  • When I was in high school i tried playing football and that didn't work out right because I was afraid of getting hit and I couldn't distinguish between adrenaline and fear, so it was eventually my downfall and if I had better knowledge of the things I know now and better skills, I could have possibly performed better.

  • The ability to visualize achievement is very powerful. This positive thinking can easily influence someone when training or working. When one can begin to employ the higher order training, actually controlling your dreams and thoughts, to nurture this positive attitude, enjoyment is almost assured. You do not dwell as much on the stress of competing, but simply the enjoyment, and that less stressful cognitive environment is likely to lead to better performances.

  • as a former NCAA athlete i wish i had watched this video before. some of these techniques i would use such as visualizing success by finishing the race. relaxation techniques where also useful. i like how he applied sports psychology to everyday life such as applying to family, relationships, and work/school. i like how he explains visualizing the process and having fun with the process which can be applied to sports and other goals in life.

  • kelvin: it's quite intriguing that a person can actually control their dreams. i didn't think this was possible, but now that i know it is im guna work on that. Also i'd like to add that its true when you don't think about the end result in a competition and just enjoy the moment something good or not so good may happen, but with the right mind set, what ever happens probably wouldnt bother you because youre doing it for simple enjoyment.

  • Sports psychology is concerned with sports and exercise, focusing on performance, motivation, and the psychological benefits of sports and athletics

  • Wow this hit home. Yesterday I was doing a Crossfit workout with my friends and through out the workout I was just thinking how much it sucked and just wanted it to end. I was also competing with my friends and that was on my mind throughout the workout. I should have just focused on process and having fun instead of concentrating on competing and the end result.

  • As a competitive swimmer I adhere to many of the principles and techniques that Dr. Elligan spoke of. The main idea of this video is to enjoy the process and competition of sports or of life. Basically, "Its not if you win or lose its how you play the game." ---Enjoy the process.

I use positive visualization in many different aspects: work, racing, and project management and have had successful results. The breathing exercises and relaxation training can be used in everyday life by all.

  • As a bodybuilder and powerlifter, I find myself visualizing all the time. In training and in competition at some of the most weird places. I find myself visualizing while I'm cooking, eating, walking, and even in class sometime. I know that this practice will help me get to a higher level in my competitive endeavors. Another thing that I have been trying to accomplish is turning my thinking around to more positive thoughts while prepping for a meet or a show, especially since I self sabotage.

  • Sports psychology has always been a specialty w/in the field that I have been interested in but did not know much about. I appreciated the metaphors and lessons that can be learned from sports psychology and applied to everyday life. I found the part about lucid dreaming to be particularly interesting. I would certainly like to undergo some training to master this skill. Its utility seems endless.

  • I like the idea that it's not about the finish line, but enjoying the journey there. There is a poem called the dash, that phrases this very well. I use visualization all the time, especially when goal setting.

  • Perfect video! You have a step by step guide line to how I could train myself like a sports professional using psychology. I will put these techniques to use to be much more successful. I first heard of sports psychology when I watched Hoop Dreams the documentary taped here in Chicago. A little while later I heard the New Orleans Saints football team had their own motivational speaker. Thats when I realized how important ones mind could be.

  • I'm an athlete and i like this video a lot because i really feel the message of enjoying the process needs to be spreaded though out chicago because a lot of people i know just always care about winning and they try to do anything to win these days and i seen fights break out during all types of sports. all the other sport psychologys made a lot of sense too and i like the way he converted them to everyday life in different situations.

  • this really speaks to many athletes and people who do not know what Pressure athletes have to go through

  • All of the information on this video is useful for the present time.

  • All of the information on this video is useful for the present time.

  • great information Dr Elligan keep the good work going. now i have enough information to give to my friends.

  • This was a very interesting video to me. I am currently training for a figure competition that is 6 weeks away and I will be able to incorporate these techniques into my life. Especially the visualization and relaxation. Good information on how to stay focused on the things you have control over. I cannot control how hard the other girls are working out or dieting but I have complete control on my final outcome. Thanks Dr. Elligan.

  • That so makes sense. where was this when i was in cross country?

but yeah, i'm going to try to adapt like that, see if i don't get too stressed out at work or other public places.

  • The information was very informative and the strategies that were mentioned I will share with my famiy and friends. Thank you and keep up the excellent work.

  • Dr Elligan makes some good points and what he speaks about does help with everyday life events. Thanks for sharing some good strategies.
