage of squaring up on your shot is poor advice, but you have to do what you have to do!
ShotScience 4 months ago
@ZomegYdnas Well, expert village is probably the poorest example of proper shooting anywhere on the net! However, if you find them credible, then you should follow their lessons.

so your saying we can put our shooting foot in front of us as much as we want
bletma281 5 months ago
@bletma281 No! That is not what we are saying. What we are saying is to stagger your feet for better balance and a better alignment for your shot.
ShotScience 5 months ago
@ShotScience you misunderstood my question :) i mean if we can put our shootng foot as much as we want to balance ourselves
bletma281 5 months ago
@bletma281 If you watch the video again you'll see how much we suggest staggering your feet. You want it to be more like a heal to instep relation.

what are the muscles involved in shooting and how can i improve em?

@CantBeTchd The shooting foot is forward and the non-shooting foot is staggered back.
ShotScience 5 months ago
Hey coach how should we bend our feet when shooting a free throw
123KBecky 5 months ago
@123KBecky I think you mean "bend your Knees" not your feet. Bend themn as much as "you need to" to get the power for that 15' er! Your legs are the key source of your power.

ShotScience 5 months ago
does having your feet widely spread help that much? i dont think im that good at j's but i was told that if your footwork is correct having your shooting elbow directly above your knee helps your shot especially when u r tiered
CantBeTchd 5 months ago
@CantBeTchd Well the spread on your feet should be shoulder width or right under your arm pits. Don't tie the elbow to your knees. Please check out our vide4o on "Set Point" for what we think is good location.

TheMikeros 6 months ago
@TheMikeros It may take a while before you see a real effect on your accuracy, but it should begin to help.
ShotScience 6 months ago
I dont know Coach, there are people saying that having the both feet showing to the basket it better, because your shot will go straight to the basket then...
SpeedyX51 7 months ago in playlist How to Shoot a Basketball (Shooting Tips and Mechanics)
ShotScience 7 months ago
Coach- I was wondering how form should be like when you shoot. How do you master the "ray allen" shot? Thank you- Jackson
TakeItToTheHoop23 7 months ago
@TakeItToTheHoop23 Well, if you want to master shooting we recommend that you go to our shooting videos for the best elements of shooting. Ray Allen uses the same elements except he has a very flat shot. With the flat shot, sometimes he is killer and sometimes he can't hit'em at all.
ShotScience 7 months ago
@ShotScience But nobody can hit them all! lol He has the best form in NBA history.

@classichiphop124 We are located in Northern California.
ShotScience 7 months ago
Hey coach, my ball side foot is in front, and the other trailing, I get that, but how do I do that in the flow of a game, I cant keep looking down at my feet, and should my feet be the same anywhere when Im about to shoot, or they should change but with the same stagger theory?
classichiphop124 7 months ago
@classichiphop124 You get this by working on it in your shooting drills. When you focus on this in these drills it becomes more of a reaction to getting ready to shoot. Drill, Drill and then Drill some more. When facing the backboard it doesn't matter which foot is the Stop foot. From the wings the stop foot needs to be the one nearest the basket.
ShotScience 7 months ago
@ShotScience I experimented with that; and everything was dropping from the wings, but it was funny how when I was facing the backboard from three, i was off. I was doing the exact same from when I was shooting from the wings though. I wasn't sure why...
classichiphop124 7 months ago
@classichiphop124 We are not exactly sure what your getting at. Please clarify fo us.
ShotScience 7 months ago
@ShotScience When I was shooting threes, facing the backboard, I was missing; but I was stroking from the wings. I wasn't sure why I was missing facing the backboard. And I'd like to thank you very much for your help. Point guards need a reliable jumper, and I need to prepare for next year. Just want to be there...
classichiphop124 7 months ago
@classichiphop124 Well, it all comes together when we work our "Buns off." Remember, everyone has a favorite spot to shoot from and others that don't feel right. Just part of the game. You can improve this spot of you work on it.
ShotScience 7 months ago
ShotScience,
I've had trouble making short/mid range shots over taller defenders.
Thanks,
Nate
NBrown3SC 7 months ago
@NBrown3SC Well okay Nate! We should never worry about how high we jump on a Jump Shot. The thing is to be comfortable with your jump. Take care of creating space before you look to shoot the jumper releasing it at the top of your jump. The mechanics are the thing that we need to concentrate on not getting higher. Remember, create the space then the shot will be easier to get off.
ShotScience 7 months ago
I just wanted to commend shot science! Iv'e only been doing the drills and adjusting my shot mechanics for a week, and already I feel like a cant miss! This is great fundamental mechanics. I would suggest this sight to little league novices as well as competitive experienced adults! Great job sport science!

1.my feet point outward but when i shoot my shooting foot points to the rim but my other foot doesn't. is it OK for that to happen?
2. when you shoot is your weight supposed to be on the balls of your feet?
3. does it matter if your legs close together when you jump for your shot?
theLALfan24 7 months ago
@theLALfan24 The way you describe your feet is fine. The weight should be on the balls of your feet. Your legs should be located directly under your arm pits. The width of your feet was described to me recently as needing to be 6 boards wide between your feet.. The width of the wood flooring is typically 21/4" wide.

@mless12 It is a good idea to shoot every kind of shot that you feel is important to you as a player every day. How many depends on how often you might shoot this shot or whether it needs more development. Try to shoot 100-200 jumpers a day if possible. Try to make 2/3 of them at "Game Speed."

about the arc should it always go 3-4 feet above the rim or should it always be 45-55 degrees
CantBeTchd 8 months ago
@CantBeTchd If you are 3-4 feet above the rim at the high point of the arc you will be right in there at 45=55 degrees! Sometime the arc is higher like Dirk Nowitski, and thats okay if that is your normal arc like his.
ShotScience 8 months ago
does the height of the rim affect the shot about 9.5 ft compared to 10 ft

i shoot my free throws with my feet squared and i hit 9 of 10 so should i keep it and sometimes when i shoot threes i twist my wrist and get an odd spin on the ball how can stop this?
AARguitarman 8 months ago
@AARguitarman; Don't worry about making a change on your free throws if you are doing well there. If you are getting sideways rotation on your shot it is probably your Assist Hand. This off hand often use the thumb to help shoot the ball and it imparts a sideways rotation on the ball. So look to that off hand (Assist Hand) as the culprit.
ShotScience 8 months ago
@ShotScience thanx for ur help ive realized it is my assist hand thats causing some problems and ive been working on it.
AARguitarman 6 months ago
most of the nba players use staggered stance but steve nash shoots free throws with his feet squared still he is the best free throw shooter in the game
i also shoot free throws with my feet squared and i am able to knock 7 out of 10 on average
should i change my stance?
cjslipknot1234 8 months ago
@cjslipknot1234: If you are successful and satisfied with your stroke, why change it. If you were to experience a long term breakdown of your shooting, then maybe consider a change.
ShotScience 8 months ago
in the video Tom said heel of your foot. I wanna be accurate so can that be the very tip of the back of your foot?
MrRetla1 said is it OK to jump forward and i was wondering why do NBA players do that.Is it because of their size?
theLALfan24 8 months ago
@theLALfan24: We think you are mistaken on the heel! Please review this video again for location of your feet. We believe completely that we do not want to jump forward on your shot. NBA players do many thing that their athleticism allow them to do. We are not that lucky to be able to do what they do and they also execute things that are not typically accepted as general practice.

is it ok to move forward when doing a jump shot like feet behind 3 point line do a jump shot and your feet land a foot closer to the rim
oxoxleeoxox 9 months ago
@oxoxleeoxox: This is a lunge and usually will result in the shot being too long. Best advice for you is to learn to pretty much land in the same footprints that you left when you jumped. To get the added power you are looking for learn to use your leg thrust.
