yeah. I don't know where but i once heared some place that it takes a genius to write a genius. now this right here isn't about a genius or anything like that but, in compareson to 99% of all the TV shows out there, writing this, using someone like blind W.J. as a reference, to make an argument helping a "dead" topic, edited this particular way ( for those who know the episode). I guess what I'm trying to say is that Sorkin may not be a Genius, but with the help of his Staff he came close a lot.
I'm all for space exploration and going to mars, AFTER we don't have people sleeping with wet newspapers as blankets, they should at LEAST be dry army surplus blankets.
never heard about this show until a few minutes ago... i'm a great blues lover, i had that song's title in mind and opened youtube for listen to it. i saw a very well rated guy's quote to this show... n this scene is freakin awesome!!!!! is this always like this????' :O
Not since JFK has a member of the Democrat Party wanted to do something bold like explore space. I doubt one ever will again. No imagination or want of challenge on the left. Hard to believe Josh is now Mayor of Chicago.

Not to nitpick, but... His music left the solar system via radio waves earlier. There's no reason to think analog records would be more recognizable to alien life than electromagnetic waves.

First, any electromagnetic waves carrying this guy's music would be indistinguishable from background noise by the time they made it to any plausible location of sentient non-terrestrial life.
Second, analog records are literally what you get when applying sound pressure to a malleable surface by means of a needle or similar object. Any civilization concerned with the recording of sound should recognize a physical reproduction of sound waves, having themselves used largely identical technology.

I always hated Josh-such an arrogant liberal. Also always wanted to tell him senior staff carry briefcases and not backpacks. But this is spot on--the USA needs to go to Mars if no other reason to challenge this country to do the hard things again.

Next time someone asks you why you miss this show so much, just sit them down and show them this scene - You won't have to say anything else...

This episode closes with Josh looking up at the stars, to the strains of 'Dark Was the Night...' Primeval.

they send a record with its music not sound waves.... and the record is protected by special materials so that it could last for a long time

@facetznewjersey Any time someone says, "not to nitpick, but..." they then proceed, inevitably, to nitpick. It's like saying, "No offense, but..."
