  • i've been looking for this technique everywhere !!! thanks !

  • ADRIAN!!!!!!

  • can you put a different sound profile into collision other than that shitty sounding xylophone? can you do collision with say, ambient piano?

  • where are the collision? :S i dont find in instruments

  • the bass in the intro is kiiiiiller plz explain how to make it :p

  • i can't tell if you're italian or native american...

  • Is it reccomended that I buy Ableton live and then buy loops and samples or buy ableton suite and buy loops and samples

  • If you want good samples that work in garage band and ez drummer(also logic, fl studio, live, etc in wav format), check out my sample. 23,500 of them. They aren't suck like the generic sounds going around.

  • Were do you find the so called "Swing"? its not in my ableton menu..

  • hey there, i have nothing inside the groove-folder... why?

  • when i add the swing it doesnt change anything....

  • Amazing midi

  • wow, this was very helpful!! It really has that minimal/tech house sound.

  • Yes, you will learn about all of the different native Live devices (instruments, audio effects, and MIDI effects) and how to use them functionally and creatively. As for Collision, it's a physical modeling synthesizer used to simulate the timbre of mallet percussion instruments. To get that Dirty Vegas sound using Live's devices, try a traditional subtractive synth like Analog or a frequency modulation synth like Operator. Experiment with the built in filters and LFOs to find your sound.

  • useless tutorial

  • thank you very much, very helpful tutorial :)

  • Thanks I learned quite a bit

  • Check out the Dubspot Online school coming soon! We're going to be covering techniques like this as well as much more!

  • @DubSpot i plan to go to your online school and also the main school in ny, do you guys teach everything? from eqing to effects? and im trying to get that dirty vegas style sound from days go by, could this be done with collision?

  • @BLAZE45 Yes, you will learn about all of the different native Live devices (instruments, audio effects, and MIDI effects) and how to use them functionally and creatively. • @DubSpot wow thanks for the tips

  • @BLAZE45 About your Online School, it is Free? i also wanna learn how to create a Banger Techno Sound like 1605 guys do. im trying it, but its difficult !

i can create a nice 4-4 beat but then i need some effects and that stuff to get the track more exciting and unpredictable, and i dont do that pretty well!

    cheers!

  • @nelsonthekinger The Dubspot Online School is not free. We do offer contests to win free classes though and are planning to offer some scholarships as well to qualified applicants. Check blog.dubspot.com for more info.

  • @DubSpot Thanks!

  • damn, you are good!

  • very good tutorial mate! like it when people do this

  • aw you should finish that with a song. it sounds dope!

  • Great tutorial! A lot of ideas with Collision now...

    Thanks!

  • Ceck my new track that I produced using this tutorial watch?v=sj9AVl98C7U

  • this is very cool. Gives me some good ideas.

  • Wow thanks, realised everything over audio effect by now.

Didn't expect grooves to be helpful for minimal.

Yeah gotta try this when my new krk monitors arrive :D

  • sikkkk!

  • He sounds live brad pitt in fight club. picture this guy reciting the rules of fight club.

These tutorials are the best ive seen on youtube.

    Thanks a bunch.

  • Taught me some new tricks, thanks. Can you do a tutorial on how to make your own grooves (midi) and add them to the groove pool?

  • no, he sounds like Keanu Reeves. lol, imagine him doing instructional videos...

  • @donrafaeli ha! good one -- ableton live is the matrix...

  • u kinda sound like traveler from infouplink

  • Sounds like John Redcorn which is awesome. Thank you.

  • Hey man, has anyone ever told you that you almost sound like Sylvester Stallone?

    Cheers for the tutorial! :)

  • hahaha

  • hi that drum loop is so good. lovely base. i cant make a kick drum with the same kind of base. can you show how to make that?

  • do you mean groove 16-55?

  • jip

  • Where do i get the "grooves/swing" from. can't find it anywhere :(

thankx for the great tutorial :)

  • You can get to the grooves by right clicking in the groove pool. then select "browse grooves". Or - in clip properties, click the hot swap button next to the grooves dropdown, that will take you to your grooves folder. Also, the grooves are located in your Live Library in a Folder named "Grooves". check your preferences to find out where your Library is located. Hope that helps.

  • These are my fav type of vids. Micheal Hastis is a proper legend and guru in my books.

  • Amazing tutorial - 1 comment tho, let us hear a little bit you talk most of the time =) but awsome job im defintly gona try that out today!

  • Your awsome dood keep it up!!!

  • all ur videos are amazing FACT !! thanx

  • How come you have so many different grooves such as 16.3, 16.4, 16,5 etc..?

I just bought Live 8 suite, and I only have 16.05, 16.15 etc?

    Anyways, great tutorial! Enjoyed it!

  • The ones Im using are the grooves that come stock with Live 8. I believe they are installed when you open Live for the first time. also, check my reply to "AlemanBruno" above, that might help. Enjoy!

  • Hey nice work. One question. How do I create the drum sound?

    Thanks for your help.

    alex

  • i'm trying to figure out how to do this or something similar to it on reason. do you guys have any tutorials for reason 4?

  • @steveshort4steven

it is impossibile in reason. it's another kind of software with a lot of limitations

  • What is the difference between using a midi effect rack rather than just dropping midi effects into the track view?

  • If I were to just put the MIDI effects inside a MIDI effect rack and Leave it alone. There would be no real difference beside the fact that I could save the Rack as a preset and recall it later. The real beauty of Racks is when you start experimenting macros and multiple chains then splitting the chains by Note or velocity.

    - Michael

  • ableton is confusing as shit i couldnt figure shit out on the demo hopefully when i go home and do this i can work it

  • Just stay with it...Lots of Practice and patience is needed.

    - Michael

  • nice dude. =)

  • it could be good, but how the heck do you launch collision lol?

  • If you own Ableton Suite 8 or purchased Collision seperately, It should be available in your Device Browser, under the Instruments category.

    - Michael

  • interesting but it does not work as well as you can see in this vid.

  • It should. I made the whole thing from start to finish in the video.

    - Michael

  • Dubspot, you guys are absolutely amazing... thank you SO much for taking the time to make these very in depth tutorials that are right to the point, easy to understand, clear voice, and amazing techniques!

    <33

  • Very nice - thanks for the great tips (and pro presentation)!

  • now i know how they do it, amazing - thanks!

  • Excellent!!

    5*

  • these tuts are the best!!

  • Very impressive!

  • man this app is so far more complicated than I thought. Can someone give me some advices where I can learn to handle the basics?

    Thanks a lot!

  • man i just fished around on you tube. with a little patients you'll see youre progressing. i've found just try to follow along with ableton open and read the manual as you go. visual aid and hands on. hopes this helps. don't get discouraged

  • Live's built in tutorials and Manual are a good place to start. The ableton website also has some good tutorials.

    - Michael

  • You help me a lot

  • check out Galen Behr & Leon Bolier - Acapulco :)

  • sounds actually great :D

  • :) nice filming :) great quality

  • thanx, gr8 tut

  • the random factor is essential in minimal techno.

I generally use massive where you can randomize everything with step sequencers, lfos, etc.

dBlue Glitch is another effect to really mess up everything

Thanks for pointing this up. gonna try this as soon as i have time to produce

  • Wow, it took me like two months to realize that I needed to watch this tutorial again. Thank you! This is very helpful... hope to incorporate some of this stuff quite shortly.

  • youve over complicated

    this ismuch easier way

    using envalope and legato see

Ableton Live demonstration #5 copy and pate tis into search window

use a minimal perc loop instead of a breakbeat loop

  • Sure. One of the great thing's about Ableton Live is that there are many ways to achieve similar results. As far as over complicating things, i don't agree with you there. But again everyone has a different workflow. This was meant as a quick way to show off a couple techniques and was not meant to be an all encompassing minimal tech video.

  • thanx a bunch fella your vids are real helpfull !

  • nice but how do you put play to your pattern

  • wow great tutorial! This definitely helps create some clever ideas with the step sequencing function.

  • very nice thank you

  • Nice my friend, thanks!

  • dope Minimal man!

  • excellent. youve made it so simple. thanks

  • Amazing.. Thanks

  • this was exactly what i was looking for. Now i how to figure out how to do it on reason 4

  • great

  • I didn't know any of this stuff about Collision. Huwow! THANKS for that.

  • can you do this with ableton 7 ?

  • you could.... but not as easily and smoothly. besides collision was introduced with al8.

  • WOW!

  • great tutorial you can also whack corpus on a return track and send ne thing u want to it i usually use it as a harmonic filler type effect to enhance sounds and create a new timbre you can get very cool textures doing this very very cool .

  • awesome tactic; nice job explaining it!

  • great tutorial cheers :-)

  • Ableton Live is just amazing!

  • man you can not believe how much i love this program

just order my live 8 suite

  • Sweet tutorial! 5/5

  • that bass pattern is sweeet it has a pitch up and down pitch.

wish he made a tutorial about this.

  • lol it's only 4 notes, 3 up and then one back down blow the root

    sine wave, bitcrusher.. tutorial over

  • :S ....

  • Ah men, I wish there was a tutorial like this for Reason 4. : P

  • Love the minimal techno sound, this is good information.

  • wow -- sick video guys. any chance we'll see some tutortial vids on live 8's tools for producing some progressive house?

and to those thinking of checking out dubspot, definitely consider doing so -- i took production classes there the past summer and loved it.

  • Thanks for he Feedback. We're always looking for Ideas. Any specific techniques your looking for?

  • i think there are a decent number of vids showing sidechaining how-to's, but interested to see if AL8 brings anything else to the table in that realm.

would love to also see how to create a bassline used on something like an anjunadeep label (so sounding like jaytech, komytea). i've heard a lot of those guys use analogue synths and wouldnt even know where to start w/o a sample library. cheers and thanks for asking :-)

  • Thanks again for the feedback - and your request is noted. If your looking for something analog sounding, you could always check out Ableton's Analog.

    - Michael

  • that was really helpful, thanks, keep with this great tutorials
