I love this SO much. I listen to this speech in full on MLK day every year if at all possible and I had never considered how musical it was until I heard this - thanks v much, you clever clogs.
@dmvc2008 Thank you kindly! We enjoy making this kind of music (well, revealing the composition of composers who don't know they're composers. Hmm, maybe MLK did though - what do you think?)
@topologyrob That's an intriguing thought. If I think about those men labelled "statesmen" through the ages - their oratorical power of persuasion would be a kissing cousin to music if you ask me. I'm pleased to have the opportunity to get my eyes opened to that thought, it's my favourite of the week.
I agree with KarasuNoGoh... just saying the song kind of ruins the purpose of his speech. His powerful speech was not meant to be turned into the next Bill Cosby show. I'm not trying to offend. If you want to make it better try some minor notes on the piano a bit more To darken it, a tad bit. It was an amazing and sad day. I appreciate your taste in music and attempt, but it doesn't go together.
@sam9008 This music is consistant with the inspirational and emotional feeling of the speech to me. Realize that it is just your opinion, man, and if this isn't to your liking, you're more than welcomed not to listen to it.
@sam9008 I also have to comment here. It was an amazingly joyous day and to me the music only underlines that without diminishing it in any way. The comparison with the Cosby show - not seeing that at all. I think you're anticipating subsequent events but for me, that footage is timeless and I listen and think of the moment that it was for so many people.
@dmvc2008 Well here let me put it this way, it was an "emotional" day. The music doesn't really underline anything at all it's not making a point but only distorting the FEEL behind it; inspiring events should stay just as that. The Cosby Show comment was to say this wasn't supposed to be turned into a failed attempt at amusing people.
@sam9008 As a young, white Australian, it's easy to feel removed from this moment in history, even though I do realise how important the day was to the treatment of and emotionally, people all around the world. I think this is such a powerful piece of music on many levels, brings me that tiny bit closer to understanding the great excitiement and joy that the crowd in the video are obvious overflowing with. Even though the outcome may not be perfect today, I think we've come a long way. I think.
Well, don't mean to offend but that doesn't sound right to me with the music, that's too cheerfull, especially when I think the man was killed and the dream not at all fullfilled.
(Even though you may think it is because they put a black puppet at the white house...)
let me just stay it's very well done :) Keep up the good work!

Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.'s way of speaking is music itself -- like the cantors of other faiths, this sounds just so great!!

Thanks for your comments - but I'm intrigued by your calling it a "sad day" - what was sad about this speech? It was powerfully joyful wasn't it?

@topologyrob Let me rephrase it was an emotional day.
