Pete Rock & CL Smooth, in my opinion, are the greatest artists hip-hop has ever seen. The Main Ingredient, in my opinion, is the greatest hip-hop album of all time. There's not one bad track on that album, they're all dope! The fact that I've had to dig in the crates to find music from when I was a young child makes the album even better. Real hip-hop forever! No immitations. Peace.

@eslubin i didnt mean it like that lol silly comment really. but what i mean is that there making music that only keeps your mind on one thing and thats the club. or dancing money bitches. and all that bullshit. idk...
This is still one of the most nostalgic songs, that immediately remind me of childhood and all the happy, care-free days. I have to admit, Pete Rock, Madlib, and Dilla have beats that have so much soul, that it's brought some tears to my eyes. It's pure escapism, like all I can think about, is everything that ever mattered, and made me smile.
Anyone who says Hip Hop is shit, are people who don't even realize what it really is.
I agree the '90s had many golden moments, & it was a good time in Hip-hop, but it was second to the true golden era which was the late 80's to '90. This was the only time when you had an abundance of music where artists were free to be original & creative, & made great music. Why? Because no one controlled hip-hop then, when the 90s came in, the big business started taking control & making gangsta rap clones, or MC Hammer pop clones. Pete & CL was golden!
@BendikBS what?! man this is a mizell and byrd classic. This is a nice rendition though the original and its whole album is uncomparable! Places and Spaces-Donald Byrd
this song is a little known classic...not only because of the stellar production by Pete Rock but the strong lyrical assist by my man CL!! he and PR made a great team in the 90's!!...I miss those days
Quick question, what songs are sampled? or song? Im just curious what the singing is from during the chorus, it sounds so familiar. The beat mixes so smoothly with it.
I miss that feeling you would get from listening to a great hip hop song. I don't feel the same about the music coming out right now. It seems like everyone today is dumbing down their music so every lazy unintelligent person can understand it. Dumbing it down so they can make more money and that is so sad. I feel like people are forgetting what real artists are. Art is not about money, it is about making a statement and that statement should say something that makes people think.
@theRevolutionaryMind People forget that Hip Hop's origins weren't lyrical. All this wordplay came about when the MC started getting more popular then the DJ in the mid to late 80s. Before that Hip Hop was block party music, where most of the lyrics consisted of "All the ladies say HEEEEEY, and all the fellas say HOOOOO."
@RyanLikeDrums Pete Rock, himself is dropping 5 albums in 2011. He is only making one with CL Smooth. Even so, that is awesome news for any Hip-Hop fan!
If you're a Hip Hop head and you dislike this... I just don't know what to say. You can't be a true Hip Hop head and hate on this. You just can't. C.L. drops the lyrics and Pete Rock... Words can't describe the greatness.

I'm 23 years old and I feel like i'm the only person my age listening to early 90's hip hop. The REALEST hip hop was produced then. All jazz influenced. Beautiful, smooth beats coupled with the best rhymes ever. All the newer artists like Talib Kweli always referenced Pete Rock and all the other pioneers of the genre so I had to take a listen and I am absolutely obsessed with early 90's hip hop. I'm also a suburban white boy too :)
@Brehization trust me, no you're not. I'm 22 years old and I have the same mentality. I can honestly say that I was raised off 90's hip hop. I was so fortunate to have two older brothers that grew up with this sound in the heart of Brooklyn, NY and I was able to appreciate its value. Doesn't matter if you're white, black, spanish, etc either, this music is golden and still refreshing even after 16 years. Appeals to any real hip hop head, and you my friend are one of them :-)
@Brehization I'm a 13 year old suburban white boy, and I'm the only person that I know that listens to real hip hop like this. Everyone one else listens to Soulja Boy, Lil Wayne, and Flo Rida, where as I listen to Nas, Biggie, Big L, 2Pac, Rakim, C.L. Smooth, Black Moon, Az, Big Daddy Kane, KRS-One, Kool G Rap, Common, Mos Def, Wu-Tang Clan, The Roots, Big Pun, Gang Starr, and many others...I don't even understand why people don't listen to real hip hop. R.I.P. Hip Hop - Early 1980s - 1996
@xBallTVx There is hope for humanity. Good job! You should also check out P.O.S. He's from Rhymesayers. Great emcee's with that label too like Slug and Brother Ali.
@xBallTVx nobody cares. you might notice that their is at least 1 of these kind of comments per every 10 real hip hop videos... youre not as unique as you think
@xBallTVx I'm a 7 year old suburban yellow korean , and I'm the only person that I know that listens to real hip hop like this. Everyone one else listens to Soulja Boy, Lil Wayne, and Flo Rida, where as I listen to Nas, Biggie, Big L, 2Pac, Rakim, C.L. @downsyndrome10 Get your fam to take you to either Rock the Bells '11 or Paid Dues '11. festival with groups like you've named. I'm headed to Paid Dues (in San Bernardino, CA) tomorrow. If your fam is nervous or whatever-reassure them.. this concert is for all ages, ethnic groups and there are kids there with their families as well as old heads. I've gone to 7 of them and there has NEVER been an incident. This year Mos Def and Talib Qweli (BlackStarr) are the headliners
@Brehization my dude it dont matter if your a subarban white boy, just matters that u enjoy this masterpiece lol. im tha same to am addicted to early 90s hip hop, rap

Peace little homie.
