@s0undch4ser guess the ref caused Clarke to slash Kharlamov's ankle as well in 72'. Clarke was almost unbeatable in the face off circle...he was a great leader with a even greater work ethic,he worked hard for every goal he scored, he played as well without the puck as he did with it...he could have had a perfectly respectable career but he chose to tarnish it with a litany of cheap shots. There are those who say he wouldn't have made the NHL any other way...but I disagree.

A 1987 inductee into the Hockey Hall of Fame, Clarke was rated number 24 on The Hockey News' list of The Top 100 NHL Players of All-Time in 1998. I would call that an impressive career.

I think he was killed in a car crash in the early 80's, he also played in the Miracle On Ice against the U.S. This was just an example of an unfortunate aspect of the Canadian style hockey. Bobby Clarke takes no class awards in my book even by Canadian standards where brutal enforcement is acceptable.

@jaromT Daniel Alfredsson took a slapshot at Scott Neidermeyer's head after the buzzer in the playoffs a few years back. Before that, he charged and hit Darcy Tucker from behind, breaking the man's collar bone. He's done the same to other players throughout his career (with less severe injuries unless I'm mistaken, but nonetheless). Yet, after all of this he is still loved in Ottawa, and he's not even anything special! Clarke represents an era and his play won Stanley Cups and a Summit Series.
