Some Jeeps actually came with 4 cylinder diesels from 85-87. Mainly in Europe with a few in North America. However they were all notoriously unreliable.
giuilio004 is correct with this being the Renault 2.1 turbo diesel.
As for sabotsail6331, the small size of the exhaust pipe clearly tells anyone with mechanical knowledge that this is not the 5.9 liter turbo diesel. The sound is the other deciding factor, way too quiet with little 'diesel knock.' The 4bt is extremely loud even stock.
@un4gvngplsr the v6's where no better my old Comanche had the Chevy V6 trying to off road in sticky snow with that was daunting the thing would bog right down the best thing about it was the solid front axle. My toyota 2.4 4cyl put that thing to shame plenty of torc and the thing never got into anything it could not get back out of on it's own power. Love my Yoda 87 Toyota's are beast!
