I mean, hell, the bill doesn't even do away with private insurance! And as someone who just got dropped from my dad's coverage cause i'm too old now , and as someone who has preexisting conditions that are expensive to treat, new regulations were sorely needed! The honest people of the private sector cannot compete with the STATE which doesn't have to worry about paying its bills and can run up endless debt without consequence. The STATE will in fact force the private insurance companies out of business, so you will not have a CHOICE. The only option you will have is the STATE to provide your health care. What if you don't like the STATE's healthcare insurance that they provide to you? Where will you go then?

To be clear, I don't like the individual mandate either (if that's what you're worried about), but that was one of the few aspects of the bill with Republican support, so I'm fairly sure that you would've seen a similar mandate in the Republicans' version too.

That was all hype, and the only threat to freedom was the Patriot Act, the repeal of habeus corpus, the expansion of executive power under Bush and Cheney. yeah, I see that, but realistically, every full-time job I've ever had has required me to buy health insurance to work. That's just my anecdotal experience. But I agree, that part seems unfair.

May I point out - the protests, as I understand it, were not against the individual mandate part of the bill. They were just against "Obamacare," a specter. Maybe it was just a problem with focus, but with the senators and Fox taking the lead as they did, it looks very much like simple partisanship.
