the reason foreign oil went overseas in the first place is cause we had none left. the reason we need to start weening is cause of the peak oil concept. if the oil production stopped tomorrow we'd see whats about to happen in Nigeria when they lift oil subsidies.
Don't be fooled by this Capitalist, his only goal is to make money and he would privatize air and sell it back to you if he can.
He is already trying and succeeding in privatizing water and selling it back to Texas. He will succeed in his plan because he is patient and hammers at what blocks him until he cracks through.
He is the worst of the worst of greedy industrialist and only thinks about T. Boone Pickens and everyone else on the planet is born just to serve his needs.
@kpreston69 Socialists took over when the Dems took over Congress in 2006. I long for the day when the capitalists have it back. Why don't you go South and enjoy Cuba- but don't take my nation with you !
@kpreston69 public ownership isn't illegal. but if you have a co op that's successful it's just gonna get bought out. you need the government to get involved. and the examples of communism aren't so good. capitalism is flexible and can conform to our needs. but we need to participate, poke holes in it, in order to protect ourselves from it.
Most of America's oil is imported from Canada. To whitewash Canadian oil with Arabian oil as 'foreign countries' as moral equivalents is in itself morally corrupt.
@olalor most of the US oil is imported from Non-opec countries, of which CANADA is the leader. And a lie is willful deception. I deceived you of nothing, and nothing in my post indicated willful deception. so what the hell are u talking about?
Chesapeake has delayed or refused to complete other purchases in that region as well, the lawsuit states.
“Chesapeake has convinced numerous leasehold owners in Michigan to sell leases to Chesapeake instead of other prospective purchasers, and then manufactured alleged title defects or other alleged justification not to close the agreements after discovering negative information concerning the zones within the Collingwood range,” according to the lawsuit
T. Boone Pickens is poisening the water wells and streams through hydraulic fractureing, and since the 2005 Energy Bill, Oil and Gas companies are EXEMPT for the safe drinking water act, clean air act and tons of other environmental regulations. ANYONE who thinks this is just unfounded accusations, please do some research, or watch the documentary Gasland! T. Boone Pickens is a Scumbag, that doesn't care about anything/anyone else than Money and Power!
@adiostraitorobama WTF? calm down dude! Absolutely NO need for name calling. And besides, what is your factual basis for saying this man is a prvate profit. Point me towards the facts and i'll maybe have some respect for you. Good day.
T Boone Pickens, his parents obviously named him to be an oil billionaire, and it's getting bad when billionaires are griping about the price of gas! lol
this evil t. boone pickens bribed congress to put oil on the commodities market ! this evil t. boone pickens has made billions on the back of the poor. this t. boone pickens will rot with his filthy lucre in hell ! if oil were off the commodities market it would be under $40 a barrell ! go drink some heavy crude and then join king herod t. boone pickens ! hope you like burning in the oil of fire cause thats what hell is !
@osm3u he's goin to take off the american's water. the blue gold will be the future's oil. he's buying enormous lands to drain the fresh water and sell it back to the population, a dirty way to make profit with the basic human need. Once he owns the water, he will be able to control the population, and if you haven't money to pay for his water, so you won't take it.
World leaders are stressing on the importance of renewable energy in various sectors...With the rise in greenhouse gas emissions, the renewable energy sector has been gaining popularity. Fossil fuels are the biggest contributors of greenhouse gases. Switching to renewable energy sources like wind power will help reduce the carbon footprint. Pacific Crest Transformers manufacture liquid-filled distribution transformers . It has various articles related to transformers and the wind energy sector.
This old creep comes across with his Will Rodgers common sense routine, but he's lying to us. His real agenda is Offshore Drilling! The windmill stuff is just a bunch of bologna to suck in support from the ignorant. He is an oil pig!
Pickens is a crooked gas man and this "plan" is a classic bait and switch. He is all about drilling for (un)natural gas in the USA, a process that has already caused tremendous harm to communities in 34 states. You want to tell us the US is going to transition off of fossil fuel dependence using... fossil fuels???
Pickens, why don't you take Josh Fox up on his invitation to debate you on television?
@musicasodade He does not shy away from debates. He is an extremely busy guy, traveling thousands of miles a year to promote the plan while still running a billion dollar business. Although you are right, this plan will be profitable, he will not benefit from its profits. He is losing millions on this plan, and 2 billion on the wind turbines he purchased from GM. He will not recover those loses in his lifetime. Look at my previous comment to answer your question about fossil fuels
@notsolaxboy132 He is building the windfarm to obtain land under imminent domain to run a water pipeline with the power lines from the Ogallala aquifer to Dallas so he can control the entire water supply of North Texas. He was already turned down by land owners to build the pipeline so he's doing the wind farm thing to get imminent domain property rights (that's where the government just takes your private property). Yeah this dude is taking a 500 mil loss for a 1.5 bil gain. GET REAL FOOLS!
Wait is natural gas better than oil. Natural gas is cheapest, cleanest, & most common in the world. Also the questions is can Natural gas last forever in cars, trains, trucks, civilians/military planes, helicopter, & other forever than oil. Well if it is true then there is no point for our country, USA to pumped oil from Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Iraq, & other Arabs nations. We should stop pumping oil out of middle east sine we got natural gas.
@USAAIRPOWER natural gas cannot last forever. It's a bridge fuel to renewables, but it is cheaper, cleaner, and abundant in America - and that is the key; it's domestic! By waning ourselves off of foreign oil, we not only become energy dependent (saving hundreds of billions of dollars from leaving our economy) but we also become more sustainable. The Pickens Plan is the most practical and frankly simple solution to our energy crisis. All AMERICAN resources should be used and developed, even oil.
I see wind mills and solar panels everywhere in this vid, but from what I hear those things arent efficient. its ganna take a "Technological Development" to solve the problem. Always has, always will.
T Boon Ya fuck nut, its Ok to break the strangle hold on foreign oil, just quit lying about how you are doing it. Its not like Texans are a bunch of tree huggers anyway. Just get the tecno down on droppin the riggs deeper and for Gods sake quit screwin with the aquifer. The Russians gave up the goods, eventually people are gonna do the math and figure out oil aint dinosaurs.
WASHINGTON, Oct 21 (Reuters) - Oil tycoon T. Boone Pickens told Congress on Wednesday that U.S. energy companies are "entitled" to some of Iraq's crude because of the large number of American troops that lost their lives fighting in the country and the U.S. taxpayer money spent in Iraq.
Your full of shit. While he's out helping his country fat fucking faggots like yourself just sit around and bitch. Fuck you. He's 81 years old i guarantee you he's moved beyond the interest of wealth.
@OOKYDOOK so what if he makes money. He's older than dirt. Keep on spewing that neo fascist bullshit. Obviously he deserves your money since you can type a correct sentence.
Well now that T. Boone has cancelled his wind farm plans, and left GE Capital with a 2 billion dollar investment that most likely will never be paid back, what are we going to do?
People do realize the Reason that T Boone Pickens supports Wind is because he is rich in Natural Gas fields, and even though Wind is actually a really ineffective form of energy production, wildly expensive, and massively subsidized, it only operates on average less than 20% of the time. The other 80% of the time, Natural Gas reactors have to be run to make up the power lost. The issue of batteries is a moot idea, because that would further decrease the available power down to only 5%!
I worked for a wind company and was fired for pointing this out once too often. Big oil just loves regulation because regulation leads to subsidy and governments love it because it's a stealth tax they can blame on the private sector. Corporate fascism. Such a shame the enironmentalists fall for it hook, line and sinker.
Even if there were no threat of climate change, unless the United States re-tools and re-builds it's energy infrastructure around sustainable non-fossil resources, our systemic disadvantage in oil-reserves will guarantee a massive transfer of wealth out of our country as the value of foreign reserves increase exponentially by comparison to ours. It is a strategic imperative that we initiate, create and dominate a large scale green energy industry. Pickens owns huge gas reserves: fossil fuel.
How do I contact T Boone Pickens, to advise him of thieves...Concerning my Invention The (BARP) Process...it has been stolen...He must know about this being stolen...he's buying stolen property!!
Please warn...Mr. Pickens of what is going on in the meeting in Grand Praire Texas this week.
hey does anyone know that new ad with the hot air balloons, i think its a natural gas ad, anyways i really wanna kno that song that plays.... its something like "snap, snap little jack hand snap" pleaaaase get back to me =]
It's not just the US going green, the whole world needs to do so. One thing is for sure, is that the energy in wind is practically free. Plus jobs will be created with the new energy infrastructure, it would be good for those people who just got laid off, and does anyone have a problem with that?
Using natural gas for transportation might be a good idea. However for electric power generation nuclear has the best safety record in this country. Nobody was killed as a result of the three mile island "accident" in 1979. Unfortunatly Carter killed breeder reactors. I'm not against wind power, however I'm I think that a compressive nationl survey of wind speeds need to be done in order to avoid placing wind turbines in the wrong places.
I would rather live next to a nuclear power plant rather than a wind "farm". If it hadn't been for the antinuclear nuts who confuse weapons with power generation then we could be generating 80% of our power with nuclear energy as France does instead of 20%.
Shut up T Boone. We can drill our way out. Solar, wind, bio is a joke and everyone knows it. This country was built on petrolium. Without it we will crash. This country has an auto-immune disease. Nobody can destroy us so we are going to destroy ourselves.
How about a little research? U.S. produce 490.8 billion cu m of natural gas and natural gas proved reserves in the US - 5.551 trillion cu m(from World Factbook). So you'll run out of gas in 11-12 years... The only way to avoid this is to invest in Biofuel industry and fuel efficient technologies.
The US, woman gentleman you are good, if you want to understand, does not use the innovation which any energy can generate electricity, I hope you to invite, Pickens Plan, company's person, tells you, but I did not understand, Pickens Plan, company's person, does have the human who looks for the understanding Chinese, comes to see that my innovation, please for yours country, the family member who you cared, ask you to tell, Pickens Plan, the company, does not spend money with me to give, your
Just because drilling is not going to solve the problem on it's own, doesn't mean that we shouldn't drill. This alternative energy is going to take quite some time and MONEY to set in to motion. Think of it this way, many people wish they could get a fuel efficant vehicle, but with gas prices so high, they can't afford it.
(I do not understand English) I said that (Taiwan Chinese) solves the invention which the Earth warms, does not use the innovation which all energies possibly generate electricity your government, must be the national person makes this innovation if you did not understand that I said anything I ask you to tell you the National intelligence Organization completes this innovation I do not spend money to give your country In you tubeessential character a661333
and since he hasn't been a part of any oil compaines for a while his money is getting low so why not support him to become rich again? Come on America THINK!
That's an ignorant statement. First of all not everyone has the money to sell their SUV and buy some hybrid car. Secondly small businesses depend on trucks and large vans, they are an essential part of business. Lastly I have an 2007 F-150 and it gets 19 MPG which is for a truck.
My ex-boss knows Pickens very well. I think it involved the Texas Business for Clean Air or some type of litigation thing. I know I'd see her e-mails and Pickens was one of the persons she correponded with plus she has had some business meetings with him. It may go further than that but it's none of my business.
Well if you listen carefully, even if we tapped every domestic source, we still would not have enough oil to satisfy our demand for foreign oil. Pickens is the most practical solution. I'm in Argentina where most cars run on both Natural Gas and Regular Gas. They just retrofit them. We can do the same. They learned the hard way that importing oil is a bad thing.
(continues) there is no point in digging any more wells, however much is left. There's no point in spending millions drilling a well to access a small puddle of oil. World reserves are approaching the crossover point now, US reserves are about at it. The lines aren't straight.. technology improvements flatten the cost line and price increases flatten the yield line, but this only delays the inevitable. Pickens isn't a rich man for no reason, he knows his stuff.
The idea that there is lots of oil off US coastlines is both true and dangerously misleading. The largest and easiest reached fields were exploited first. From then on, the cost of access has risen, but the yield has fallen.
Imagine a graph with a vertical axis '$' and a horizontal axis 'time'. Time zero is when the first well was dug. A line on the graph shows cost, & climbs upwards. Another line on the graph shows yield & goes downwards. When the lines cross.. (continued)
I agree this is a wonderful idea, but donate the land and all rights into a fund for the public. Mr. Pickens claims he's 80 years old and worth 4 Billion, so why does he want the land and all it's water rights"wiki/Pickens_Plan". I just saying prove his word about the monies/land generated from this project.
Energy dependence on Persian Gulf countries is America's foremost National Security problem. We are financing our own demise by sending billions of dollars to the people who want to kill us. Radical madrassas that turn kids into homicidal zombies are financed by oil revenues. Radical mosques that preach hate, right here in America, are financed by oil revenues. The old slogan "Live Free or Die" might as well be replaced by "Energy Independence or Death". Support Pickens Plan! Bankrupt Terror!
It amazes me how wrong the Nuke people were . They now want the plants built because it helps save the planet. 30 years from now we will see how wrong they were about Global Warming.
This issue and the debate on it MUST be about the science and technology [and economics] and NOT about politics. Politics is why we are where we are now. Biofuels are the quick fix while we are converting everything and developing alternative technology. They will buy us time and KEEP THE MONEY HERE, which is why we need a crash program to make them NOW. There is enough misinformation about biofuels without you folks making it worse. We can feed the world AND power our cars, do the math.
I find it funny, you keep complaining about how ugly and annoying Windmills are, but you fail to mention how ugly and annoying the American coast would be dotted with Oil rigs which have a finite supply. Also, Nuclear is not completely clean, you have to do something with the waste. The more I read from you, the more I realize your are not an intelligent person. Just someone hiding behind a monitor pretending to know what (s)he is talking about.
There are thousands of oil rigs in the gulf, how many times have you heard complaints about people seeing them? 0. How many spills were caused by the 1200 or so that were sunk in Katrina? 0. Charter a fishing boat, tip a little extra for the "best" spot, they'll take you to an old rig base. Besides, if looking at one puts my gas back in the $1.50 range, I'll commission a mural of the Troll (Shell's big one, i think) on my house.
As for the nuke waste, a generic plant produces about 3 cubic meters per year, with 95% of the uranium and plutonium recoverable. France is currently 80% nuke powered, with Japan and the US second and third (percentage wise). For someone that likes to shout how little others now, you sure haven't provided much info, other than an offhand reference to a solar plane farce (I'm guessing it doesn't do red-eye flights) and an unsupported jab at an imaginary oil rig.
SO whats wrong with Thousands of Windmills in the Open Plains of the Midwest? Same thing your mentioning except Windmills dont pollute. No one is saying throw windmills in your back yard, but open land is a good idea, plus struggling Farmers get paid to put them on there land, and they dont even have to do a damn thing but watch the checks come. Oh, and you do realize that anything we produce oil wise will be picked up by the Chinese and India. This is a Global economy now, you need to catch up.
What's wrong with it? That's funny, we can't build rigs because they would "mar the pristine landscape of ANWR and the gulf", despite the fact that one does the job of hundreds of turbines, but plastering thousands of the inefficient, loud, strobing eyesores across a legitimate natural wilderness is ok. Oh I love the "global economy" line, the more you post the more you illustrate your elementary grasp of the situation, it's a world oil market, add supply anywhere cost lowers everywhere, catchup
ANWR is the size of south carolina, the amount of land needed to drill is the size of an average golf course. Or take a 9x12 rug and throw a quarter onto it, that's ANWR. Wildlife? The porcupine caribou population (that's supposed to be threatened by drilling) has quadrupled at prudhoe bay, current site of the alaskan pipeline. Natural oil seepage (equalling several times the valdez spill every year) into the gulf and pacific coast has lowered because pressure is relieved from the oil domes.
One inherently safe nuke plant can do the job of hundreds of square miles worth of windmills, will leave our wilderness open for preservation or developement, will be more reliable, and have less infrastructure to maintain, and it's here now, we don't have to wait decades and waste billions in taxpayer dollars developing it. I'm not saying don't look for alternatives, I'm saying our current options are a waste of time, wind, the best "option", can at best only be relied on for about 30% output.
again, the uranium and plutonium can be reprocessed, the "10,000 year nuke waste pile) is only if left untouched, depending on the type of waste and processing it can be as low as one year, and as stated before is expected to become a fuel itself for subcritical and fusion reactors. Possibly a virtual perpetual fuel transferred back and forth from fusion and fission reactor plants.
**One inherently safe nuke plant can do the job of hundreds of square miles worth of windmills, will leave our wilderness open for preservation or developement, will be more reliable, and have less infrastructure to maintain,**
Need to find Uranium, refine it, contain it,then deal with it after it isn't a viable fuel buyt still highly toxic
Besides that, if the whole world went "Nuclear" the supplies would be used up in about 10 years as Uranium is a rare metal
The uranium and plutonium can be reclaimed, as france and japan do (though only currently at something like 30%). It is something like 40 times more plentiful as silver, outnumbers tin, cadmium, mercury, and about even with arsenic, all used heavily for centuries everything from electronics components (arsenic) to freaking hats (mercury, it's why the mad hatter was...well, mad). It's rather easily stored and is expected to become a fuel source itself for subcritical and fusion reactors.
Nope those things look like carbon Fiber structures (carbon fiber is made from oil) with it's binding agen(made from oil) primer(oil),lube(oil), plastic parts(oil) and has metal likely smelted with coke(oil) if not natural gas (which can be extracted from oil in eddition to Butane, propane, kerosine, and stock feeds to make nylon, acrylic, petroleum jelly, etc)
I own a company developing 10kw composite windmills, so yes there are good people doing good work with the best intentions, but this guy isn't one of us. He talks the talk, but doesn't walk the walk. He's after the money bags congress is getting ready to cut loose for alternative energy. People like him prey on ignorance and profit from it.
T. Boone is 80 years old, he is over 3 Billion USD. Do you honestly believe that he needs any more money at this point in his life? This is a man trying to save America from a addiction to oil. Sure, he will make a buck doing it, but he will do it a lot more effectively than the government ever could.
Republican or Democrat, it doesn't matter, everyone is looking for a handout. Republicans want handouts and don't want their businesses to pay taxes. The Democrats want handouts and don't want to pay taxes because they're poor.
What T. Boone is advocating is far to little far far too late. If we are experiencing the beginnings of world peak oil, then a 38% shift in transportation fuels won't come close to saving our hides. We need government investment in magnetic fusion energy in a major way. This is the only true way of solving the energy crisis once and for all. Not to mention Global Warming. Click my name joshuaki3 to watch my short documentary on the subject of fusion research.
Unfortunately we are not all billionaires like Pickens' so the practical approach is not to spend BILLIONS of dollars over the next couple years when America is failing in every other aspect of the economy.
Everyone please read up on the issue and dont reply on youtube vids. OFFSHORE DRILLING IS JUST ANOTHER WAY TO SURGE THE MARKET VALUE OF THESE RICH COMPANIES. GLOBAL ECONOMY MEANS IF WE DRILL THE WORLD MARKET WILL SOAK UP MOST AMERICAN PRODUCTION ANYWAY!
Mary Watkins, a large group of us have the opinion that as the new CEO of PacWind you should be ashamed for personally spending the company´s money without showing any returns to investors or even refunds to all the unhappy customers who never received any product. Your father would be ashamed for using his name and his death in a marketing video as emotional manipulation to sell PacWind products to the unsuspecting public worldwide and attract new investors.
How come nobody talks about Tesla Scientific Principles. The Inventor of the Alternating Currency [A/C] was well aware that the scientific possibility exists to extract energy out of a vacuum, better known as "Zero Point Energy" and yet nobody has even entertained this. Everyone thinks it is science fiction but at one time even cell phones and nuclear energy was considered science fiction.
Over the past 12 months PacWind has suffered a loss of four key employees, including several investors as well as of yesterday their general counsel. Word is that as usual the vertical axis turbine production numbers have been fudged or altered in a way to increase sales and distribution of a product that does not work well. Its a shame that PacWind cannot just own up to the false production claims, fix the product, then reenter the market when they actually have working models.
Canada invested heavily in Oil Sand technology, barely making a profit but have brought huge sums into the country by selling to the United States. Recently, they found another huge Oil Sand resource in western Canada they want to exploit, the could be a reason for the denouncing of American energy expansion plans.
we could use methanol for transportation of hydrogen for dirty city areas. use nuclear for electricity and electric cars and mass transportation. switch grass for rural areas because of transportation costs. use wind where available. shale oil in the mountain areas. hydroelectric in the large flowing river areas. and, offshore oil production in the coastal areas and heavy industrial states. Allow an energy monopoly as long as it combines the resources, profits and spread out the risks. free us.
I just finished Alternative Energy Policy in America, and I'm onto Winning Our Energy Independence. Good reads for people who make ignorant comments about windmills being "loud eyesores". Wind is efficient in many regions. Where I am, a wind farm produces energy at about .05/kw hour. I've visited wind farms. They aren't too loud, and I think they're more appealing than a smokestack.
Of course, I'm sure Sun Tzu didn't have anything to say about that. Good game.
Wow, you saw a whopping .5 kw turbine! It must have been huge!
God such 2 dimensional thinking, one smokestack tucked in the corner of one county can provide power for several. If you used wind turbines you'd have to cover one county with them to provide power for the others is the point. Nuke plant? No smokestack! Simple concept.
The one's you're talking about are pitifully small backyard turbines, try spending an afternoon trying to relax under one as it whistles, squeaks and whooshes, or see how your neighbors like having it or you having their turbines strobing your windows when the shadow falls on it. Then after you do that, go ask the people next to "real" wind farms, the ones with 80 foot blades and outputs measured in megawatts, just how quiet and beautiful they are to behold in the sunset.
Oh and good job scratching up some books to pretend you've read (reading excerpts on the interwebs doesn't exactly count, by the way), couldn't get any hits on the first one, even on amazon. Second one made me snort my gatorade out of my nose, when I saw who wrote. A pontification from a carter administration "energy expert". Awesome, the presidency responsible for the actual energy crisis, fuel rationing, gas station riots, with solutions such as "wear a sweater and turn down the heat".Good job
No, you said "Where I am, a wind farm produces energy at about .05/kw hour...", nothing about cost, READ your own post before trying to preach to someone else for misunderstanding it. I actually assumed it was a typo and thought surely you meant .5, but that's what I get for thinking.
The point is that whether it's input energy, land required, or moving parts/maintenance in relation to output, wind is weak in all aspects. Sure you could get some viability out of small niche markets like prisons, military bases and such, but it can't come close to putting a dent in the national energy draw, well unless you have a mass relocation plan for the population of idaho, nebraska, hell the whole midwest so you can power the rest of the nation.
".05/kwh" is a clear reference to cost. Your interpretation doesn't make sense.
Nobody's proposing the whole country be powered by wind. The reason I'm in this debate is b/c it kills me that people blatantly oppose an efficient, domestic energy source. My statement: efficient wind farms produce energy at or below $.05/kwh. That's FIVE CENTS OR LESS per kilowatt hour. Industrialized nations use wind in their energy mix.
Beyond debate, a genuine question: Why do you oppose it so strongly?
".05/kw hour" is a ratio with no value definition in the numerator or whatever that position is. It could be decibels, degrees, midgets, poodles, you already made one typo, why not another with incorrect positioning of the slash? I'm in this debate because I can't understand the myopia of those that don't want to use the obscene amounts of readily available energy sources at hand while these "alternatives" are being researched to a point of viability. Even the most conservative estimates...
put north american fossil fuel supplies available into the next century, it's here, it could be cheap (if supply were allowed to react to demand), it employs people, and the infrastructure is in place, why the hell are we not allowing ourselves to use it while all these alternative techs are being sorted into the "pipe dream" and "viable" piles? I also get peeved at the hypocrisy of the (false) argument of: "it would take a decade to see the results of drilling now" argument.......
....because there is no alternative, aside from nuclear, that can take the place of fossil fuels at the moment and won't be for decades. So we should deny ourselves oil now and starve to death waiting for an alternative to become feasible? Makes a whole lot of sense. It's an argument born of politics and class warfare, " that guy made money selling oil or coal to someone else, he now has more money than me, so he must be bad and I need to legislate punishment to make him as miserable as I am".
I also take issue with the fact that people are villifying nuke tech which is currently the single most powerful energy tech in existence with imaginary and nearly impossible tragedies that "they saw in that movie that one time". As well as the villification of the only people currently doing anything to provide energy to the world, "Big Oil". Did their profits go up? Sure, because more individual units were sold. But their profit margin has steadily decreased each year....
..as they spend more on environmental techs, exploration, research in general. Has the overall cost gone up? Of course, demand is skyrocketing and they're not allowed to increase supply in step with it. That and the ridiculous idea that you can "tax" any industry, here's a hint, tax a company that makes a product, the product miraculously costs more. The worst part, all that tax revenue is going to the people that do the most to restrict our energy needs, federal and state governments.
Should we research new techs? sure, that's what people do, that's why we're not still scratching pictures on cave walls. I just don't want us to punish companies that provide us with proven tech through legislation and using those funds to reward hacks through subsidies with unproven tech. Let the market get what the market needs, it will sort itself out, quit trying to force me to fund these snake oil salesman with a bunch of IOU's on what they think they can do, when they CAN do it, I'll pay.
Don't be manipulated by the con-artist. What he wants is us to support the government stealing land from private owners, through eminent domain, and giving it to him for free. He also wants government to restrict oil imports to make it more expensive so that he can monopolize wind power generation.
I'm pretty sure he's building a wind farm out in west Texas that will be one of the biggest(if not the biggest) in the world. If that isn't putting his plan into action then I don't know what is.
The average IQ is 10 points above a moron, and this is the reason to use simple language and expressive graphics to show complex issues. T Bone Pickens is a good spokesperson and this illustration was excellent. It needs to be broadcast to the world to show that Americans can do this and will. In any event, use the KISS rule and never forget there are many nasty people who benefit greatly if this fails. We have challenges.
Wind Power would create more jobs. Ofourse, there would be the negative affects but the positive affects would outweigh the negatives in the long run. See, innovation will continue and then ofourse wind would become obsolete and something much better will replace it. I think a robust space program would also be part of it in the great scheme.
That is the Fed Res. is creating more problems and may be decelerating economic/financial growth. Pres. Andrew Jackson was right even if that was during his era.
The Federal Reserve would also need to be fixed or eliminated to generate innovation and competition. WHY? because its actions are creating more and is part of the energy crisis.
I heard somewhere that just ONE of those windmills could power over 300 homes. Is that true? Then what the hell are we waiting for? Let's build some already!
2.5 megawatt Clipper windturbine powers 675 homes. If you live in Kauai with 58,000 people you'd need ~37 windturbines to provide all of Kauai's homes with their electricity. Extrapolate that for your town, or small city. David Goodstein of CalTech (author of Out Of Gas) states that an area 80 miles square in one of our deserts could provide all the electricity USA 48 states need. Lose half % per 100 miles of DC transmission. 3000miles lose 15%. Not bad. Nukes slow kill via radioactivity.
And where the hell on Kauai are you going to find room for 37 wind turbines? My town has about 750,000 residents, where the hell in middle georgia are we going to put 481 turbines? His claims are highly dubious, what happens when the wind isn't blowing? 80 square miles is roughly the size of a city of 100,000, you mean a bunch of windmills packed in there could power a city of 8 million? Even 5 megawatt windmills need almost .4 acres a piece, you'd need almost 1000 acres to replace Scherer alone
Correction, I seem to remember in my conversation with one of our guys that handle wind turbines that once you reach a certain number you need to increase the footprint even larger, so that .4 is just a ballpark. And no my math isn't wrong, you can only count on each one running at about 30%, so you have to triple the final number.
People...$700 bill are LEAVING the country every year. PooF...Gone! Where is the oil from last year? GONE! Are you mad about all the prices you can't afford now? Guess what, if our economy is flushing 700BILL a year how in the world do think we can survive. Stop complaining about who's the most green and start worrying about who is RED...Blood RED from the darn BLEEDING going on here! Wake up before our economy is completely dead...it's surely critical right now!
You literally don't know what you're talking about. Solar and wind could both power the entire country easliy. When the energy is gathered it's added back to the national grid and everyone can use it no matter where they live. Solar is the most powerful kind of energy there is and we can use it right now. We don't need fossil fuels and Pickens knows that ... he just wants to profit off more pollution. Read some science articles why don't you. Stay away from the right-wing propaganda.
Right, Guantamo, a small naval base that makes up a ridiculously small percentage of the land mass of Cuba, has 4 huge windmills, that only make up around 9% of the bases energy. Many articles throw the number 25% around, but that's only an estimate and only refers to the high wind months like july. You'd have to cover the state of new york with solar panels to put a dent in the city's power needs. This is what I do for a living, it's ok for bases, prisons, warehouses, but municipally it'suseless
the reason foreign oil went overseas in the first place is cause we had none left. the reason we need to start weening is cause of the peak oil concept. if the oil production stopped tomorrow we'd see whats about to happen in Nigeria when they lift oil subsidies.

Pickens, why don't you take Josh Fox up on his invitation to debate you on television?
musicasodade 1 year ago
@musicasodade He does not shy away from debates. He is an extremely busy guy, traveling thousands of miles a year to promote the plan while still running a billion dollar business. Although you are right, this plan will be profitable, he will not benefit from its profits. He is losing millions on this plan, and 2 billion on the wind turbines he purchased from GM. He will not recover those loses in his lifetime. Look at my previous comment to answer your question about fossil fuels
notsolaxboy132 1 year ago
@notsolaxboy132 He is building the windfarm to obtain land under imminent domain to run a water pipeline with the power lines from the Ogallala aquifer to Dallas so he can control the entire water supply of North Texas.
USAAIRPOWER 1 year ago
@USAAIRPOWER natural gas cannot last forever. It's a bridge fuel to renewables, but it is cheaper, cleaner, and abundant in America - and that is the key; it's domestic! By waning ourselves off of foreign oil, we not only become energy dependent (saving hundreds of billions of dollars from leaving our economy) but we also become more sustainable. The Pickens Plan is the most practical and frankly simple solution to our energy crisis. All AMERICAN resources should be used and developed, even oil.

UKRentor1605 2 years ago 2
I worked for a wind company and was fired for pointing this out once too often. Big oil just loves regulation because regulation leads to subsidy and governments love it because it's a stealth tax they can blame on the private sector. Corporate fascism.

Using natural gas for transportation might be a good idea. However for electric power generation nuclear has the best safety record in this country. Nobody was killed as a result of the three mile island "accident" in 1979. Unfortunatly Carter killed breeder reactors. I'm not against wind power, however I'm I think that a compressive nationl survey of wind speeds need to be done in order to avoid placing wind turbines in the wrong places.
chaffeebl 3 years ago

T Boone however, is a tool trying to use public opinion to justify getting the government to throw money at him and give him water rights.

I would rather live next to a nuclear power plant rather than a wind "farm". If it hadn't been for the antinuclear nuts who confuse weapons with power generation then we could be generating 80% of our power with nuclear energy as France does instead of 20%.

They learned the hard way that importing oil is a bad thing.
webfulfill 3 years ago
(continues) there is no point in digging any more wells, however much is left. There's no point in spending millions drilling a well to access a small puddle of oil. World reserves are approaching the crossover point now, US reserves are about at it. The lines aren't straight.. technology improvements flatten the cost line and price increases flatten the yield line, but this only delays the inevitable. Pickens isn't a rich man for no reason, he knows his stuff.
bimblinghill 3 years ago
The idea that there is lots of oil off US coastlines is both true and dangerously misleading. The largest and easiest reached fields were exploited first. From then on, the cost of access has risen, but the yield has fallen.
Imagine a graph with a vertical axis '$' and a horizontal axis 'time'. Time zero is when the first well was dug. A line on the graph shows cost, & climbs upwards. Another line on the graph shows yield & goes downwards. When the lines cross.. (continued)

I find it funny, you keep complaining about how ugly and annoying Windmills are, but you fail to mention how ugly and annoying the American coast would be dotted with Oil rigs which have a finite supply.

For someone that likes to shout how little others now, you sure haven't provided much info, other than an offhand reference to a solar plane farce (I'm guessing it doesn't do red-eye flights) and an unsupported jab at an imaginary oil rig.
wytkracka 3 years ago
SO whats wrong with Thousands of Windmills in the Open Plains of the Midwest? Same thing your mentioning except Windmills dont pollute. No one is saying throw windmills in your back yard, but open land is a good idea, plus struggling Farmers get paid to put them on there land, and they dont even have to do a damn thing but watch the checks come. Oh, and you do realize that anything we produce oil wise will be picked up by the Chinese and India. This is a Global economy now, you need to catch up.
Aiieca 3 years ago
What's wrong with it? That's funny, we can't build rigs because they would "mar the pristine landscape of ANWR and the gulf", despite the fact that one does the job of hundreds of turbines, but plastering thousands of the inefficient, loud, strobing eyesores across a legitimate natural wilderness is ok. Oh I love the "global economy" line, the more you post the more you illustrate your elementary grasp of the situation, it's a world oil market, add supply anywhere cost lowers everywhere, catchup
wytkracka 3 years ago
ANWR is the size of south carolina, the amount of land needed to drill is the size of an average golf course. Or take a 9x12 rug and throw a quarter onto it, that's ANWR. Wildlife? The porcupine caribou population (that's supposed to be threatened by drilling) has quadrupled at prudhoe bay, current site of the alaskan pipeline. Natural oil seepage (equalling several times the valdez spill every year) into the gulf and pacific coast has lowered because pressure is relieved from the oil domes.
wytkracka 3 years ago
One inherently safe nuke plant can do the job of hundreds of square miles worth of windmills, will leave our wilderness open for preservation or developement, will be more reliable, and have less infrastructure to maintain, and it's here now, we don't have to wait decades and waste billions in taxpayer dollars developing it. I'm not saying don't look for alternatives, I'm saying our current options are a waste of time, wind, the best "option", can at best only be relied on for about 30% output.
wytkracka 3 years ago
How long do we have to store the waste product from wind power?
mousenblack 3 years ago
again, the uranium and plutonium can be reprocessed, the "10,000 year nuke waste pile) is only if left untouched, depending on the type of waste and processing it can be as low as one year, and as stated before is expected to become a fuel itself for subcritical and fusion reactors. Possibly a virtual perpetual fuel transferred back and forth from fusion and fission reactor plants.
wytkracka 3 years ago
**One inherently safe nuke plant can do the job of hundreds of square miles worth of windmills, will leave our wilderness open for preservation or developement, will be more reliable, and have less infrastructure to maintain,**
Need to find Uranium, refine it, contain it,then deal with it after it isn't a viable fuel buyt still highly toxic
Besides that, if the whole world went "Nuclear" the supplies would be used up in about 10 years as Uranium is a rare metal
TheRealArchAngel 3 years ago

Birds may be weary enough to avoid them though

Wind is a great way to phase out other dirty fuels and needs to be in place before electric cars are on the road in just a few years.
Everyone needs to help
CNG Gas cars can be fueled in your own garage if you have natural gas at your home and you can drive 200 miles on a tank
All car makers make CNG cars today The 2008 Honda Civic is my favorite but
Ford makes a F100 if you want a truck
There is no reason to wait and no need to use funky addons from unknown companies.

The Democrats want handouts and don't want to pay taxes because they're poor.
kitsune361 3 years ago

Yup your right, too little too late!!

Shame on you!!

Recently, they found another huge Oil Sand resource in western Canada they want to exploit, the could be a reason for the denouncing of American energy expansion plans.
mykol13v 3 years ago
we could use methanol for transportation of hydrogen for dirty city areas. use nuclear for electricity and electric cars and mass transportation. switch grass for rural areas because of transportation costs. use wind where available. shale oil in the mountain areas. hydroelectric in the large flowing river areas. and, offshore oil production in the coastal areas and heavy industrial states.

Good game.
coons7 3 years ago
Wow, you saw a whopping .5 kw turbine! It must have been huge!
God such 2 dimensional thinking, one smokestack tucked in the corner of one county can provide power for several. If you used wind turbines you'd have to cover one county with them to provide power for the others is the point. Nuke plant? No smokestack! Simple concept.
wytkracka 3 years ago
The one's you're talking about are pitifully small backyard turbines, try spending an afternoon trying to relax under one as it whistles, squeaks and whooshes, or see how your neighbors like having it or you having their turbines strobing your windows when the shadow falls on it. Then after you do that, go ask the people next to "real" wind farms, the ones with 80 foot blades and outputs measured in megawatts, just how quiet and beautiful they are to behold in the sunset.
wytkracka 3 years ago
Oh and good job scratching up some books to pretend you've read (reading excerpts on the interwebs doesn't exactly count, by the way), couldn't get any hits on the first one, even on amazon. Second one made me snort my gatorade out of my nose, when I saw who wrote. A pontification from a carter administration "energy expert". Awesome, the presidency responsible for the actual energy crisis, fuel rationing, gas station riots, with solutions such as "wear a sweater and turn down the heat".Good job
wytkracka 3 years ago
The first book is from my school's library. It's real, I read it, I cited it in my research paper on feasibility of wind power in NW Ohio.
Second, READ my post. I didn't say a .5kw turbine, I said the energy is produced at $.05/kwh. Big difference.
Third, the noise isn't bad. Sure, I wouldn't picnic under one, but nobody was planning one there before the wind farm, and it's not loud.
Last, the author messed up 30 years ago. However, I'd vouch that he knows more on the subject than you.
"Wow"
coons7 3 years ago
No, you said "Where I am, a wind farm produces energy at about .05/kw hour...", nothing about cost, READ your own post before trying to preach to someone else for misunderstanding it. I actually assumed it was a typo and thought surely you meant .5, but that's what I get for thinking.
"Wow"
wytkracka 3 years ago
The point is that whether it's input energy, land required, or moving parts/maintenance in relation to output, wind is weak in all aspects. Sure you could get some viability out of small niche markets like prisons, military bases and such, but it can't come close to putting a dent in the national energy draw, well unless you have a mass relocation plan for the population of idaho, nebraska, hell the whole midwest so you can power the rest of the nation.
wytkracka 3 years ago
".05/kwh" is a clear reference to cost. Your interpretation doesn't make sense.
Nobody's proposing the whole country be powered by wind. The reason I'm in this debate is b/c it kills me that people blatantly oppose an efficient, domestic energy source. My statement: efficient wind farms produce energy at or below $.05/kwh. That's FIVE CENTS OR LESS per kilowatt hour. Industrialized nations use wind in their energy mix.
Beyond debate, a genuine question: Why do you oppose it so strongly?
coons7 3 years ago
".05/kw hour" is a ratio with no value definition in the numerator or whatever that position is. It could be decibels, degrees, midgets, poodles, you already made one typo, why not another with incorrect positioning of the slash? I'm in this debate because I can't understand the myopia of those that don't want to use the obscene amounts of readily available energy sources at hand while these "alternatives" are being researched to a point of viability. Even the most conservative estimates...
wytkracka 3 years ago
put north american fossil fuel supplies available into the next century, it's here, it could be cheap (if supply were allowed to react to demand), it employs people, and the infrastructure is in place, why the hell are we not allowing ourselves to use it while all these alternative techs are being sorted into the "pipe dream" and "viable" piles? I also get peeved at the hypocrisy of the (false) argument of: "it would take a decade to see the results of drilling now" argument.......
wytkracka 3 years ago
....because there is no alternative, aside from nuclear, that can take the place of fossil fuels at the moment and won't be for decades. So we should deny ourselves oil now and starve to death waiting for an alternative to become feasible? Makes a whole lot of sense. It's an argument born of politics and class warfare, " that guy made money selling oil or coal to someone else, he now has more money than me, so he must be bad and I need to legislate punishment to make him as miserable as I am".
wytkracka 3 years ago
I also take issue with the fact that people are villifying nuke tech which is currently the single most powerful energy tech in existence with imaginary and nearly impossible tragedies that "they saw in that movie that one time". As well as the villification of the only people currently doing anything to provide energy to the world, "Big Oil". Did their profits go up? Sure, because more individual units were sold. But their profit margin has steadily decreased each year....
wytkracka 3 years ago
..as they spend more on environmental techs, exploration, research in general. Has the overall cost gone up? Of course, demand is skyrocketing and they're not allowed to increase supply in step with it. That and the ridiculous idea that you can "tax" any industry, here's a hint, tax a company that makes a product, the product miraculously costs more. The worst part, all that tax revenue is going to the people that do the most to restrict our energy needs, federal and state governments.
wytkracka 3 years ago

Let's build some already!
dodgerdodgerbubodger 3 years ago
2.5 megawatt Clipper windturbine powers 675 homes. If you live in Kauai with 58,000 people you'd need ~37 windturbines to provide all of Kauai's homes with their electricity. Extrapolate that for your town, or small city. David Goodstein of CalTech (author of Out Of Gas) states that an area 80 miles square in one of our deserts could provide all the electricity USA 48 states need. Lose half % per 100 miles of DC transmission. 3000miles lose 15%. Not bad. Nukes slow kill via radioactivity.
conradmillermd 3 years ago
And where the hell on Kauai are you going to find room for 37 wind turbines? My town has about 750,000 residents, where the hell in middle georgia are we going to put 481 turbines? His claims are highly dubious, what happens when the wind isn't blowing? 80 square miles is roughly the size of a city of 100,000, you mean a bunch of windmills packed in there could power a city of 8 million? Even 5 megawatt windmills need almost .4 acres a piece, you'd need almost 1000 acres to replace Scherer alone
wytkracka 3 years ago

Wake up before our economy is completely dead...it's surely critical right now!
faylow105 3 years ago 2
You literally don't know what you're talking about. Solar and wind could both power the entire country easliy. When the energy is gathered it's added back to the national grid and everyone can use it no matter where they live. Solar is the most powerful kind of energy there is and we can use it right now. We don't need fossil fuels and Pickens knows that ... he just wants to profit off more pollution. Read some science articles why don't you. Stay away from the right-wing propaganda.
shellius 3 years ago
Right, Guantamo, a small naval base that makes up a ridiculously small percentage of the land mass of Cuba, has 4 huge windmills, that only make up around 9% of the bases energy. Many articles throw the number 25% around, but that's only an estimate and only refers to the high wind months like july. You'd have to cover the state of new york with solar panels to put a dent in the city's power needs. This is what I do for a living, it's ok for bases, prisons, warehouses, but municipally it'suseless
