Oh yeah, and no other scene in the movies is as sad as when his mother dies. Not in All dogs goto heaven, or bambi, or the lion king, or titanic, or anything. It's just how he niievely asks his mother won't she be with him on the journey, like he just don't understand, and when he's saying mother at the end, aw jeez now i'm welling up again, i'm a bloke, i'm 26, damb you movie (shakes fist!). And they stay in that moment for a while afterwards. It all just makes the ending so much better.
i followed this until the tenth land before time and after that......well lets just say that i grew up but now...even now is till watch them in sequence stgarting from 1 to 10
I don't get why everyone's complaining about the sequels. I loved them when I was little. I guess I can't judge since I haven't seen any of them in years.
@nonchalantgamer i didnt think so, i liked them as well although the newer ones dont have that same touch anymore, it loses it more and more after each new movie they make based off of it.
I used to fecking LOVE this movie when i was little. I dont remember much from when i was a kid, but i remember this film perfectly :3and i love it to death!
When I watched this as a child, I didn't really pay attention to all the themes in the movie (before english classes, I bet many of you didn't either), but rewatching this at 18, it really is a well-put-together story.
This trailer is terrible.. its not some damn action movie its a tale about friendship and survival. The original soundtrack + intro pictures would been perfect but this DUDUDUDUDU BUBUUBMBOBOBOEMBOZE is.. bad
Good god...how many years ago was it that I was just a young boy, watching this over and over again. Hard to believe those years happened now, and it's almost sad to watch this movie now and remember those happier times (not that life is bad now, but hey, childhood is that one gift we only get once, so it's special). But it still warms my heart when I do watch it, as this is a priceless gem that will shine for many years to come.
I still have it on VHS! THIS IS THE MOST BEAUTIFUL ANIMATED MOVIE I'VE EVER SEEN IN MY LIFE! I cry every time i watch this & i'm not ashamed of that!
This is my childhood and i'll remember it forever!
Nothing of today's movies can even be compered whit this masterpiece!
This movie teaches kids of friendship & that life's hard, but even so, that they should keep going forward & never give up! To bad that they don't make such movies nowadays.....
i will always hate steven spielberg and george lucas. they edited nearly every favorite childhood movie of mine, and now i can't find the original ANYWHERE. it should be illegal to change a movie this epic. it was perfect the way it was.
@untillthat - True and the fight was even more gruesome than portrayed in the movie. Steven Spielberg and George Lucas had a number of scenes cut from the film because "they could've caused psychological damage to children." Don Bluth (the director) tried to keep the scenes in the film but couldn't. I wonder what we didn't see that was cut from the film.
@MegaCrazyRobot you have no idea what youve missed. seeing the uncut film only as a child, and not knowing about the cuts the DVD was for me like the movie fast forwarded, which in the end just left me thinking "that's it...?". I wish I could go back in time and save that tape but no it's lost forever. This cut version sucks balls.
I'm sorry, but Cera was such a bitch. Littlefoot's mother died to save her life and she disses her when they get over the mountain. If I were Littlefoot I'd just save Ducky, Spike, and Petrie and leave Cera to die.
im a 22 guy and i never watch cartoons but i have an urge to watch loads of disney films again! the lion king, the sword in the stone, sleeping beauty!! whats happening to me lol!
Great job! What music did you use? The first 30 seconds sounded like something from The Island (by Steve Jablonsky) and from 0:50 onwards it sounded like Immediate Music or Two Steps From Hell. Thanks
I am so pleased to say that I have the original film VHS and I wouldn't swap it for the world. All my kids have watched it and half of the grand children. What a shame they have changed it, the point of the film showed, that all different species and kind can live together. But like with the T Rex, not all were good. Although we want the children to be bought up without prejudice of creed or colour, we must warn also of the few that fall beyond the boundaries of Humanity and Nature. Seligor.
I remember watching this with my best friend, when we were children. Time sure does fly. I haven't watched it in years though. Maybe I should get it out and bring back some memories.
@sonrouge Actually, it became so popular that people wanted more. Plus, you can't say they grew up together and that's it. You gotta ask "What happens next?"
@MrTommybuddy I'd say 10. 11-13 were decent, but no strong memories there... 2, 3, 7, and 8 were my favorite sequels, but of course none were as good as the original. Of the sequels 7 actually has the third most memories (for me).
I still have this on VHS. It has that old Pizza Hut advertisement and everything. I also have it on DVD. Such an epic movie.
Gah this made me throw myself back into fond childhood memories. No movie today, even Pixar's best, could really give a nostalgic feel such as movies like this. Don't get me wrong, I love Pixar, but stuff like this, it really stays with you.
I wish they never made the sequals though, or the t.v. show. It just destroys the beauty this one created.
@RocketMeowth Ditto with the VHS. Bluth's 80s movies from NIMH to ALL DOGS have so much heart in them. I will say that yes, while all the sequels after this movie sucked hardcore, they'll never tarnish this movie's shine. Get anyone who has seen the sequels and make them watch the original, they'll have the same sentiment.
@BobbyRossRacing93, your right about that. Even though 11-13 were fine, it just felt like those 3 films were mostly related to TV series (and there were rumors that Universal Studios were going add the two new main dinosaurs from TV series: Chopper & Ruby in last original film but they decided to cut them out of the picture instead joining main cast) and I've watched the actual original series; it felt liked it ended there since Littlefoot found out that his father was ALIVE!
@Eohll I agree almost entirely. 1 - 10 just have so many good memories. In 11 - 13 they were great when they came out, but looking back they weren't that great (still good, but nothing spectacular. 7 or two was the best sequel, and the others 3-6 and 8-10 came close. 11 - 13 seem just like musical modern disney animation, but better. They have one message that the who movie is based on. Looking back on 7 i found about 20 messages. Anyway 1-10 had magic for me, 11-13 were just good.
i agree a 1988 style sequel would be awesome. If i heard the announcement of a sequel by the original makers I would explode because of the awesomeness.
this was one of the best storylines ever although it was dinosours. the sequels was pure crap though, hope they make a real one with real effort, but it's a foolish wish since how's it likely?

I like this movie trailer... all the others aren't as good... this one shows the drama and danger :D I like it! While the others show the innocence of the movie... D:
The original ending would have guarenteed there be no horrible sequels and series. As he Great Vally didn't exist and they were never supposed to make it... tragic ending, yes. But I think I would prefer it. :/
When i first saw this movie i almost cried. No other animated movie has ever made me do that. I still think it's a masterpiece for all ages. But the sequels are pointless.
I grew up on this movie and Gargoyles...two things well ahead of their time. I'm glad I come from a generation that allowed me to view such great things. These days, kids...well, lets just say I feel sorry for my 9 and 13 year old brothers...they'll never get what we were allowed to have. :(
Well, you're a bit young to have grown up on a movie that is quite literally older than me buy about a full year....but hey, who am I to talk. In all earnestness, good for you. Glad to see the younger generation has gotten a taste of the good stuff.
Now try out season one of Gargoyles....I dare you =P
@AndrewDeLong funny story about me and this movie, i was a very happy child, but when i was 3, it came on tv, and it was at the end, so i bawled, and my dad couldnt make me stop, until he bought the movie for me, i cried for 3 days
The new Land Before Time Movies are pathetic. The first movie has more violence in it, it wasn't overly censored like they are now. I'm not saying kids should be exposed to blood and gore, but people should stop trying to convince kids that death and violence don't happen.
That's true! Fewer people really acknowledge this movie's greatness because of the rest of the franchise! Several people havn't even seen this one, so, naturally they think the series is stupid and overrated...
To add to your Oh so true statement, only a true fan of this series would even think what you just said. The problem with this "franchise" is in 2 parts. Part 1) It's a franchise! I mean really, they should have left well enough alone! 2) Spielberg & Lucas didn't work on the rest of em at all! They only worked on this one, & knew to leave well enough alone! Had they worked on the other ones though, to a point, they might have turned out something halfway decent...alas...they knew better.
When I said "they" I just ment universal studios and whoever they got working on the movie. I am well aware that Stephan Spieldberg is incapable of producing such bad movies. Although Lucas, on the other hand, IS capable, I still don't think the sequals are his style.
And yeah, I probably missused the term franchise, I just meant the series of movies. Thanks for correcting me :)
man has it really been seven years? i remember the last time i saw this :) great memories. i wish i could go back and watch this and jurassic park for the first time again.
this is insanely cool! I keep re-watching it, and (like others have said) keep getting insane goosebumps! The Land Before Time is BRUTAL (fantastic in all ways)
Oh my god me too... Watching brings back sooo many lovely but sad memories. I'm only 16, but it feels like a lifetime ago that I was a little 4 year old boy, sitting in my old home watching these on my small vhs :)
Not just ''Land Before Time'' but ''Snow White'' too, and ''Bambi'', not forgetting ''Jungle Book'' which I watched at about 2y old. I know this may seem strange but I acctually cry just watching small bit of these films.... It's just so emotional.. not in a cheesy way, but genuinely
Ok, the land before time was a great movie (with a NEVER-ENDING VIOLEN SONG IN THE BACKGROUND!!!) much better than the crap they show these days. So I can't be honestly surprised that somebody was able to make it look like an epic lord-of-the-rings-style movie. I mean, a real challage would be to find scenes from today's under-5 movies and come up with an epic trailor.
ill admin im a 26 year old married man and i still got sad when i remembered littlefoots mom dying and the great adventure they went out on. this was one of the absolute very best childhood movies i can remember.
As an inspiring animator-to-be I absolutely loved this movie when I was little, not so much the "sequels" but still loved this movie. I wish he would of made more movies like this =/
It's very, very professionally edited, but I don't think it represented the spirit of the movie. Bluth's films tend to be a bit mysterious in nature, and his approach is to provide both "cutsiness" and horror/darkness to his films, the latter to give the cutsiness more value. IMO the music didn't reflect this.
The LBT music is dramatic anyway. Search for "land before time soundtrack" and find the one ending in "sharptooth strikes and earthquake" and "finding the great valley 2". Use them:)
This movie was so epic

Dinosaurs, James Horner, early Don Bluth, George Lucas AND Stephen Spielberg?!!! This movie were destined to become epic right from the start.
Didn´t like the trailer though, too intense, as said by Mcperez17. Should have gone with Horner´s main theme instead.

@AndrewDeLong funny story about me and this movie, i was a very happy child, but when i was 3, it came on tv, and it was at the end, so i bawled, and my dad couldnt make me stop, until he bought the movie for me, i cried for 3 days

@Dsport1213
Well, you cried for something great! I applaud you for that.

The new Land Before Time Movies are pathetic. The first movie has more violence in it, it wasn't overly censored like they are now. I'm not saying kids should be exposed to blood and gore, but people should stop trying to convince kids that death and violence don't happen.
fubukifangirl 2 years ago 8
I believe I got up to about number 7 in the sequels. I remember liking all of them as a kid, but this one was just so wonderful.
Unfortunately under appreciated.
ginkgonk122 2 years ago 3
I'm not saying i did'nt love every second of EVERY Land Before Time when i was younger,
but i think this one would stand out more as an epic classic in cinima if there was never any sequels..
EddieTuite 2 years ago
Its true, even though the first film was so inconceivably good, the sequels are such rubbish that they kind of taint the memory of it.
invanorm 2 years ago 4
That's true! Fewer people really acknowledge this movie's greatness because of the rest of the franchise! Several people havn't even seen this one, so, naturally they think the series is stupid and overrated...
Locke217 2 years ago 2
To add to your Oh so true statement, only a true fan of this series would even think what you just said. The problem with this "franchise" is in 2 parts. Part 1) It's a franchise! I mean really, they should have left well enough alone! 2) Spielberg & Lucas didn't work on the rest of em at all! They only worked on this one, & knew to leave well enough alone! Had they worked on the other ones though, to a point, they might have turned out something halfway decent...alas...they knew better.
AndrewDeLong 2 years ago 2
When I said "they" I just ment universal studios and whoever they got working on the movie. I am well aware that Stephan Spieldberg is incapable of producing such bad movies. Although Lucas, on the other hand, IS capable, I still don't think the sequals are his style.
And yeah, I probably missused the term franchise, I just meant the series of movies. Thanks for correcting me :)
Locke217 2 years ago
No problem. Point is, I agree with the basics of what you said, which means that more or less, we're on the same page.

This was one the best movies for kids :] I tear up just thinking about it

Oh my god me too... Watching brings back sooo many lovely but sad memories. I'm only 16, but it feels like a lifetime ago that I was a little 4 year old boy, sitting in my old home watching these on my small vhs :)
Not just ''Land Before Time'' but ''Snow White'' too, and ''Bambi'', not forgetting ''Jungle Book'' which I watched at about 2y old. I know this may seem strange but I acctually cry just watching small bit of these films.... It's just so emotional.. not in a cheesy way, but genuinely
MariusSemeonOrtiz 2 years ago 6
yeah, i definitely know what you mean!
my parents wouldn't let me watch bambi after the first two times i saw it when i was a kid because i was ridiculously sad for days after =]

I remember watching this when I was really young and I really enjoyed it. Does anyone knows where I can watch the movie on here....
dkrusen 3 years ago 4
It's very, very professionally edited, but I don't think it represented the spirit of the movie. Bluth's films tend to be a bit mysterious in nature, and his approach is to provide both "cutsiness" and horror/darkness to his films, the latter to give the cutsiness more value. IMO the music didn't reflect this.
The LBT music is dramatic anyway. Search for "land before time soundtrack" and find the one ending in "sharptooth strikes and earthquake" and "finding the great valley 2". Use them:)
