I don't think Weezer is emo. I mean if I would think they were emo, I would probably think they're emo because of the lyrics that sound depressing sound emo but it wasn't emo. The only example I would use is Pinkerton, other than that the other weezer albums don't sound depressing. Correct me if im wrong.

The inclusion of "Gray Matter" is right on!

However, you skip too abruptly to Fugazi without mentioning the highly influential "Rites of Spring" and "Embrace", both of which essentially became one in Fugazi. Heck, I'd also mention "Soulside" - what an awesome band - unmatched emotion.

Jawbreaker was seminal... I'd also mention "Samiam", particularly their first few records were excellent and highly underrated.

I do agree with Your point of view. The term emo is the abbreviation of the word emotional which hasn't got to do with any genre of music. everyone can be emotional when they sing but you can't call them emo. It just ended up being a fashion. Emo is the worst fucking bullshit I've ever heard.

not true emo was origionally a subgenre of punk rock it expressed strong emotions instead of political views or rebelling. if someone asked what is emo, i would tell: embrace, moss icon, ritesofspring, jawbreaker, samiam, fuel, navio forge, hoover, native nod, suny day, texas is the reason. of cource there are many more but these are essential i think. drive like jehu, weezer, jimmy eat world etc. are NOT emo. vocal delivery, tunes and chords are are different. listen to music, not lyrics. great attempt and work with video though

i wonder if he was even there when these bands were playing. the only good thing about this attempt is that it references moss icon, even though he does it in the wrong place. no j-church, no split lip-chamberlain, no endpoint, no copper, no karate, a reference to fugazi but not embrace or rites of spring? no dag nasty? no nod to what impact the 7seconds soulforce revolution LP had? no mention of the specific members of these bands that come from noteable hardcore bands.... LACKING

i get what this guy is trying to accomplish, but not only is he off on his timeline, but it is borderline criminal to just ignore central aspects of certain emo scenes and their impact on the rest of the scene. for example, jimmyeatworld was a noteable band, but timelining jawbreaker before such bands a farside is criminal. he includes weezer, but not texas is the reason? seriously, he should've spoken with someone before putting his name on something like this.

Fugazi is actually post-hardcore.. or would be considered that by most. Them and Jawbreaker are hotly disputed. I would say they arent really emo but thats solely an opinion.

As for the video.. these bands are pretty much all post-emo...
