your starter is not sitting flush, so it wont send a true spin out. will be off centerd. same prob that i had. all i done was put a pool cue tip over the starters shaft nd sits in starter hole on the gearbox.
Pull your f-in motor out and see if you can crank it by hand. If not it's your motor not your starter. If it turns over fairly easy and has good compression it's more than likely your starter.
Hi ozzymanofky the fault you have is the bronze bush for the starter motor is badly worn!
This runs on the nose bearing on the end of the motor and is fitted into the bell housing.
you need to remove what is left of the orginal bush and fit a new one. make shure you put a small ammount of lube on it before refiting the motor.Hope this helps Neil
I've had this problem, i had to change the starter. you probably have a short volted starter, try a higher voltage starter, which are found in auto stick VWs.
even though the battery seems good it might even have 12 to 14 volts it sounds like it might not have enough amps.you should check it with a amp draw gauge it will also tell you the condition of the battery.i had the same problem with a couple batteries.just because it reads over 12 volts it does'nt mean the battery is good i found this out the hard way several times.good luck and hope this helped.
You wouldnt be able to install an engine with a 12v flywheel into a 6v Non 12v flywheel clearanced transmission. They wont go in. This does sound like a 6v flywheel and a 12v starter. Could be a bushing in the trans to starter
this is a classic case of flywheel grinding on tranny housing. using early tranny that has not been clearanced for 12 volt flywheel will drag this engine and struggle .
Does it fire up fine if you push start it?If so check ur dash to see if you have a battery light on if so your altenator could be overcharging/undercharging ur battery.if you have no bat light on get your starter reconed it should be fine then!!Mechanic 15years experience!
check the ground strap going to the trans case from the frame.if its bad,ie green or corrided.check the bolts also it will do the same thing.let us know ok.....
