  • XfuckyouX24 How about getting a life? Isn't it past your bedtime anyway?

  • I'm sorry but i can't be politically correct and state she was attractive. Her voice was very thick like a drag queen's. She was too extreme and unbalanced the group. Two girls, one sexy and the other with a body shape of a meatball with two spaghetti noodle legs. If that wasn't bad enough, she constantly danced the "mash potato" (how ironic) calling attention to herself, further damaging the groups rep. She had no right to dance the way she did . . .sorry but it had to be said

  • @noxomox Wow, I can see already how much of a low life asshole you are, coming on YouTube making fun of someone that is passed away, and will be 100x the person you ever will. Why wouldn't people like her?? She was a good hearted person, that sung about peace and love, and your just the complete opposite. Man, I bet you're mother is proud. And just so you know, SHE HAD AN AMAZING VOICE! Gawd, I cant believe I'm stooping this low to talk to trash like you. Fuck off.

  • @XfuckyouX24 I'm not making fun of her. Just stating the facts m'am. Its sad when anyone dies but she do it to herself by overeating, clogging her arteries with ham sandwich heros and who knows how much dressing was on those samwiches . . . Can't believe a normal person would get so riled up . . . was she your sex slave or sometin? just sayin . . .

  • @noxomox Wow your a fucking pig, I feel sorry for you.

  • only 2 1/2 years together? .... seems longer to me ..... but ... she should know ..... put out some super amazing songs and will always be listened by me. if you're young, try and listen to all their work ..... you'll enjoy them, as i do!

  • The mamas and papa would have been more successful if they didn't have the really obese girl singing with them. She even ruined their careers by chokin on a ham sandwich for cryin out loud . . . .

  • @noxomox OMG YOU ARE SO FUCKING DUMB!!! Dumb fuck!! If it WASNT for that obese chick, THEY WOULDNT OF BEEN FAMOUS! Shes the whole REASON why they sounded good. AND SHE DIDNT CHOKE ON A FUCKING SANDWHICH!! She had heart failure! AND BELIEVE IT OR NOT MICHELLE WAS A BIG TIME WHORE!! And dumbass Cass was the most famous out of all of them when she went and pursued her solo career! EVERYONE LOVED HER!! HOW DARE YOU MAKE FUN OF SOMEONE WHO IS PASSED AWAY! GAWD I BET UR PARENTS ARE PROUD U BASTARD!

  • @XfuckyouX24 Everyone loved her??? you took a poll? wow, i'm impressed . . . . and here i was thinking all this crap you typed out was the rantings of imbecilic mental patient . . .

  • @noxomox trolol go back to your cave of ignorance little troll

  • @crownoftrees sorry child, others may have a different opinion

  • R.I.P. Cass Elliot, John Phillips and Denny Doherty

  • I am from BRASIL they are the best.rita lee pleaseeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

  • it would be horrible to be fat. makes you sweat profusely and smell bad. phew!

  • What a magical time to be alive. Sadly, I was born in '86.

  • Awesome presentation!! Thanx!!

  • Vastly underated!!

  • 40 years from now, people are going to say "That was real music 40 years ago not like today's music"

  • I agree with you tehsoul. It's awful hard to find much useful today out there. This stuff just wasnt so over produced, cut and ripped up, ripped off.. That makes a huge a difference.

  • Cass definitely shows that a large woman can have plenty of sex appeal

  • @sicamousman oh yes, right there with ya

  • I remember in the documentary of Michelle complaining about how John would make them record their vocals over and over til all hours of the night to get that perfect harmony. He had a name for it like it was a 5th person in the band. Does anybody know the name he used?

  • yes, Michelle was every young man fantasy then. The perfect female bed mate.

  • I love sixties,

  • of all the bands past i still have not heard there equal,4singers who all had their own flavor to add.cass still to this day can make the hairs on my neck stand on end,no matter how many times i listen she just has a magic charm to her,the 4 together given they were 2.5years together still sell+still have fans new and old.good things are not meant to last,it thats true it just explains how big an impact they had on the world of music.loved their music as a child and 30odd years later sill do..

  • уржаться!

  • Michelle still looks good :)

  • They were well written songs.

  • It's true what Michelle said at 3:42. It inspires musicians of our own age. I myself covered "safe in my garden" (with Angel Gabrielle filling in for the female vocals). That's my contribution of keeping the Mamas & the Papas alive.

  • Just a quick Message to The Idiot trianglelinecircle.

    Your a Moron!!!

You must have been standing behind the door when they were giving Brains Out !!!

  • Just all wonderful talents

Thanks John for the Songs !!

  • Michelle was the most gorgeous hippie girl of all time.

  • @anywayokay I think she looks better 40 years later, back then she was an ugly duckling

  • @Pioter80 what? She looked so good. You must like older women.

  • @anywayokay

Did you know she was married to Dennis Hopper for a week or so?... crazy times back then

  • @anywayokay not saying she's not, just adding... check for "rita lee" on google, but check the old pictures out only, of course.

  • @anywayokay yeah, wasn't she? Pure candy for the eyes unlike the other one . . . i think Michelle sang all the songs and Cass just lip synced it. I can't imagine human sounds coming out through Cass's bovine incisors . .

  • I know the secret why their music is selling for the last 40+ years. The secret is what they made was REAL MUSIC! Not like the music done today (not gonna say names you know them all)

Today is really hard to find good new musics :/

  • @TehSoulZero her and maybe Grace Slick if you still count her as a hippie before the Starship days

  • @TehSoulZero not at all, just look for mike patton, job done

  • @Polybun who's that? i didn't seen him twice... never heard of mike patton..

  • @TehSoulZero You can't turn on the radio, or go see a movie without hearing him.

  • @Polybun err.. I can... I live in portugal, radio here sucks... That's why I always flip when I hear FNM on the radio x)

  • @TehSoulZero faith no more was only ONE of his many projects, and not one of the better ones either.

  • @TehSoulZero Check out a band called The brian Jonestown massacre you will thank me! :)

  • @TehSoulZero very true!!

  • video clips were funny but music was 1.000.000 more times better than nowadays ... I want a time vehicle to go to the 60's/early 70's ... :P

  • 40's years ago video clips are alot different from the ones of today o.O

  • the fat one died by choking on a ham sandwich lol no jok

  • @trianglelinecircle actually she didnt, but youre a scumbag for trying to make fun of someone for dying

  • i wishni could go back to that place in time.....................please just one more time...

  • michelle was beatifull ♥_♥

  • God bless Mama Cass Elliot

  • The slurp of the day

  • Michelle Phillips is still a looker!

  • lol i bet they unplug the fat chicks mic because they dont like her

  • @surfjat15 "The fat chick" just happened to be the best singer in the group moron! LOL! Don't comment if you don't know what you are talking about!

  • @Dave897456 I bought their C.D. in 1991 and still have it. Their songs are priceless / timeless. If their popularity waned, it only proves one thing: "Many people don't have good taste in music."

  • @surfjat15 why wouldnt they not like her shes great

  • @kypoppa you know why she left the group?

  • I love the different outfits!! If you guys are looking for some original acoustic stuff, check out my channel! If not, then.. don't.

  • forever dreaming what a band

  • Heard what was left of this group at a state fair long after they'd recorded their songs. Spanky of Our Gang took Mama Cass's place. And Papa John was there. He passed away a few weeks after that.

Can someone say what orchestra backed them up? Their great songs were attributed to studio mixes, of course.

  • @Glinkaism1 Studio mixes is to a band, what cosmetics is to supermodels.

  • @Helivz Hey, well said. :) I dug deeper and found a web site that has the studio mix band members broken out and Bone Howe was the mix engineer for lots of those great vocal groups. Nowadays, it's just "100 channels of mono" and vocals are buried in the NON-mix, as another big name sound engineer friend of mine quipped :)

I went into detail on this in another room. But simply, to have the vocals stand out and hear every word while keeping the instruments seemingly out in front, is astounding.

  • @Glinkaism1 ..bones howe was responsible for the VENTURES sound ar one time ..

  • @mlkemper Thanks for the info.

  • Fan LLakers...from Portugal

  • Who ever is doing the over voice on this has a "real" way with words. Mama Cass, a "stallion"? How "unconsciously" demeaning can this jerkwater get when describing one of the great vocalists in rock music.

  • @RBTgoombah7: Barry McGuire was Cass' very good friend. His comment was meant as a complement to her wonderful voice, showmanship, and bravado!

  • no matter their personal problems, their music was great and a large part of my growing years...

  • These people I mean in two years they put out some of the most memorable songs and they had a unique style, didnt copy anyone. I love their music.

  • @carlosbashuertas

jaja, you did hear the part where they talked abouit the beatles right?

  • I guess the MORONS on here do not have anything good to say about anyone!

  • thank you

  • If Mama Cass had given her ham sandwich to Karen Carpenter, they might both still be alive today.

  • @ghallett68 :Mama Cass died of a heart attack. She did not choke on a sandwich. Check it out.

  • @packratjimnm THEY SAID THAT TO COVER UP THAT SHE WAS ON DRUGS LOU ADLER IS A CROOK HE STOLE SAM COOKES SONGS JUST ASK BOBBY WOMACK HE WILL TELL YOU

  • that stupet

  • I love you Mamas and the Papas...

  • Mama Cass described as a "stallion"? How boorish and misogynistically antifeminist can you be? Mama Cass was an integral part of a great singing group, a woman who deserves only the highest respect for having been so. This should never be forgotten.

  • 1:31 That's one kick-ass hat.

  • didnt the fat girl choke on a tuna sandwich?

  • @municsscareme no Mama Cass Elliott choked on one of Rosie O'Donnolls used Kotex's after an all night Cocaine and Heroin binge.

  • @ShamWasBetter LMAO THIS MADE ME PISS MYSELF!

  • @municsscareme : No, she had a heart attack.

  • WHO THE FUCK WEARS A FUR HAT IN A CALIFORNIAN RECORDING STUDIO

  • -For the record, (Hip-Hop) loves The Mama's & The Papas! Thanks for the inspiration.

  • I suppose television was much less important in deciding who bought records in those days. She really does look like that bloke off Little Britain, doesn't she? Overall, by our standards they'd be backing singers at most. Still, I suppose that in forty years' time people in 2051 will look at videos from today and think how ugly and tasteless we look too.

  • Brilliant stuff .........

  • I`m italian and I really like these songs.

    Masterpieces!

    What a great, delicate band.

  • The only religion that uses God's name Jehovah and tells of a resurrection of loved ones in an incoming new world order where sadness is finally gone. Thank you

  • @KnowJehovah God's name that was invented by a German?

  • I wasn't even born.... but to think that today I have to put up with Lady Cunt Gaga and Justing Littlefab Bieber.... I finally understand what Lennon meant by "The Dream is Over...."....

  • omg michelle is sooo beautifull !!!

  • doesn't one of the singers look like Ringo Starr?

  • I loved the group, but it was almost ruined my Michelle's sexcapades which I won't go into out of respect for the ones that are no longer here. John, Cass and Denny are gone. The songs were great, and I have them. The MaMa's and the PaPa's live on in my memory.

  • When I hear this I get tears in my eyes thinking of time gone by!

They were great together as one. Sir David

  • Denny is gone now. Michelle is the only surviving memeber of the MaMas and Papas.

  • 111 people don't like Monday mornings.

  • The fat one reminds me of Jimmy Osmond when he was a kid.

  • John Phillips must've had a really bad childhood to have become the adult he did in his private life.

  • I loved the Mamas and Papas . I used to sit in front of the big console stereo as a kid , before i learned to play guitar and pretend i was playing along with a tenis racket., broom etc (smiles) it was a special time in life and music was magical and it still is!

its just a little harder to find the good stuff but its around. where would you be if there wasn't any music? what a terrible thought.

  • @bluesmann8 Hahaha Yes, my dad used to have that big console stereo, back in 60's. Great memories !

California Dream was and is my favourite M&P's song.

  • michelle...my belle

  • whats the name of the first song????

  • @gianniskg It's "monday monday"

  • @nextwwediva26 thank you !!!!

  • How in the world could papa John Phillips get sexualy arroused from MacKenzie Phillips?Only Mick Jagger and her Gynocologist would find anything attractive about her.

  • Cass passed due to heart failure, myth is she died eating a ham sandwich.

    John passed from cancer.

  • their harmonies were so rich and beautiful

  • How did cads and John go?

  • i always liked the song California dreamin"

  • I've never been to California but this band especially remind me of the joy and forever-ness of a hazy, lost and safe world in the summer we all became 17 in any place, any language.

I like to watch them move, natural is sensual..

This morning, I envied no one, but to have seen Mamas and Papas on a good night, singing this song at a gig in Berkely,1966 . . . priceless.

  • Ull lla la :) magnificent

  • maravillosos,,,,,,,

  • timeless psychedelic.

  • Along with Marylin McCoo, Michelle Phillips was my dream girl when I was a kid. She was, and still is, naturally beautiful.

  • The ocean rolls up from the deep creeping up to meet my feet California what a place to be heres were my soul was free To do what you say - simply dream along this way - Grade school dreaming Remember the day you first dreamt – the thing you wanted most For me that dream was California’s coast - Can you smell the surf can you hear it roar - Oh I must stop now it only makes me want to go back for more Till then this great tune will be mine And I know the California sun will always shine.
  • LOOK @ those side-Burns man?

  • Imagine only two years and they became so big. I think if they would of continued it would of been insane how big they would of becomed

  • I just remember listening to them and kicking back, drinking a cool one, and heading out from Base Camp the next day for another long week or month in the boonies. I really didn't give a s__t if Momma was fat, Michelle was a slut, or anyone was a perv. Just enjoyed the tunes and lived for the day. Worked for me but I guess not everyone.

  • watch?v=46CNp89_52Y

  • Who says fat people can't do anything? screw skinny!!!

  • THREE OF THEM ARE GONE NOW SO LETS JUST ALL ENJOY THEIR WONDERFUL MUSIC AND STOP TALKING "TRASH" ABOUT THEM!!

  • lived in Co roan Del Mar overlooking the pacific looking out at Catalina Island, ran every morning me and my golden down along Margarette to the beach we'd head down Popeye st. to Ocean Blvd, with salty air in our lungs, down the ramp at Corona Beach along the beach and back up that long hill winding our way through CDM ...Yea i can were this great song Dreaming about California came from

  • FLOWER POWER:FREE SEX, DOPE ,AND ANARCHY SUMMARIZE THE 60'S :)

  • I'M FUCKIN TRIPPIN LISTENING TO THIS SOMG OMFG ITS AMAZING!!!

  • They should do a reunion tour with Michelle. She can sing all of the harmony parts without any lead vocal. Nostalgia is killing pop music. The Mamas & The Papas had a couple of good songs, released one really good album, but were creatively spent by 1968. Their best song is Straight Shooter. Their worst is that insipidly overwrought showstopper, Dream A Little Dream Of Me.

  • @guinnesstrail Only ONE good album?! Really?! I love ALL FOUR of their albums from beginning to end. Creatively spent by 1968? "The Papas and The Mamas" is one of their most creative albums production wise and the track "Mansions" off that album has to be one of their greatest creations EVER. Have you ever HEARD that one? The lyrics and harmonies will blow your mind more that the "hits" will.

  • I really wish that nowadays people could be accepted for what they are and the music they produce; not the way they look. This is exactly why I love this band so much!

  • did they ever sing live?

  • Very few times in my life have I ever seen a look of absolute love and devotion in someone's eyes, and that black and white shot of Cass looking up at her man is something I will always cherish. A great voice has to come from somewhere, and in that one shot we can see a glimpse of her soul. It's a rare thing, that kind of love, more precious than words can express.

  • What a wonderful combination these people made. I loved their music. Mama's voice was angelic. John was a great writer.

  • California Dreamin' is in my top 10 songs of all time.

  • This fascinating documentary completely glosses over the fact that Papa John Phillips was already married with a family when Michelle saw him perform and decided to scoop him up. Wisely, she married a plastic surgeon in recent years and looked exactly the same when I saw her appear in conjunction with this special on PBS several years ago as she did when she sang with the group. She looked much younger, in fact, than in some of the clips that had been shot fifteen or twenty years earlier.

  • i don't rember when i first heard the mamas and the paps, but what i do rember is that the very first song of there's that i heard was california dreamin and believe me when i tell you that i was on a quest to find a copy of that song and when i finaly did, i play'd it over and over, i couldn't believe how great there music realy was and how a song like this get stuck in ones head and stay there for years to come. for me at the age of 43 i still very much enjoy there music.

  • Unforgettable Mamas & Papas! Unforgettable, forever.

  • Good sounds indeed

  • nicely done...some great, great songs.

  • These guys are great!!!

  • awesome thanks for sharing!

  • The Mamas&/The Papas represent a time in music and in world events that has reflections on Vietnam and those who served there. We adopted them as our image of Home and their songs just filled us with a desire to get back into the world that we had left. Even after 40 plus years, when I hear their songs it brings back both the good and bad times of that era. They have become legends to many Vietnam Vets as were others who came to entertain us and bring us a piece of home. Ron

  • This song reminds me of everything and absolutely nothing. Does that make since?I mean listen to the words they say nothing about anything.. But it is so beautifully done.

  • amazing. i first heard the mamas and papas on my parents music albums... fell in love immediately with Cass Elliot as a four year old!

  • Great vid clip - love it!

  • Great music that will be admired long after all of their lifetimes. Definitely a folk legacy of iconic porpotion. Their personal lives or physical statures have nothing to do with the music.

  • Two of them have left us, right?

This was a huge country plague then

They really was clever in that very special way they harmonized their songs

    ed

    w w w eddy nu

  • @onlinelondon In fact only Michele Philips is living!

  • Thank You , for this beautifull memorymoments, brougt back a lot of sentimental feelings

  • what alot of shit negative talk in here about this group!! what is the problem folks?? cant u just appreciate that they had a great sound. instead of talking about incest, michelle is a slut,. case is fat and so on and so on-- GOOD GRIEF--get a life!!

  • @femsual -- I agree with you.

  • @femsual goes with the territory....get past it!
