Bishop J. Delano Eliis, once told me (a new Pastor) something I will never forget. He said "Preach the church up; No gimmicks." Unfortunately gimmicks are what people want, who has the best choir, the best dance team, the most charismatic preacher. Some of these things are fine if they are done with a pure heart and they give all glory to God. But more and more churches have resorted to gimmicks and/or taxing the people to accomplish their corporate goals. When that happens God gets no Glory.
My church is trying to raise 30 million dollars to expand buildings on our church. Its fine that thier expanding but the things they are adding into these buildings is crazy. They are trying to make the new disney world. Kids are gonna want to come in cause of the worldly things, not getting saved cause of Jesus Christ. I realize attractions can bring people to Jesus Christ, but the majority would be too distracted

This is so true. The sad thing I realize is that although I don't like the entertainment style, I have been so influenced by it that I see how far I am from being the follower of Christ I should be.In America entertainment is a religion unto itself. How hard it is to find a meeting that is not contaminated with it in some form or fashion.

If by Preaching the "Good News. Gospel, Truth" we damage or Hurt these little ones who are in Jesus' hands, we put ourselves in the most dangerous of positions.
I have to say as well that so-called Christians skip School/Work etc just to go to Christian concerts, entertaining events or conventions. I thought people knew what they we're doing was wrong when they start skipping Sunday School and Bible Classes for foolishness (I thought wrong). It's like they need a Psychologist to tell them what they want to hear.

Proven men who see the obvious .Entertainment has overtaken most churches and does not belong there period ! Look, I do agree that this video presents some truth, but I suggest instead of listening to what A.W.Tozer said, let's try listening to what The Son of God said.
When the fire of God falls, He burns up the need for entertainment. He consumes everything that shouldnt be there. God becomes so very REAL because His power is at work right there where you are. People get convicted of sin, saved, healed, delivered, empowered for real ministry. Real ministry reveals Jesus-crucified, risen, ascended, glorified-no more, no less. False ministry exalts self, ego, greed, vanity, ambition, attention seeking, private agendas etc.
Great video. I have recently been convicted of this truth that God chose me. He saved me. I was dead in my sins and he brought me back to life. I have been floundering in my Christian walk for a long time...mainly due to my lack of assurance that I was His. How could I give my all if in the end my very salvation could come into question. Oh blessed assurance, that it is God who chose me and no one can take me from Him, not even myself, for He will see through( in me) what HE has started.

I think I must have read twenty books by A W Tozer and I have to say The Lord greatly used this man for His purpose and His glory. Everything I have read thus far has only served to greatly increase my understanding of The Lords purpose and will for my life, indeed for all mankind: That we should be His for eternity through and by His mercy and grace.To be obedient and willing to surrender to a newness of life that can only be found in the blood that was shed in the Crucifixion of Jesus Christ..

First, the music on your video is beautiful. Can you tell me what it is? Also, there are still churches that have the power of GOD. I believe in my heart that we in the Body of Christ must get together in the unity of the faith and we must love and forgive one another. We must sit down and tell each other the truth in love and pray that we can become the Bride that Jesus Christ is coming back for. Dougmeekins..you seem to miss the main point which is carnal entertainment and a distorted gospel in many churches,that is the local church Tozer is speaking about.A YT video presentation can not be compared to the local church.Read every word of what Tozer said.I AGREE with his message.Not every 'new thing' or modern thing in the church is a proper presentation of the gospel.
I can see the concern you have and I agree in many ways, however it should be noted YOU used an entertainment medium to express your powerful concerns. You used lovely pictures and a haunting score. So, we need to focus on the Gospel, but let's not be so quick to put a gun to the head using new mediums and or ways to convict us of our sin and have us run to Christ.

Oh yes, we have this kind of church right here in Vienna: they offer low class entertainment, they repart invitations in which they advertise free food or something to attract people to come instead of mention Jesus. The church in general is full of entertainment and is very far from legalism!! As soon as someone warns of the carnality of the church and its worldliness people will cry legalism.Listen getting the junk and sin out of the church is doing the right thing. Because we lack real christians we lower out standards and preach weak sermons and tickle their ears and eyes with entertainment.

Has anyone here read "Stranger in a Strange Land" by Robert Heinlein? I just finished reading it for the second time, and no Heinlein was no Christian, but he sure had some amazing insights in to this very topic!!!! Look at the Fosterites, I think that is very quickly what our church is becoming, its so sad that people who are of the faith cannot see what non-believers see so clearly.

As a missionary pastor I wrote many worship songs and we would pour our hearts out to God.The presence of God was real in the singing and preaching.They would soak up the Word,many times 90 minutes sermons full of scripture and doctrine.All of this is worship and musy honor God. Entertainments focus is on people and amusing them,it not a synonym for worship.Bro.David.

I still work on memorizing Scripture that I learned to do back then, now they don't even teach the Word let alone memorize it! This is so right on, David. We have seen families go get "high" at church and then come home and treat their families horrible.I used to be part of a church that was like this. You leave with nothing. No deep teaching, no true friends. Seems they are still trying to find the Lord. When you truly know him you do not need that hype at all. It is not our job to try and judge this for others. God knows the heart. We know if we are a Christian once we are born-again- for ourself -personally.

The things that you say here are symptoms of the spiritual malaise that has slowly spread through the Church over the last forty or fifty years. I am old enough to remember the Church of the 1960s. The present day church bears little resemblance. Few indeed are those that now find the strait gate.

Rarely is God the main attraction in most churches.Many cannot stand a serious sermon over 30 minutes! Few can really defend the gospel and its doctrines because they do not study the Word. And real singing will always have depth and will not be silly and shallow.Joy mixed with reverence because God is awesome and holy not a jolly Santa Claus!

Is it any wonder why the unbelievers say the church is just a big business? Thats what they see! I seem to remember someone saying he will add to the church such as should be saved, and we are called to disciple them , using the gifts God has given every believer.
I tend to agree with many of these points. Although,he also seemed to suggest that there shouldn't be fun or joy in worship. If that is what he meant,then I would have to disagree.
We are supposed to have joy when we worship God. Galatians 5:22-23. We are supposed to sing songs. Colosians 3:16;Ephesians 5:19;James 5:13.
I agree that the visible church has gone astray. Many don't seek to glorify in the Lord, but to not be bored.

Tozer truly believed if joyful worship and reverent worship,which is all thru scripture but the word 'fun' and what it applies and what we see in the modern church is not found in scripture.A big difference in having fun and being joyful in Christ.Ps2:11 "Serve the Lord with fear and rejoice with trembling."
When ever I speak the word sin there is an immediate turning in anger toward me that I should ever utter the word sin. There are many hardhearted toward God and His word and we live amongst them, even in our own homes.They may be hard hearted but we must become thick skinned lest me forget who we are and become as they are. God help us that we never turn back to this hateful wor ld and forget that we have a message that God Himself gave us to deliver for Him. We must live in His joy.

Powerful message.. I happen to think he is right on target.. There is too much entertainment in our churches.. One thing I never hear any more is the word " sin" . How about the ten commandments? Hardly hear that either.. All in all God is the ultimate judge !!! Let's remain faithful despite what the rest of the world is doing.. We will all have to answer for what we did or didn't do..
We must be careful not to be prompt to judge others. On the other hand, we mustn't remain blind to flagrant and blatant disregard for the holy Word of God shown by some servants of God !!!

Indeed we all need to repent and start living for our creature and stop acting if we truely living for Him...we ought to think strongly about where we truely am with Him..Ask ourselves are we living for Him or are we living like the world is living...We can keep one foot in heaven and one foot on earth. We really need discernment and to make sure that we are pleasing God! The church needs to have a purging of all wordly methods! Do we want real conversions or just want to fill the pews?Do we want God and His Word?

Bishop J. Delano Eliis, once told me (a new Pastor) something I will never forget. He said "Preach the church up; No gimmicks." Unfortunately gimmicks are what people want, who has the best choir, the best dance team, the most charismatic preacher. Some of these things are fine if they are done with a pure heart and they give all glory to God. But more and more churches have resorted to gimmicks and/or taxing the people to accomplish their corporate goals. When that happens God gets no Glory.

My church is trying to raise 30 million dollars to expand buildings on our church. Its fine that thier expanding but the things they are adding into these buildings is crazy. They are trying to make the new disney world. Kids are gonna want to come in cause of the worldly things, not getting saved cause of Jesus Christ. I realize attractions can bring people to Jesus Christ, but the majority would be too distracted

This is so true. The sad thing I realize is that although I don't like the entertainment style, I have been so influenced by it that I see how far I am from being the follower of Christ I should be.In America entertainment is a religion unto itself. How hard it is to find a meeting that is not contaminated with it in some form or fashion.

I have to say as well that so-called Christians skip School/Work etc just to go to Christian concerts, entertaining events or conventions. I thought people knew what they we're doing was wrong when they start skipping Sunday School and Bible Classes for foolishness (I thought wrong). It's like they need a Psychologist to tell them what they want to hear.
The end times is real near and God is not going to have any of it.

When the fire of God falls, He burns up the need for entertainment. He consumes everything that shouldnt be there. God becomes so very REAL because His power is at work right there where you are. People get convicted of sin, saved, healed, delivered, empowered for real ministry. Real ministry reveals Jesus-crucified, risen, ascended, glorified-no more, no less. Great video. I have recently been convicted of this truth that God chose me. He saved me. I was dead in my sins and he brought me back to life. I have been floundering in my Christian walk for a long time...mainly due to my lack of assurance that I was His. How could I give my all if in the end my very salvation could come into question. Oh blessed assurance, that it is God who chose me and no one can take me from Him, not even myself, for He will see through( in me) what HE has started.

People love their entertainment even in the church and get angry at those who speak out against it.Tozer pastored for over 34 years and traveled alot and could see for himself the lack of realworship and sound preaching.The Word of God is revelant in any age because its inspired by God! If they don't see any difference, they don't see any point. Mich more important to live a life of obedience, set apart for God's purpose. I believe in my heart that we in the Body of Christ must get together in the unity of the faith and we must love and forgive one another. I can see the concern you have and I agree in many ways, however it should be noted YOU used an entertainment medium to express your powerful concerns. You used lovely pictures and a haunting score. So, we need to focus on the Gospel, but let's not be so quick to put a gun to the head using new mediums and or ways to convict us of our sin and have us run to Christ.

Oh yes, we have this kind of church right here in Vienna: they offer low class entertainment, they repart invitations in which they advertise free food or something to attract people to come instead of mention Jesus. So one must not wonder when in these cheap effect shows the Holy Spirit is hiding completely, because they are celebrating themselves and not our Lord Jesus Christ. Amen

The church in general is full of entertainment and is very far from legalism!! As soon as someone warns of the carnality of the church and its worldliness people will cry legalism.Listen getting the junk and sin out of the church is doing the right thing. Because we lack real christians we lower out standards and preach weak sermons and tickle their ears and eyes with entertainment.

All this is rubbish. Everything on U tube is rubbish. What I suggest is just three things instead:
1 Open your Bible every day and spend 30-60 minutes reading it. Ask God to speak to your heart.
2Pray every day for God's guidance and wisdom... also thanking him for the Holy spirit, which is how he reveals truth to us.
3.Tell somebody about Jesus Christ and God's plan of redemption - every time you have the chance

Has anyone here read "Stranger in a Strange Land" by Robert Heinlein? I just finished reading it for the second time, and no Heinlein was no Christian, but he sure had some amazing insights in to this very topic!!!! Look at the Fosterites, I think that is very quickly what our church is becoming, its so sad that people who are of the faith cannot see what non-believers see so clearly.

As a missionary pastor I wrote many worship songs and we would pour our hearts out to God.The presence of God was real in the singing and preaching.They would soak up the Word,many times 90 minutes sermons full of scripture and doctrine.All of this is worship and musy honor God. Thaks for this vid, David. I was in some good churches during the years and I can testify how far they have come...away from the truth. I still work on memorizing Scripture that I learned to do back then, now they don't even teach the Word let alone memorize it! Very sad indeed, but my husband and I learned more with the Holy Spirit teaching us than we ever learned in church. He taught me things about heaven I never heard from the pulpit. I used to listen to marymary when I first came to Christ, but not anymore. And this is the reason why. It is all about them and entertainment instead of worshipping God.

God used one of their songs to help me be more thankful and grateful to God.

Right on! Many will pay big bucks to go to 'gospel concerts' and it is clear it is all about the one singing-they not Jesus receive the adoration and applause.We can certainly judge fruit and lifestyle.We are to try the spirits! Its big business!

This is so right on, David. We have seen families go get "high" at church and then come home and treat their families horrible.I used to be part of a church that was like this. You leave with nothing. No deep teaching, no true friends. Seems they are still trying to find the Lord. When you truly know him you do not need that hype at all. No theological training and the fact that he gave most of his royalties away shows Tozer was a true man of God! Thanks for doing this video! Elizabeth

@Lachance8 we should not judge if others are Christians or not. The Lord knows those who belong to Him.
It is not our job to try and judge this for others. God knows the heart. We know if we are a Christian once we are born-again- for ourself -personally.

I just saw the Tye Tribbett 'PRAISE BREAK VIDEO" AND WAS VERY GRIEVED,it was pure entertainment with no substance and he drew all the attention to himself. It was a show not worthy to call worship to an Awesome God.Have doubts see the video for yourself.

Use the discernment of the Holy Spirit within you. If, like me, you were a long time listener... the sense may be dulled to it.... So, careful prayer is necessary. As always, you must carefully set your heart to desire the truth no matter what.

Great video bro...if we have such a great love how come we are hiding in boxes (buildings) and not sharing it...yeah we fool ourselves to think God is working but every week it is the same faces and social country club with a jesus face on it. If we do bring someone we make them twice the child of hell because we tell them this jesus lets you live for him and you @ the same time. Try converting someone who already thinks they are a christian being converted by false doctrine!

The solid, sober and serious truth is expressed here. I have been preaching this for years, and I have been scoffed at and alienated by my ministerial brethren. We are looking at the apostate church. The things that you say here are symptoms of the spiritual malaise that has slowly spread through the Church over the last forty or fifty years. I am old enough to remember the Church of the 1960s. The present day church bears little resemblance. Few indeed are those that now find the strait gate.

Rarely is God the main attraction in most churches.Many cannot stand a serious sermon over 30 minutes! Few can really defend the gospel and its doctrines because they do not study the Word. And real singing will always have depth and will not be silly and shallow.Joy mixed with reverence because God is awesome and holy not a jolly Santa Claus!

This video really needs to sink in for Tozer make so many important observations.We need to take the time to re-evaluate everything we do and why we do it! Are we wanting to see lives transformed and the Lord exalted?We want Gods presence in the sanctuary not fun. I cannot see how anyone could misinterpert or diagree with such a convicting video.The Lord said narrow is the way and few there be that find it. 5 stars!!

Is it any wonder why the unbelievers say the church is just a big business? Thats what they see! I seem to remember someone saying he will add to the church such as should be saved, and we are called to disciple them , using the gifts God has given every believer.

I tend to agree with many of these points. Although,he also seemed to suggest that there shouldn't be fun or joy in worship. If that is what he meant,then I would have to disagree.
We are supposed to have joy when we worship God. Galatians 5:22-23. We are supposed to sing songs. Colosians 3:16;Ephesians 5:19;James 5:13.
I agree that the visible church has gone astray. Many don't seek to glorify in the Lord, but to not be bored.
Worshipping the Lord is never boring if you love Him.

Tozer truly believed if joyful worship and reverent worship,which is all thru scripture but the word 'fun' and what it applies and what we see in the modern church is not found in scripture.A big difference in having fun and being joyful in Christ.Ps2:11 "Serve the Lord with fear and rejoice with trembling."

When ever I speak the word sin there is an immediate turning in anger toward me that I should ever utter the word sin. There are many hardhearted toward God and His word and we live amongst them, even in our own homes.They may be hard hearted but we must become thick skinned lest me forget who we are and become as they are. God help us that we never turn back to this hateful wor ld and forget that we have a message that God Himself gave us to deliver for Him. We must live in His joy.

Powerful message.. I happen to think he is right on target.. There is too much entertainment in our churches.. One thing I never hear any more is the word " sin" . How about the ten commandments? Hardly hear that either.. All in all God is the ultimate judge !!! Let's remain faithful despite what the rest of the world is doing.. We will all have to answer for what we did or didn't do..

Indeed we all need to repent and start living for our creature and stop acting if we truely living for Him...we ought to think strongly about where we truely am with Him..Ask ourselves are we living for Him or are we living like the world is living...We can keep one foot in heaven and one foot on earth. If we truely love Him, may we truely walk as He walk and talk as He talk, do as He has done. In this world we will suffer for His glory...Amen!
