Dumbass people still think using triggers is cheating. how? explain how? all they do is turn the sound of the beater hitting the head into a clicking noise right? so how the fuck is that cheating? im so tired of hearing that.
@BlastBeatsful Actually, depending on the type of trigger it can make every hit sound the same volume regardless of how hard the beater hits the kick (unless they're velocity-sensitive triggers). This would technically be considered cheating as power does play a role in the sound that gets produced. So the faster you play = less power you have. I don't know what triggers JL uses. You can't 'cheat' technique, if that's what you're getting at. JL certainly has plenty of that.
@BlastBeatsful And, I'm not trying to start a whole argument with you or anything. I totally am of the opinion that triggers are basically necessary in a live setting, at least with Death Metal bands and the like, so that the drums can cut through everything else going on. I'm just saying how triggers could be considered cheating. I honestly don't care if people want to use them. If you can play, you can play, you know?
@BlastBeatsful Anytime. If you haven't already, you may want to check out Marco Pitruzzella. He plays in Anomalous (awesome band) now. He's a fucking beast, too
In the sense that you can't perform doubles or heel toe with the same power as a single stroke, yes, it is "cheating". But not cheating in a negative sense, cheating to take advantage of an innovative technique. Regardless, it sounds fucking awesome.
@bentheiburg thank you for saying that. i dont get why some people get butt hurt over people using triggers. it sounds fucking tasty. why can't metal fans unite, thats what i want to know.
There isn't a single member of Origin who doesn't kick arse at what they play. Saw 'em play here in Melbourne last week, all of them were amazing (Although Mike was the only one I could see from my vantage point). His fingers flew across the fret board like nobody's business... As for Longstreth... well, no comment required. 0=)
geez, i used to pride myself on my double bass work but that doesnt even sound like its a human playing it. just proof that theres always someone out there that can put you to shame at anything. pretty amazing
saying "its not heel-toe its straight double strokes" is retarded. Heel-toe is a technique to play straight double strokes, as is the slide technique, as are a shitload of other ways.
john is a machine people dont realize just how good he is, people say that hes not so good, cuz all hes good at is blast beats and going really fast, thats because hes in a technical death metal band, but he has to keep up his double the ENTIRE SONG its amazing its a real mind fuck to think how someone can do this for an entire show
Depends how you define technical. I don't think only playing single strokes at super speed is extremly technical. Just endurance as you said I guess.... to me techinal is cordination , polyrythmic stuff and ofcourse speed and precision.
@SuicidalFurby so true if they turned up the bass a little bit i think their music would b so much more powerful! i look up to longstreth being a drummer myself, his stamina for double bass is amazing!
