Hi ZahiraBellyDancer, have you considered doing online lessons? I would so love it if you would....I have been trying to get just the basic 123 beat and after watching 2 of your videos with some practice am sounding like I am actually "playing". If not online lessons I hope you are going to make a DVD...?

Hi! Is there a place I can go to actually "do" the online lessons? I know that for the Chifte and even 9/8 rhythms you can 'think' 1-2-3, but it's easiest if you put your mindset to "doum", "tec", "ta", "teca" (te-ca) as opposed to numbers. Basic gallop - don't think of it as 1-2-3. Think of it as:

"Te-ca Doum"

te-ca doum, te-ca doum, te-ca doum......

Switch hands as you gallop along; doesn't matter which you start with. :D

The Chifti rhythm, to explain in "doum/tec talk" is a mouthful. The "shave and a haircut" was th easiest for me to learn and understand as well. :D
