He wasn't talking about audibly counting, but metaphorically, they are mechanically going through the movements. So his point, while I disagree, was that the routine looks cool, but lacks emotion.

Sorry but I disagree. This looks like the most fun routine I've seen in a long time! There is a great sense of thrill from pulling off such well timed and clever movements, and it's great fun to watch. I don't see any lack of emotion, if that's what you're referring to. If you're comparing them to a freestyle, that's not what this competition is about. Freestyle is one thing, choreography is another. =)
