Would have been better without the pointless dolphin. It doesn't fit the atmosphere of the fairy tale at all. The little mermaid was supposed to be a brooding solitary type, not at home in the sea, longing for something else.

Surprisingly, when I watched this film in my childhood, I did not cry. Probably because I already knew the original tale (My Mother read it to me), and I understood the mermaid's future. Great film, a true masterpiece. I remember the days when me and my Grandmother were reserved in a community (my parents left for vacation so they had her take care of me) and I would watch this film nearly every day, and my friends from the community would come visit our home to watch it with me. Good old days.

I grew up listening to Hans Chrstian Anderson's stories. Even though the book

passed down to me from my mom, doesn't have this story in it. I have watched this

version when I was a little girl. When I grew up I bought the video of it. My two very

young children watched it over and over again until the tape accidently got ruined.

I am now also a writer. I've seen the disney version. I perfer this one. We have

to realize back then that stories had a morral lesson about real life God bless

i have watched this movie so many times i still remember it word for word. i asked for the little mermaid and the thrift store shopping grandma got this one for me....i do like it a bit better because it has more of a realistic ending, where we dont get what we want and have to make difficult decisions and live up to them.

But what you see that makes you think its day is the shadow of the sails in the colour of sky blue casted upon the sail behind it. I replayed it over and over and i finally realized that.
