hi friend thanks for the recommendation of home theater out what to buy and sounds great thank you very much, but tengu a question What do you call those media that are behind the speakers?
hey why the PS3 dont work with 7.1 audio with optical out? it only works the 7.1 with HDMI out but i only have 1 HDMI here :( can i do something to make it work with my optical cable?
Optical has limited data transfer compared to the HDMI so it can't pass the of 7.1 data. 5100 has HDMI pass through and you can't get sound even if you connect HDMI. You should have a HD AVReceiver like Onkyo HTS6200 to get 7.1ch....
I have the ht7200 system and I have to say it is undeniable that when I run my sat hdmi pass through the reveiver I get some picture degradation, on some HD channels its more noticable then others but its always noticable. I now run my Sat. HDMI direct to TV and send Audio via optic to reveiver. My ps3 seems to look good with HDMI pass through so I dont know whats up with the Sat. HDMI pass through. Great system otherwise but runsV hot. I would take another look at the Denon/boston sys at B BUY
Pass through is only switching doesn't do anything for video it is as good as connecting direct to TV. PS3 doesn't require upscaling coz it has native HD and will be the best compared to all other sources. If you are upscaling any of the low res video of say Sat/VCR Onkyo7200 can upscale to max1080i which will not be equal to PS3 quality. System running hot is normal all high current Amplifiers runs hot nothing to worry. but provide good ventilation.
If you are getting Dolby Pl2x this is not the best for sound, remember DTS-HD,DolbyTrueHD are the best followed by DTS,Dolby Digital, if you are getting DPL2x etc it is still processing 2ch recording which is least qualty....
I'm trying to set up a home theater experience in my new apartment and I wanted to know if this is possible. I have a Mitsubishi HC1600 720p DLP Home theater projector and a PS3 and I was wondering if they would be compatible with this Onkyo system, in terms of both video and audio.
Man i'm from cancun, i have the same onkyo and i have a question, the dock conection send image to the screen, i have one i-pod shuffle it have no videos, but i'm asking for change my i-pod.
I setup up this surround sound system. I hooked up my PS3 via Optical but when I pop in a blu ray movie it only lets me hear it with PCM audio. How do I listen to my blu rays with digital audio not PCM. When I try to switch it to DTS it says none detected. I want full dolby digital audio with my blu rays. Please Help
Switch your PS3 to Bitstream instead of PCM. If you ever get another receiver with HDMI audio capabilities then you would want PS3 to output PCM so that it will decode and send out Dolby True HD and Dts HD-MA. Optical will only do DD and Dts.
how do you set up audio and video so you get video from the composite auxiliary input and put the video out through hdmi. Customer support hasnt responded and its been a week. any help would be greatly appreciated
Hi, the HDMI is just a pass through in this system, this will not convert composite to HDMI, it will o/p, same input to same o/p, i.e, Component to Component, Svid to Svid and HDMI to HDMI, This will also not accept audio through HDMI i/p.
Hope this makes sense. the feature you are looking for is in other higher ranges of Onkyo but not in HTS5100
Very Sad to find out the Onkyo HTS 5100 doesn't output Audio from HDMI cable, it's very dumb, it has 3 HDMI input but only 2 Optical inputs. I am trying to setup PS3 with Onkyo HTS 5100 and only from your video found out that HDMI output doesn't provide audio.
I just bought the Omnimount AB2 for the speakers and I don't understand how to mount the little bracket to the speakers? I'm suppose to use the keyhole set up right? If so, how do you do it? I'm having big problems with them, please help me I'm going crazy!!!!
Just follow the instructions of AB2, First you will have to fix omnimount supplied lever to the speakers you can't use key hole for this and that will get fixed to AB2.
So I can't use the keyhole set up because there is no hole in the speaker box right? So I should use the other mount that is supplied, the one I have to screw it to the speaker box to hang it, am I right on saying this?
You can connect it in the front input of AVReceiver i.e., LeftRight and Video or assume you are connecting another DVD player and repeat the same as for PS3. Connect HDMI for Video and Optical cable for Audio
why does the hdmi cable not provide audio like everything else that uses hdmi, i mean thas the whole purpose of hdmi, is to have a 1 cable solution for audio and video.
Good question, this being the fist generation HDMI model only supports HDMI pass through/Switcher, this is helpful if you have 3 HDMI source and 1 HDMI input in TV. This acts as a switcher. As of now only expensive models supports HDMI ;).
so basically it will switch between components but only for video, then you have to use optical or composite for audio. also u mentioned the other models, how is the 6100? i seen it cost more money, is 1200 watts with a 290 watt sub which is the same as the 5100, i did notice the speakers from the 6100 and up seem to be slimmer, how does te 610 compre to the 5100?
Yes, it works as just a switch. HTS6100 has HDMI video upconversion to 1080i, here the receiver will convert all video inputs to HDMI and also accepts audio via HDMI.
so if i get the hts6100, i would connect a HDMI cable to each component, and then plug them into the HDMI inputs on the reciever, and then plug another HDMI cable into the HDMI out on the reciever and run that to the HDMI input on the TV? Doing this would give me 1080 video and i would get sound to all components.
Great video, I was told the Onkyo AS240 speaker stands will work for the front speakers, is this correct? I just purchased the Omnimount AB2 for the Sat. speakers and the center. Thanks for the info.
How much HTS5100 cost in Delhi(Please inform best possible discount available and shop address, as I have to come from Roorkee to Delhi to buy it). Recently I saw HTS3100 in CROMA for Rs.18,000/-(MRP approx 31,000). So please let me know best prices for HTS5100.
Thanx for the comments, Onkyo supplies color coded cables along with the system. Of course if you need better quality I suggest Audioquest X2/G2 cables at least for the main L/C/R.
Thanks for the response :) HTS5100 is Home theater in a Box(HTIB) package, TX series is sold as only AVReceiver and you will have to choose speakers iPod dock seperate.
Thanks a lot for the video :O) I bought Onkyo HT-S5100 last night, for my husband Christmas Present, and was very nervous about this purchase, but seeing it on the video and easy connections I think I made a right choice. Thanks a lot.
What is the difference in HT -S5100 and TX models?
Thanks alot man! Info that came with 5100 did not explain the way U did- about the HDMI not working for audio!!!! Made the difference and fixed my problem in less than 30 sec from not working to working!!!
can u connect your home theater system just using hdmi ... do u have to use optical or the other stuff ...?

One other minor but important complaint. It claims to automatically lower the sound for commercials but it doesn't work.

hey ...so how do you like your onkyo HTS5200. im thinking about buying the 5200 and wanted to ask how u like it 7 months later. lol

I like it a lot. Great sound but the HDMI is pass thru, which means no sound through HDMI, so for that reason I can't recommend it.

Nevermind I figured it out I had to switch it to bitstream. SO MY ? is whats better DTS Dolby or Linear PCM for my blu rays?
drew118183 2 years ago
You got it right, DTS or Dolby is better coz it offers 5.1/6.1 discrete channels and PCM offers only 2ch. See my other video HD Audio.

so my PS3 is set to linear PCM, is bitstream better???
