It is not being taken down. It is being widened to three 11-foot lanes in each direction with an eight-foot outside shoulder and a two-foot inside shoulder. The rail bridge will stay exactly where it is. You will be able to see it!
if y'all can just c how it look now ! #smh , i live in bridge city . It look differnt now . ! its almost compelet iguess .! But we got the new rode and the lights up and wrkin . now they just have to do the bridge where he light are now . on the eastbank ,. they just started over there .But the bridge city side , almost done .
What gets me is the Belle Chasse tunnel and bridge. Why is there only one bridge in that area for all the residents and business there? Traffic is always stopped because of passing boats or they close the bridge to allow trucks with heavy truck loads to come on through. Damn they didn't think alot of things through when designing these bridgeways.
nicely rendered animation, bet that took a minute or two... never really needed to go over the huey p very often, took a wrong turn and ended up havin to go all the way over and back once tho, other than that just to eat at my friends favorite chinese restaraunt
I used to use that bridge all the time growing up in Bridge City.B/c Katrina I only visit every so often, and now I get nervouse when I have to cross it.
i stay in Bridqe City..They have the side (When U Go On The Bridqe)..Up. But They
about 2 qet ready to do the side (when they come down).. But the part they really qotta do is when its over the river. &nd the side when they in the east bank.
I take the Huey P when necessary but I have to have total concentration on the curve going down and when people pass so close. When the new bridge is finished, this will be a great alternative getting out to Metairie...I'm sure to use it a lot more than the Crescent City Connection/I-10.
I drove on this bridge yesterday. Hadn't been to NO in years(a few years before the hurricane) and decided to sight see...you know take a different route to Algiers to kill some time. I got on this bridge.....I was on pins and needles the whole way across. LOL Widening it would be a good idea to say the least.
I kind of think of the Huey as a love/hate relationship. I marvel at the structure, the immense of this bridge...from a distance as well as close up.
Yet, I am scared as you-know-what- to drive it; not so much my personal truck, but definitely my work truck.
Nevertheless, the times I do use this bridge, I always make the Sign of the Cross just as I get on and off; I don't want to have any traffic accidents on this monster.
I'm looking forward to completion in 2013...countdown's on.
This should have been done years ago. I live in the New Orleans area, and I hate that bridge. If I'm heading to the West Bank from JP, there are times that I would rather make the trip all the way around to the CCC than deal with the traffic on Clearview and that bridge with 2' wide lanes.
Just one question: Why not make a direct connection to Earheart and I-10?
Wonder what will happen to the old Huey P Long Bridge bcuz it's still there even though the new one is being built right next to it.

I agree with Groisles there should have been a direct connection to the unused Earhart xpy.

Glad its getting expanded but I'm actually going to miss the old huey p long.
As horrible as it is, it just makes it that much more special.

That's a great looking animation. I'm looking forward to the widening b/c as it stands now the Huey P scares me.

I have no problem with this bridge. I drive it everyday pulling my trailer.

Good we can still see the trains while driving by. I always had a weird feeling while driving on that bridge, like any moment it can collapse

You should have the ULTIMATE Huey experience- stopped in heavy traffic on top of the bridge with a train coming- the bridge shakes!

Sounds like fun. LOL

you got it kinda wrong, stop in heavy traffic going up the bridge in the rain with a stick shift
