The nuclear blasts from the incoming warheads take place in space, ABOVE the Earth's atmosphere and most of the nuclear radiations will dissipate into space. Anyway, this system is not made to destroy Russian nuclear ICBMs, they are made to destroy more primitive ballistic missiles, like the Iranians or the N Koreans have which r not armed with nuclear warheads.

Just to be clear. The THAAD is a different system than that used by the Aegis. The Aegis is SM3 based, and is long range. THAAD is medium range and is considered theatre defense. Patriot PAC3 is short range, and it is "oh shit, I hope we can kill it before it blows up." Essentially the last line of defense.

The US can simply salvo interceptors if there are more target elements in a raid for one Multiple KV interceptor.

The reason for the MKV is to overcome any diificulty in discrimination vs. countermeasures in a target complex.

Those countermeasures are lost if the Reentry Vehicle manuevers.

Manuever and it becomes completely discriminable from the countermeasures.
