I've made slot of these that have very similar results, haha probably because i use flash for my explosive...... It is really bad for shaped charges. But it still Shot a convex penny that didn't invert through an aluminum alloy heat sink.
Might try to form the hemisphere from a slug of copper rather than a penny for a better jet. Modern pennies are actually not made out of copper, they're copper plated zinc in a ratio of around 2.5% copper with the balance being zinc.
Well, they are liars. I have tried many explosives in shaped charges and no AN mixes worked decently, this includes AN/FO, AN/WAX, and AN/NM. AN/NG and AN/MN worked decently though. The best shaped charges I made were with plasticized PETN, MHN, RDX, liquid strate methyl nitrate worked very nicely too. For shaped charges you may as well throw away APAN because it simply isn't strong enough. ETN would probally work well too and it is easily prepared.

if U had 2g of explosive and 3g of cap it gives 5g not 2g like in the describtion

Apan sucks for that trust me ive tried it i havent had any real sucssess until i used ETN

Well, true the VoD is low, but at least with larger charges, I've heard people report very successful SC's using APAN and even ANFO

@ztrain727 use ANNMAL. use this stuff only for boosters and caps. Etn is pretty expensive for large amounts so i use that in caps only.
