Only 5th place for Jagr? As an 18 year old he had 60 points in 51 games among seniors in the 3rd best hockey league in the world - Czechoslovak league with all the great Czech and Slovak players in it! Well, he proved his greatness right away in the 90/91 NHL season scoring 57 points in 80 games.
@honzahirsch Brodeur IS arguably the greatest goaltender that has ever played, he is a first ballot hall of famer and will have his number retired in several arenas.
Not to mention goaltender is the hardest position to play.
So I totally disagree in Jagr being the best taken in the draft. If you want to win the cup, you start with goaltending.
@mrceebees "brodeur will have his number retired in several arenas" no he won't! he'll have his number retired in Jersey and Jersey only why would teams he never played for retire his number? that would be retarded
@mrceebees14 their isn't anything to figure out team Canada doesn't have a home rink since international tournaments are just that international so they won't retire his number, his junior team might retire his number so if I give you that thats 2 teams, is that what you meant when you said several arenas?
if I'm a retard what does that make you because I'm clearly smarter than you.......
@nevertweet015 Tretiak has his name retired in the NHL without ever playing a game in the league, so your ignorant definition of international holds no water. You can add high school and college to that list, so right there there are 4 arena's with common sense telling us there could be more.
The only smarter you are is at being ignorant, if Brain were fuel, you wouldn't have enough to drive a flea mobile around the inside of a Cheerio.
@mrceebees14 Tretiak doesn't have his name retired nor his number in the NHL, he is in the NHL Hall Of Fame without ever playing a game but lots of goalie's and players have worn his number 20 so you are wrong.
Brodeur didn't play college hockey he played junior and high school hockey is only big in the states(and possibly europe) so the number is still 2....care to try again?
PS the more you try and insult my intellegence the dumber you look!(because again I'm smarter than you)
@nevertweet015 Oh really? Here you go: He was named to the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1989, the first Soviet player to be so honored and to be inducted as a player without having played a game in the NHL. In 2000, he was voted Best Russian Hockey Player of the 20th century.[8] He was a vital cog for some of the most dominant hockey teams in history and is now considered one of hockey's greatest ambassadors."
@nevertweet015 You are already defeated, unless that is another Tretiak with his name in the Hockey Hall of Fame in Toronto.
The fact here is, you jumped the gun in thinking I was only talking about the NHL when it comes to being honored, which makes you a simpleton and ignorant.
Have fun looking at Tretiaks bio on Hockey Hall of Fame dot come idiot.
@mrceebees14 no I'm not I know tretiak is in the hall of fame (and I know how dominate he used to be), I said so in my last post but his number isn't retired by any nhl team which is what we where arguing about in case you forgot....his number is probably retired in russia somewhere but the only player to have his number completely retired is Wayne Gretzky and nobody else will ever have that honor. You haven't won, your not even winning moron!
@honzahirsch Just so you don;t think I am being a homer, I am NOT a Devils fan. I am actually a fan of one of their arch rivals, but to not recognize that he was the best player taken in that draft would make anyone look foolish.
@JoelWheels Yeah, he busted pretty bad, but I think the Oilers overall were the biggest busts. Not one player that they drafted that year ever played an NHL regular season game, that is inept scouting.
@TurgeonFan77132 I hear you, every time I go through the isles draft history I shake my head. He hurt his hand before he got to nhl(although he never actually palyed much...)
@Kipperluongo Well he went 20th overall so I doubt he sucked balls. The Devils have said that they thought Brodeur would be better than Kidd and that's why they traded down. Lou knew Calgary would take the hometown kid. Kidd went on to suck balls and Brodeur rewrote the record books.
@fafaflooey the sv% in his junior years weren't recorded but his gaa was really bad, but then again his team could've been horrible. actually im looking at all of these goalies from when they were in junior and they all have bad stats, i guess the 4.00 gaa is the same as 2.00 gaa now.
@Kipperluongo It's hard to look at stats in juniors and college and translate them to the NHL level. That's why they do personality tests to see how players would handle certain situations. Also, you have to look to see if these kids continuing growing and have the ability to get stronger. So much goes into scouting, way more than stats. Brodeur had a certain personality and was in the perfect system with great players and it allowed Brodeur to become one of the greatest.
@fafaflooey ya i know but looking at some of the goalies stats that went high up in the first rounds of the draft i can't imagine a goalies stats when he gets drafted in the 5th round or something. You know what I mean?
@fafaflooey no one, not even the new jersey scouts (and they all admit it openly) could have predicted that brodeur would be how he is today. Who knows, maybe in the 2011 draft, someone drafted in like the 5th round could be better than both ovechkin and crosby. No one can accurately predicted 10-20 years ahead.
Nedved screwed us over what a waste of a pick this guy had tons of talent but was only in it for the money and gave us only 1 decent season then left because he didn't get a huge raise
"Badger" Bob Johnson died of cancer in the fall of 1991. He was the long time coach of the U. of Wisconsin Badgers and father of Miracle on Ice Hero/NHLer Mark Johnson.
Brodeur/Kidd:

omg what cheesy music! lol i wasn't even born when this happened, hard to imagine brodeur went 20th. i guess that's how drafts work, have to get lucky.
Isn't it amazing how someone like Brodeur went that low in the draft? Can you imagine how all those GMs must feel now? How could Ricci be considered a #1 top pick? Wow

ALl this transformed the team into a killing machine, altough they lacked a decent goalie
well, Jagr is what I like to call an unselfish player...you need them as a leader and make others better...he is better as a complementary player and a go-to-guy.
Eh...sorry he is from the Czech Republic and he holds all hockey records...goals, assists, and starts for a player...Also he lists Ronald Reagan as one of his heroes.
Not a lot of guys play 18 years in this league...so to play that long is an accomplishment, Jagr is now with the club Avanguard Omsk where he will play with Rangers '07 pick Alexei Cherapanov.

Not a lot of guys play 18 years in this league...so to play that long is an accomplishment, Jagr is now with the club Avanguard Omsk where he will play with Rangers '07 pick Alexei Cherapanov.
