My house it right past where this was filmed. You can see these tracks from my window. Come take all the pictures you want on my property for $10. Oh yeah did I mention FREE beer?
my friend told me he did 4 days in west chicago jail cause they thought he was gonna blow crap up cause his car broke down and he left it there took the metra back too villa park then came back too get his which they towed and they arrested him for tresspassing and terrorist stuff
Nice series of shots of the J grabbing paperwork! That is great cause the hoop is now attached to the tower, so that view with the nice light is no more. :(
Yes, but as i mentioned in the video The J, UP, and West Chicago Police do arrest and question tresspassers so remain away from the tower, this does not exculde the city street righ next to it though.
I just relized you can't really hear the last voice over in the end. I basically said that some UP coal trains will pull over the junction, let off the conductor, pull forward to the push locomotive were the conductor will get on and drive the train (back up move) back over the junction...
...into the yard onto the wye which then enters the J. It will stop on the J and the UP crew will be removed. A J crew then will head the coal train up to either a Indiana Power Plant or to one of the steel mills. This move is more common on Sundays when rail traffic permits it. To best capture this listen to a Scanner on you will hear the UP dispatcher taking to JB tower about a coal train back up move. The best area to view is from the library parking lot on the north side of the tracks.
Forgot to mention that this area is very safe and friendly to visit. Also there used to be a BN connection here for UP and BNSF to exchange cars but it was abbonded in the 90's and the track was just removed this past spring (2007). The line further west is used for a factory spur to General Mills.
Finally, Just South of the Junction on the J is a fenced off area that usually has covered hopper cars. This property is part of a toxic clean up opperation that is serviced by UP and EJ&E.
(Illegal dumping of toxic waste occured here back in the 90's)

I have only seen 1 CN train and heard of another CN train that use that line. It is almost all UP.

The Town Used to be called Tuner after the G&CU president becuase much of what is West Chicago was owned by him.
