  • Damn, Roky has a pretty good voice.

  • pure and raw...just like it should be ...Long Live Roky ... we love ya!

  • The Aliens and The Explosives were perfect backing bands for Roky-tight and loud. This is great!

  • I've always loved his live sound with the Explosives; it's great to actually watch them. Thanks for posting. Any chance "The Wind And More" is also on that Beta?

  • Roky looks pretty "present" here, compared to some of the other videos ive seen.

  • living life through prescribed psychotropic chemistry can do wonders for a schizophenic when they are use them.

  • Roky Erickson & the Explosives - Halloween is my favorite roky cd along with dont knock the rock!

    god bless u roky erickson!

    your music sooths my soul!

  • buena calidad

  • Man, what a killer performance. Thanks for posting.

  • I'm going to assume that the usage of the word "bummer" here is because of disappointment over only having the secondhand beta footage, and not because of Roky's performance... which is just awesome.

  • bummer? I don't get why you said that???

  • This leadguitar is amazing, above everything..

  • I wish I could see Cam King's fuzz pedal !

  • "Godzilla should not be harmed he should be studied."

  • Jammin version. Roky is on top of his game here.

  • Great version, if I'm not mistaken it's the fantastic Cam King on lead guitar. A perfect monster has no end

  • What a great clip. Thank you for posting!

  • Damn, can't wait to see him August 20th!

  • i fail to see how this could possibly get a reaction of "what a bummer"

  • This was a gig at Soap Creek

  • No matter what hedid,

he always had that signature 13th Floor Eleavators voice.

  • Wonderful

  • It's postings like this that continue to make YouTube the greatest jukebox in the history of popular music. By the way, my first VCR was a Sanyo Betacord that cost $750 in 1978 and must have weighed close to 50 pounds.

  • Killer stuff. Are they playing in a Lone Star restaurant?

  • No, that's a Lone Star Beer sign. I'm pretty sure the venue is Raul's, which closed down many years ago.

When I lived in Austin in the 80s/90s I often saw Roky along the UT Drag (Guadelupe). He was pretty much homeless at the time and struggling with mental health problems. Several times I stopped an talked to him and gave him cigs. I understand he's finally gotten some decent treatment and is doing a lot better.

  • this is why i like youtube, all the cool background stories comments. thanx!

  • I've said this before but I have to say it again - beyondthebeat is the King of Ytube. This Roky clip is pure magic! I saw The Man play last year and he was getting into great form once again.

  • cool, any chance of makin this embeddable for a while

  • Love Roky's voice on this one! Like shards of glass going right through you! Keep on keepin' on Roky!

  • Wow!! Thanks, Hans!

  • Cold Night For Alligators, cool, respect Rocky!

  • It is a little depressing that all the oldies will fade away if we let them.
