Rocky, it depends on the kind of ant you get. Example Citronella ants (orange and smell like citronella) are blind and do not do much. Black Velvet Ants are much more active. All ants just dig and eat without a queen but some are more active than others.

if they are like the gel one i have its free ants every 3 months for life and no average ones are not any different but 1.they have to be from the same colony or else they will fight and

2.have fun getting all those ants into a container

I got the Ant Farm with Blue Gel. But I think it is too dry. I dug up some ants, I put it in the farm and they do not dig. Dig it? I think the Gel is too dry, because, I tried to poke it and it was hard.

well they have no queen or anything and it hard for them to dig with soil because usually they dig in like hard mud. thats why you have to buy it online

Nah, soil is fine, they need a queen and also you need to keep something dark wrapped around the sides of the farm when you aren't looking at them, otherwise digging doesn't offer them anything(ie darkness).

The queens are the giant ants that appear every year, collect the ones that have cut their wings off that means they are fertile, also don't put her with other ants(they will kill her), just on her own and she will start her own colony(with food water etc) :)

what i mean is, after a certain time, the gel will turn into dirt because it will become dead ants, but lots of them. hopefully there will be organic matter in the decompost for little plants to grow.

The blue stuff is a gel that they use instead of dirt. The ants can eat the gel, so you don't have to feed or water them. Also, the gel makes it a lot easier to watch what the ants are doing. It's pretty cool. I got the kit at Spencer's

the blue stuff is agar, dissolved in water and coloured with some non hazardous dye. anyway, its better to take red than blue, if you mix it up on your own, there also vitamins in there, and some other things

Nah, I don't think there's a queen. They're just the regular ants that came when my dad ordered from the kit. and they seem HUGE on this video, but they're pretty normal size i think. :) Thanks for enjoying
