Hey guys, David is just joking. Even though he always tell this story, he is not serious and if you listen to his past interviews, he is very witty and likes to add light humor. Of course Charice can speak english, that's how David and Oprah discovered her, singing "I Have Nothing" and "I Will Always Love You".
Charice, money is tight but I will try to see you here in LA. It will be a nice bday gift for myself (11/04).

@PersianCatUSA, you have to remember that DF is marketing Charice. He is trying to prep the world for her. He wants to deflect future criticisms. If her English is a work in progress then, even if she sometimes is grammatically wrong, then it is excusable, and actually is admirable, because she learns fast and is improving quite well.

i think what david meant was when he first met charice, maybe charice was quite hesitant to speak english, maybe just speaking in phrases and not complete sentences and probably quite difficult for her to express her fully plus she was also very timid then so it might be when DF first met her, she would rarely speak and now charice is improving a lot with her english and even in her interviews you would notice that she's more comfortable now.

Why now this story about her "not speaking a word of english." ? There's no upside to telling this apocryphal anecdote and the sooner they stop telling this story the better.

The real story behind this is that Charice and the mom was so timid the first time they came in, both were so silent in awe in a private jet attending celine dions concert in Las Vegas. I guess not saying anything the whole trip and the whole night gives one the whole impression.
