Bet you had a great time playing with that! The one thing I love about the tenori is the lights! it just makes the whole experience much more heavenly! I certainly did with this performance of yours. Thanks for sharing! Applause! Cheers! ;)
yeah. you light up the little boxes. The highed up on the y axis you go, a different sound. The bar that goes along from left to right is our timer. When the bar touches a lit up square, it makes the sound...I'm assuming you can save different loops and stuff. PLayed around with an app like this before so that's all I know.
@chicayote Sort of. It is primarily a sequencer with a wavetable memory. you select sounds arrange them in a pattern on the LED matrix and the sequencer will play them. There is another type of instrument out there called the Korg Kaossilator and the Kaossilator Pro those instruments are controlled by a touchpad and you can build tunes by recording loops and soloing on top of those. They're tons of fun and much cheaper than a tenori on
@dudewhosaysarrh This seems like it has a lot more features and loop functions than the Kaosilator though. I had a Kaosilator for a bit and the only problems I had with it is that you can't take individual tracks or sounds out of the loop, and it only goes to 8 barres (or 16 if you glitch it out). So you can only add a shit load of things untill it gets too much and do a few other things. This looks like it eliminates all those.
@GreatBigSlide I was talking mainly about the kaossilator pro. That thing has 4 loop banks, so you can generate 4 separate loops and built stacked sounds within each bank if this becomes too much you can switch off the loop, edit it or delete it while the others keep playing and it has 16 beats loop capacity, at least above 108.5 bpm. Moreover you can mix the loops and adjust each loops individual volume. It does however not have track bounce or resampling capacity, thats what he kp3 is for.
@GreatBigSlide Do you mean the K-Pro? It uses preset sounds but you can also record from external sources, like guitar, microphone or a second synth. There is some guy on youtube playing on 2 kaossilators at once just search youtube for "jam on 2 kaossilators" I guess that video explains a lot.
I agree, this is all flash and no dash. Alas some people want the new "cool thing" and could have a nice start on a decent hardware set up with that money. You could buy a separate synth and sampler both with sequencers, midi, and effects for that much.
yea but the terri on does have a desirably low bit sound glitch and crunchy its also a great interactive performance tool .. im getting a monome but if i had th money one of theses would be just the ticket to buddy it up with
This is good, man, but you filmed it holding it facing you, to us it looks upside-down! The pacer thing SHOULD go left to right, and high notes are above low notes.
I will not criticize any Tenori-On player. They had the "guts" to buy an expensive instrument. It is innovative, people are still feeling their way, unsure about how to use it. Some will "get it" and some will not.
It seems like the matrix on Reason, and the vertical lines are different sequence patterns, it seems to have a very low notes per second accuracy, thus very mechanical sounding. Now if it had a groove quantize knob on it where you can slide notes around, it may be useful. I have yet to hear anything funky made with this, and I like funk.
yea mann i been looking all on utube to find some funky shht someone made with this, but i guess i'll just have to get it and do it myself...im still mad there's no pitch or modualtion thou..not sure if i'll get it
At last, someone who shows precisely how this thing works! Funny isnt it, how it takes someone who knows what REAL music is to show how it works. All the other videos are of people making music that is in a genre from the last 30 years (and that is a direct result of how this machine is designed it makes alot of assumptions about what music is and how it is structured). The interface is beautiful, no doubt about it, but what we want is NEW MUSIC not a NEW WAY TO MAKE OLD MUSIC.
agh....listening to the sequence being repeated over and over and over again drives me crazy
No offense though to those who love it
