Great film. Is the ATTEN ADS1102CA 100Mhz Digital Oscilloscope DSO ADS1102 the same as the Rigol just under different branding? It's for sale $470 on ebay and I need a 100meg unit. Would consider the 1052E but cannot afford to get caught out. Any response would be appreciated.

Got my Deal Extreme model (two months after ordering). It's a 2.04 SP1, so I assume I have an upgradable one!

@crippled82 I just received mine - looks like they're shipping with 2.05 firmware now, which I don't think anybody has hacked yet. Still, let's hope it's just be a matter of time. Keep an eye on the EEVblog forum.

Perhaps it has an undiscovered JTAG or USB port on the CPU to access the flash memory.

@crippled82 Ordered from a test equipment company in UK. This was a brand new shipment of scopes that had just arrived, so you might be lucky and get a 2.04 if yours comes from existing stock in your country. I could have ordered direct from China and saved time and money, but I wanted a 3 year UK guarantee.

Dave corect me if i am wrong if rise time on that scope u mesure is 3.4 ns thats means u see signal with 230mhz

@ciciolinacyc the industry standard formulae for scopes is 0.35 divided by rise time. This will result in precisely 100mhz for this model.

Well since the model and serial # change is written in a eeprom or flash; if you make the change in the earlier firmware there is probably no way to for rigol to fix this hack. Once the eeprom values are changed to the upgraded model number there is no way for the scope firmware to know it is labeled as 50Mhz version and so it should stick for all future versions of the firmware.

I also hope flights in Europe will go to regular schedule and customs will manage to distribute all delayed packages as soon as possible and my scope from DealExtreme will reach Lithunia :)

This is a VERY cheap chinese scope.

A high quality one though. (Have a look at the episode, were Dave disassembles the housing.)

If you want a cheaper one, I´d rather recommend buying a used Tek....
