Recorded on April 16 and 17, the GT-R used was a base specification car and fitted with the standard Japanese market tyres. Driven by GT-R chief test driver Tochio Suzuki, this latest lap time beats the previous fastest time for the GT-R by nine seconds.

Yeah the car is amazing and all...But if you notice they start the timer immediately after the blue banner on the right side of the start finish time...at the 1:07 mark...fast forward to the 8:48 mark...they stop the timer at the begging of the blue banner. A FULL 4 seconds before the original start timer...I feel that this is false advertisement and that whoever released this video has Lied to the world...

The track looks fine for most of the lap, just the usual last bits to dry at Bergwerk. The Z06 would be fine in the same conditions, it seems a lot more stable on turn in than the gtr, suppose 300kg lighter weight helps with that! Great drive from Dirk though!

I would have to disagree with you about the Z06 being unstable. I have one at the moment and have done many laps of the ring in it. It is one of the most stable and benign cars I have owned, and I have had lots of nice Porsches etc. Have you had a go in one? If not I would be delighted to take you out in it at the ring this year. If your autocross is like ours here in the UK then 1st and 2nd gear stuff I can see how you got the impression you have about the Z06. All that 500lbft and 1st and 2nd with rwd and she will move about a lot! In the Z06 i use 2nd twice in a lap. 996 turbo is a good car, i had a 996 GT2 last which was a real handful compared to the Z06, hence my comment really! Cheers.

The thing that impressed me the most is not that the car was so amazingly fast, its how composed the driver was! The car handled so well that the driver did not need to make any over corrections. The car was so composed through the high speed turns, that is what makes this car so incredible. Nissan is right and let them try and beat this car at a track! I will put money on this car, look out porsche, corvette and ferrari!

I can't remember what it beat the Bugatti by but there is a clip somewhere I'll find it and send it to you, it's the same clip I sent you but it has a list of the best lap times and in which cars, I'm pretty sure it was between 0.5-1 second which is amazing considering the power and handling of the Veyron on 1 lap.

and in the feburary 8th issue of car and driver it says the 7:49 run by the Z06 and the 7:38 run by the GT-R are the officially recorded times, along with the 911 turbo which ran 7:54. the GT-R beat both cars by over 10 seconds. which is more than enough to give it the respect it deserves.

0-60 is meaningless. no one races 0-60. the z06 will pull far better 0-60 times with traction, its traction limited by the run flat tires. there have been many indpendent tests off the GTR around the ring. they all got around 7:50 lap times. which is on par with a stock c5 z06 and a base model c6. notice there was no 1/4 time on the test... the car traps 118-120mph and has no chance against a z06 in a drag race.

the guy who drove the vette is one of the corvette racing's gt1 drivers. so he has thousands of hours logged in a c5.r and c6.r some guys from a magazine aren't going to drive as well as him. and its not a GM claim... its a fact. it actually happened. with a from the factory production z06 with the run flat tires. the gtr is out in japan, you know if it actually could beat a z06 in a drag race, or road race. they would've done it a million times over and had it plastered everywhere.

The u.s. doesn't need a revamp because we don't have a need for small efficient cars. These are the cars that lead to fun to drive high g cornering. It's just a different market. For those of us who do want that we buy evos and subarus. However it's a very small overall percentage. question. I drive an sti, should I buy a gtr? Or, is it not worth the price premium. The track looks fine for most of the lap, just the usual last bits to dry at Bergwerk. The Z06 would be fine in the same conditions, it seems a lot more stable on turn in than the gtr, suppose 300kg lighter weight helps with that! Great drive from Dirk though!

I would have to disagree with you about the Z06 being unstable. I have one at the moment and have done many laps of the ring in it. It is one of the most stable and benign cars I have owned, and I have had lots of nice Porsches etc. Have you had a go in one? If not I would be delighted to take you out in it at the ring this year. If your autocross is like ours here in the UK then 1st and 2nd gear stuff I can see how you got the impression you have about the Z06. All that 500lbft and 1st and 2nd with rwd and she will move about a lot! In the Z06 i use 2nd twice in a lap. 996 turbo is a good car, i had a 996 GT2 last which was a real handful compared to the Z06, hence my comment really! Cheers.

The thing that impressed me the most is not that the car was so amazingly fast, its how composed the driver was! The car handled so well that the driver did not need to make any over corrections. The car was so composed through the high speed turns, that is what makes this car so incredible. Nissan is right and let them try and beat this car at a track! I will put money on this car, look out porsche, corvette and ferrari!

None of us have driven the new gtr so we can only comment about the lap time....7:38 speaks for itself. You cant argue about it's driving capabilities because only a fool would say this car is overrated.
The price when it goes on sale in the U.K will be 55,000 sterling the japanese will only have to pay 35,000 sterling.
That translated to lets say $70,000 U.S I personally cannot think of a better car for the money. If im wrong can someone please correct me...

Any 69 ZL1 is easily capable of 11s with any competent driver, and running on drag slicks, can easily run deep into the 10s. The quickest documented ZL-1 was a 10.89 @ 130 by Motor Trend in 1968.

does anyone think the gtr is not as good as people think it is? with the 100 or something road limit speed? if nissan was going to do that then its only going to be used on the track... then why did they make it a v6? if they wanted a good track car they should have gone on light weight agility, but then i still have not found were the gtr is placed on the board of cars... its not a rally car... its not a highway racer.... its not a track car with all that weight

ask yourself, why are Porsche 911s only 6 cylinders? If they are able to produce such power from a 6 cyclinder theres no need to add extrs cylinders which adds more weight..
