FANTASTIC! I'd known Big Jay from just one record, his wonderful blues song, "There's Something on Your Mind" from 1957. (Many artists did excellent covers, such as Etta James and BB King.) Only today did I learn that he's a tenor sax great, and the vocals on "Something" were by Little Sonny Warner. YouTube is such a wonderful creation. Thanks for posting this. Long live this great music.
Big Jay came to our high school in 1958, North Providence, RI and wailed with his lighted sax. About 10 years ago he was at Johnny D's in Somerville, MA and nobody knew who he was. It was like a private concert and the peeps that were there certainly knew him after. What a show!
Accidentally ran across these videos. Could hardly believe my ears & eyes! Big Jay played in a club in Minneapolis back in 1955 and was all the rage. His band then consisted of he & Bobby, Harry James Allen on a tenor sax, a guy named Al on a stand-up bass. They were so good! Whatever happened to the rest of his band he had back then? Anyone know?

I'm so glad to know that he's still alive. I haven't seen him in over 15 years. He was a friend of my parents.
