  • Why do some people putting up these vids, always cut the song off before it's even over?

Fuck! I'm tired of this shit. We like to hear the end of the song, including the audience reaction....or don't bother putting it up...assholes! Ok. I'm done. lol

  • I think Robin knows that between his skillful guitar and Jimmy's very unique and soulful voice, it was pure music magic. He finally found Davy, and he was after that style, as close as anyone can be to Jimmy Dewar. This will always be the voice of Robin Trower.

  • Anyone notice all have shortend there hair for the start of 1980.

  • @6was9 aye lol

  • Dewar was definitely a big part of the sound and success of the band. What a full soulful voice.

  • @doghousemine Especially in the tune "Bridge of Sighs".The guitar in that tune so fucking uncanny to say the least.A certain mood to be in to enjoy that tune at the extreme.

  • I so love this tune/wynn

  • @rexforth Jimmy Dewar is probably my favourite singer even after all these years . His vocals were a major part of the band's success I'm sure . I always wondered why Robin split with Jimmy in the early 80's as they had so much success . Maybe the parting was no so amicable which was a great shame . Dewar remains the greatest least known rock singer of all time .

  • Dewar is GOD of all rock voices. PERIOD.

  • great song..thanks. .

  • Nice bit of rock ... :)

  • hell yeah, I used to rock to this 30 years ago and it's still as good now as it was way back then, Robin Trower rocks forever

  • rip james dewar...we love you for all the magic you gave us..

  • god that song just keeps warming up and up

  • One of the ALL TIME Best Vocals in Rock to go with one of the best Guitarists. what a great song.

  • My all-time favorite Robin Trower song. What a loss in the world loosing Jimmy Dewar. RIP Jimmy Dewar!

  • My all-time favorite Robin Trower song. What a loss in the world loosing Jimmy Dewar. RIP Jimmy Dewar!

  • one of the greatest

  • i bet when he cried as a baby it sounded just like this.

  • Forget all the bad about dewar.remember the good.like he was a gr8t singer, decent bassist. RIP.

  • too bad they never made south america, in Brazil we love them. DEWAR'S VOICE IS AMAZING.

  • Dewar!!!!!!!

  • fuck thats a top song

  • This is the first time I have heard this for 30 years. I saw them do it live at Liverpool Empire. Unfortunately, I thought that the concert ws boring but just watching this makes me think that it was more likely my immaturity that was to blame than anything else. Sounds pretty good.

  • I think it was his first trip to the state but I got to see the original band, outrageous, They opened for Frank Zappa in Lincoln Neb. James was incredible, whatever happened it was a tremendous loss to Rock history

  • Wow, I love this tune/wynn

  • Dewar is the fuckin best singers today couldnt do what he did....!!!!!!! Soul guys!!!!! Soul!!!!!! give me goosebumps

  • Agreed...fantastic voice. Wish I had experienced it first-hand.

  • Marvellous video. J.D. should be inducted into the Rock n' Roll hall of fame pronto. I saw the classic Trower, Dewar & Lordan lineup at Glasgow Apollo back in the day. Awesome. Anyone else with memories of that gig ?.

  • awesome! the original line up, thumbs up!

  • i hope James Dewar...gets his due...he was a top notch performer...with a very distinctive voice and bass style...he deserves more recognition

  • Seems to me Jimmy did a lot of the heavy lifting in the group. Not taking anything away from RT. Every song JD did was great!

  • I saw this tour in 1980 in St. Loius @ Kiel Opera House Great concert, great venue!!!

  • @dmandres1 I saw it in Houston at the Music Hall.

  • james's bass beat is so tight!

...vocals always out there on the limit, his voice is so soothing to me for some reason, no one else is like that in rock history

  • Don't remember exact details, but Trower went away from James to work with Jack Bruce and then Davey Pattison, for whatever reason.

James had a stroke at some point in the 90's, died a few years later. What a singer. "Bluebird" and "About To Begin" are still great 'mood music' if you get my drift ; )

  • To bad he left James behind he would have made all those other Trower albums much more powerful!

  • I abslolutely agree; Pattison did a creditable job, but NO ONE could be better suited for Trower music than James Dewar.

  • @misteraytch Mr. Dewar passed May 16th ,2002.I first saw RTB in 73 or 74 at the Houston coliseum. all u guys are correct Mr.Dewar had the best voice in rock

  • @JAB5450

Paul Rodgers was amazing with Free and up there with Jim Dewar in my opinion. Now he's with Queen. Well, I guess in terms of musical craftsmanship Queen is quite a good band, but...Jesus, that's not the way I want to remember Paul Rodgers. Should have disappeared from the scene while he still had a little edge left in him.

  • Great Jam,Thanks for posting.

  • James Dewar was the greatest voice in Rock... he is greatly missed....

  • Did James pass away? I wondered why Robin has had a couple new singers as of late.

    James was GREAT!

  • Saw Trower Wednesday night at the Variety Playhouse in Atlanta, I've seen him about 10 times. Some friends got a pick and an autograph. Sure miss Dewar though, Robin is always great, never better at 64, but the vocals just aren't close to the same. Guess they can never be.

  • Going to see him TONIGHT 10/14/2009 in ATLANTA at the Variety Playhouse! :~D

  • woohoo...I went too!

I've wanted to see him since I first heard Bridge of sighs back in the early 70's.

An outstanding show and great sound.

I took 5 of my friends who weren't that familiar with him and they were FLOORED!!!

    Rock on Robin Trower!!!

  • Jimmy Dewars voice was as much a part of Robin Trower as Trower's guitar was. There will never be a voice like his.

  • @PhiloLynott Phil, have alisten to Sal Iacobucci and Twice Removed.

Like you say, there'll never be another singer like Jimmy, but this guy is so so so close.

  • i listened to the sal dude to me he doesnt sound anything like jimmy, not that he is a shit singer but he aint in dewars league

  • Awesome footage! Dewar was a monster.

  • Saw Trower at Royal Oak this year, and boy, does he miss Jimmy. His sound system was messed up all nite, and he refused to stop and let the guy fix it. Shjame. Not like the old days...all they care about is getting the money and leaving.

  • i saw gary moore in april he rubbish al he dod all night was tell fans to fuck off the mans a twat

  • i went to pittsburgh pa to see trower and when i got there the show ws sold out. on the way home i got lost in the city and while stopped a traffic light i ask the guys in a car that pulled up next to me how to find a certain road. they said they weren't from there. turns out they ran sound for trower and sent me back to the club as a guest. got to meet robin and had front row seats...so cool

  • James Dewar brought a lot of feeling to RTB with his great voice

  • Dang I had a $1.00 bill signed by Trower and I spent it...And a fiver signed by Vai...Also spent it...But I did shake both of their hands...Awesomely nice people...My buddy won a squier strat from Robin and he asked him to sign it..Trower said,do you really want me to mess it up?? truely a sweet man...

  • We need new people like this jammin on our tv sets....Erase all that other clutter.

  • Amen.

  • James Dewar had one of the best voices in rock. A true original.

  • Robin Trower Live 6/7/2009 Tulsa, OK.

    Cains Ballroom

    Trower rules!

  • im going to that show!

  • excellent footage!

  • best strat player???!!!!

how about: Mick Mars, Dave Murray, Adrian Smith, Eric clapton, Rictchie Blackmore, Mark knopfler, Jimi Hendrix.....

  • Thank God Almighty that Robin Trower is on my list of favorite artists since last year or else I would kill myself ...

  • Robin has always been and always will be my favorite Strat Player.

  • fuckin a1

  • Robin hails from my neck of the woods, and has a younger brother brad trower, whom is also a gr8 guitar player,we was in a band together a a dual gtr line up,back in 1983 !!,and used to rehearse at their parents place, which was cool !!

  • One absolute kick assed album. For those of you that have never heard it in it's entirety? Find it......and listen.

  • Hey what year was this from? Great player ,one of the all time !!

  • 1980

  • jd is a egend of voice, can we comapre him to alex ligertwood of 80s santana, a scottish fella with yet again a distinctive voice.2 of my heroes of voice!!!

  • great great great!

the strat heroes are still the finest! Robin, Jimi and the early Uli Jon Roth! Music for ages....

  • Amazing, just listen to JD's voice 'shadows in the dark' at 1.54

  • That's what you call Groovy, sometimes. :)

  • R.I.P. Mr Dewar

  • Brilliant....the Live In Stockholm album has to be one of the very best live albums that I have. Thanks for posting!

  • What a "bang for your buck" Jimmy was. A great bassist and an even better vocalist. I love Trower, but he was/is not the same without Jimmy.

  • Jimmy Dewar a white man with the soul of a black man his voice was just unreplaceable. R.I.P.

  • I sure miss that voice!! I was 13 when I bought Bridge of Sighs ! 17 when I first took acid and saw Robin , What a show!!

  • humbly thankful to be able to say i saw trower

w/ jimmy in the states way back when

no acid handy but none needed either as the music and stage lighting set the mood very nicely by themselves

but your 'what a show' comment is right on the mark

one of the best ive ever seen

    sure miss jimmy dewar

  • does acid make a show better? ive been thinking about trying it

  • No. It amplifies whatever feelings or stimulus you are having, so imagine being at a loud concert packed in with strangers and strange lights... paranoia time! Stick with MJ if you have to try something

  • @justinisboss Just do that at home with a wide range set of head phones, preferably one that can get down to 10k

  • Right on Turdslinger, good one! How about Only Time, About to Begin, and In This Place? You got those too?

  • FUCK! thats so drivin fuckin great!

Victims of fury.........oh man the groove is so great!

  • I love this track. Sound good live but the album version is amazing. Where is my guitar, im gunna rock out to it now!

  • Do you have the tab for this ?

  • sorry I didnt meant sailing,,, sheeesh I meant caledonia?????? my bad,,, I am getting old,, :o)

  • hey turdslinger,,,is there a video of or has someone done one for Sailing???

  • rockin-robin

  • top 15 greatest guitarist

  • so smooth, so Great, Victims of Fury.

  • i saw him live at the astoria 2 yesterday. woop, he has aged a bit.

  • Robin Trower ,at times, was the greatist guitar player ever....I know he is in my top 3

  • i have to agree,such beautiful melodies

  • is Dewar in the hall yet?

  • hell no, dewar is too good for that shit! dewar needs to be in the hall of gods!

  • ok send me a ballot, I'd like to vote for his acceptance.

  • @turdslinger The "Hall of Fame" is about popularity, not talent. Screw 'em anyway.

  • @TheEvilDrR Not even popularity - Just by how much you suck up to the "Selection Committee"...

  • @turdslinger AMEN !!!!!!!!!!!!

  • great video, classic Trower, can you post 'Jack and Jill' (also from v of f lp)???

  • guh-REAT song! SO glad it's posted! thank YOU

  • jimmy dewar f n great to young missed him crapp

  • I always loved the way DeWar pronounced "overturned" on this cut."Then the world collapsed all around us..And the tables "ovahtoined".Classic!!

  • I saw a show from this tour in St.Louis,MO.Uh huh..yep..uh huh.

  • classic!!! TROWER never disappoints

  • Robin Trower live in Stockholm is brilliant!

  • Love trower only 13 but got love it!!!!!!

  • I first got into Trower when i was 14..in 1977...still kills me now..just keep coming back to him..listened to every guitar player I have time to over the last 30 years but Trower, Kossoff and Jeff Beck still stand out way above the crowd for me.

  • met Trower in Dallas in the early 80's, super nice guy.

  • What did the Dewar die of?

  • pneumonia.

  • yes , after nearly being killed by a anestesiologist who left him almost brain dead - botched opperation I heard

  • I have heard conflicting stories. I have heard that a leg operation went wrong after anesthetic was used, and i have heard that he suffered a stroke after over 20 years of drinking and drugging. I dont know what is true, but you would have to do a WHOLE LOT of drugs to give yourself a stroke.

  • @turdslinger Glenn Gould went out that way after years of doctor shopping for his crazy pill mixes

  • Sadly he died in the hospital in my home town..right next to the music shop where i used to buy all my guitars and amps...Croydon..great gtr shop there back in the late 70's.

  • Jimmy died in Dykebar Hospital in Paisley..a good guitar player friend of mine was with him.

Do a search for Big George and The Business on youtube

  • Aha...i read something different...it must have been another musician..thanks for putting that straight.

    D

  • I've been a Trower fan for as long as I can remember. I was raised listening to his music, and this has to be one of my two favorite songs of his, this and Little Girl. Someday I will get to see him play, as the one time I did, I was only four and don't remember it...

  • You are lucky to be raised on Trower! those are my two favourite songs too!

  • The club you are thinking of I believe was Fenders Ballroom

  • Saw him at Fenders and at the Swing on the Victims Tour. I've seen him probably 10 times over the years and IMO this was the best tour...

  • I saw him in 1975 in Philadelphia. Actually, it was my first concert. I haven't seen him since, but I have tickes for the March 15th Atlantic City show.

  • I saw Robin in Long Beach, Ca in @'83. I waited in line for 4 hours and finally I saw him cross the street from the hotel into the front door of the club. Amazing performance, I'll never forget. Anybody else there? I don't remember the club.

  • I believe the club might have been Fenders Ballroom. I think it was on 2nd st near Atlantic.

  • He tiyuring the states im seeing him at berkly Boston and its just about sold outI saw him in the 70s 80s and 90s

  • I just had a random thought of this song and wondered if there was a video of it here on YouTube.Well I'll be damned!!

  • at least some of us know what is soulful!

  • Been playing guitar since I was 10 and am now 46.Trower was one of my major influences. And Dewar with that unbelievably powerful yet at most times restrained vocal ability?WOW!!Whadda band...

  • It kinda saddens me though that the only tour I ever saw Trower on was "Victims Of The Fury".Still have my concert shirt though. Will til' my dying day.

  • why dont you try and see him on his current tour?

  • it was very obvious that robin trower was the front man in this band...but james dewar...definitely is the voice...to carry the songs...and what a voice...i personally envy anyone who got to see Duane Allman play live...

  • i am sorry to hear that James Dewar has passed away...i saw the band live in 1980...they were the essential power trio...

  • were dewars vocals clear in the mix?

  • yes...it was the capital theatre... new jersey...there might even be a bootleg...available

  • I am very envious of you for having seen the great man live!

  • Yeah maybe.Whats the deal with that anyhoo? Trower the frontman? He is in essence just the lead guitarist. Was he the main writer?...or just really ego heavy!? lol

    :¬)

  • i think he was the main writer, and he was famous before so the band was garunteed some sales. a bit like if slash started a band and didnt sing, he might still call it slash to gauruntee sales.

  • Yeah that makes sense.

    :¬D

  • robin trower had played with and had some fame with Procal Harum...before he set out on his own...

  • Was Dewar a really nervous sort of dude? He never seems to speak on the mic....EVER!

    :¬)

  • I dont really know, he does seem confident and relaxed on the midnight special videos, he adds little bits into between his lyrics. maybe he doesnt speak cos robin was supposed to the frontman?

  • Seems I remember this album and Nazareths "Expect No Mercy" were two very underrated records around the same time.

  • Is this from "Rock Goes To College"? I remember watching RT on that show and being completely knocked out. I bought the LP "Victims Of The Fury" and it became one of my all time favourite albums.

  • Twice Removed from Yesterday,For Earth Below,Bridge of Sighs, thay we're my foundation for my Love of the Blues.Thank You ROBIN

  • I read on Pollstar dot com that Robin Trower is on tour going into 2008.

  • I really liked this album...good straight forward rock with some soul to it. All of Trower's albums were unique and each had it's own signature style or direction that it went off in...which is a good thing. His music has never gotten stale...some albums may have been a little better than others but all were pretty good really.

  • so true, he was never content to cash in on a proven formula. i think this may be his best album overall.

  • Does anybody know what exactly happened to Dewar anyway? Did he become ill...have an accident or what? I never really knew the details.

  • I believe he died from complications of surgery. A tragic loss!!

Saw them live in 79 at Santa Monica Civic Auditorium.

  • As I understand it, Jimmy went into hospital in 1987 for what was a routine and fairly minor leg operation.

But something went wrong during the operation and he suffered a stroke, and possibly a degree of brain damage.

From 1987 until his death in 2002 he spent most of his time in psychiatric hospitals as he was unable to do much for himself, and had little recollection of what had happened.

The most tragic story in rock AFAIC.

  • Seems like I did read something about brain damage from a stroke but wasn't sure how it happened. Yes very tragic....I'm sure he and Trower would have continued to played together at least sometimes had he still been around and in good health.

  • slammin, yeah!

  • I think that 1980 St. Louis concert was aired on the king biscut show and later released on CD.

  • Turdslinger ,you are Right-some of the best singing you can hear is right here and great playing

  • Saw this 1980 Victims tour in St. Louis, Kiel Opera House. I need to see RT again....just missed him Houston last Fall.

  • Thats great, how was Trower? How was Dewar? Lordan put on a good show?

  • Jimmy was an invalid from 1987 until his death in 2002.

  • I know, what a shame, RIP.

  • Jimmy, along with John Lawton have been the most underated vocalists in the history of music.

  • Very true. Jimmy is the best I have ever heard.

  • It's a difficult call to seperate Jimmy Dewar, John Lawton, and Paul Rodgers. Jimmy had the soul voice, Paul the blues voice, and John the most powerful and versatile voice.

I always wonder if Jimmy would still have that voice today if he hadn't had that medical accident in 1987. Lawton and Rodgers are still belting it out as good as ever...which is rare.

  • I think Dewar was much better than rodgers at blues,in fact far better than rodgers overall. I need to hear this Lawton guy.

  • Check out the first album by Lucifer's Friend to hear John Lawton. "Ride the Sky" video is on this site.

  • mais quand passera t-il en France?!

    théo

  • Robin Trower is one of my favorite guitarists of all time! Thanks for the video!

  • Dewar was one of the Best singers of all time

  • In fact, I wish somebody would make a whole freaking 2 hour documentary movie about the band back then, they were something else! :) I wish I could win the lottery or something so I could personally finance that project! :)

  • Great idea. Im sure a documentary of the band will be released some day.

  • I sure hope so... That would be so awesome! :)

  • Wow, thanks for posting this one :) Saw them 3-16-75 in Los Angeles, what a concert that was!

  • Was James Dewar great live?

  • Oh, yeah, he was great! The whole band was great. The videos of Robin in concert in London in 1991 remind me a lot of the concert I saw that night. This was at the LA Shrine, so we're talking major, major concert. The place was totally packed, and the noise was incredible. The audience was really getting into it - I know the band must have been picking up on that. I wish I had some pictures or video.

  • I saw this tour at the Tower Theater, Philadelphia in 1980. Superb show.

  • Ok great, err is that johnnyreason@yahoo?

  • Yes sir that is correct. Send your mailing info and I will send it out to you. Have a great weekend.

    J. Reason

  • Hey TS thanks for posting another great Trower video. This stuff is awesome...and as you know quite hard to find. Having met Robin on 3 occasions I can also tell you that he is a super guy who always seems to have time for his fans. Do you have any autographed Trower items? Thanks again for posting this for Robin's fans. We all owe you one!!!

  • Thanks johnny. Go to a torrent site and you can download the whole gig. unfortunately i have never met Robin nor do i have any autographed items. I will try to post The shout/Hannah soon.

  • Soon I will be going through my Trower collection

and can send you an autograped ticket stub from a concert in Indianapolis on the Passion tour in 86 at

the Vogue Theatre. Tell me if you would like to have

it and I will send it to you. I was lucky & got both

of my tickets signed that night. I never sell Trower items from my small collection but I will gladly donate one to you for free. Let me know & thanks again for sharing your music.
