To be really honest this song basically reminds of how fragile my heart was wen i was younger and i cud even remember my first love and how deeply in love i was with her and it turns out i have not fallen in love with another girl half as much i as i did at first
diana ross, truly one of the very great stars that we have left, when shes gone what will we be left with,a very depressing thought, ive seen her perform live on numerous occasions and she is mesmorising, ill never forget it.
Reminds me of my 1st crush. I was 7,He was older, it was wrong, I didnt cair. He moved away and I havnt seen him since.....That was 27yrs ago. My mum use to play this song (LP of corse) and I copyd the album to play on my walkman. Oh the good old days :-)
great song, great era! I was born in 1981 but feel emotionally connected with this amazing atmosphere of the late 60s - early 70s..Miss Diana Ross is the best singer of that period!
I've loved this song for about 30 years. Used to drive my Dad up the wall when I'd work on my car in the garage, and instead of hard rock music coming from the boombox, I'd be playing a tape of THIS. It's a bittersweet song for me, reminding me of things that are beautiful in this world, but also making me remember how shy I was as a teenager, how my heart was so delicate, and how I've reluctantly moved on, never quite loving as deeply as I did the first time.
@Russebby I know what your saying this is a endless song with loads of meanings for me as a teenager when the world was very sweet and i was very inocent then.
@jarrah5298 Dude, I was a shy teenager in the mid-1980's. I didn't get laid back then because I was 16 and still had a delicate ego. I was also the only one of us who even had a car of his own. I didn't listen to rock or country while taking apart the brakes or sanding the fender, I was listening to a lot of Motown. Marvin Gaye, Temptations, Stevie Wonder, and THIS.
And not to be too much of a prick, but I wouldn't tell my story if this music was, in your words, shit.
@Russebby You had a "delicate ego" hahahahahahahahahaha!! All the respect to the great artistes (stivie, marvin,...) but "delicate ego" hahahahahaha :D you really made my laugh man!! :D i'm sorry if i have offended your "delicate ego" !! :D :D
this song reminds me of my best friend Axel Wozny, who left my primary school a few years ago. i am in year 8 and this song STILL reminds me... the difference being i didn't love Axel. I had eyes for another...
If you listen closely this song has 4 great hooks...one after another. Very rarely you get one good ´hook´ in any song. Just proves what a masterpiece this track is.
THIS was on TOTP??? It's interesting, but some of the pics either look quite a bit older (from TCB) or quite a bit newer and some of the clips look like the cover to the "Boss" album...
This is one of Diana Ross' lost gems, soulful, sad, bittersweet. It touches the heart because she does indeed sounds like a little girl waiting. When it came to putting feelings in a song, no one does it better than Diana Ross. One of the most fascinating woman to ever walk the earth.
I love diana ross...Always reminds me of my aunty ann who died when i was eight..She was just as gorgeous as Mis. Ross and this music always takes me right back to the precious too short a time i spent with her....She is missed..
In 1972 one hour before my friend died we both sat on his poarch and listened to this song. Whenever I hear this song the memories come flooding back. There will never be any point in time when this sadness will leave me.
It was a tragic accident. His motorcycle crashed with a car and he died about one hour after the accident. I was just a few feet behind him on my motorcycle and I saw it all. I will never forget that moment.
Those beautiful big eyes get me everytime.Diana can sing powerfully, she just rarely does it & anyone who says she cant hasnt seen her live at Caesars Palace where her vocals are really good & strong.I dont get why alot of people want her to sound like all the other SOUL singers.
Although I really enjoy listening to Miss Rose and watching her, I don't think she has a very powerful voice, very pleasant though. She can't be compared to Gladys Knight, Roberta Flack, Dusty Springfield and countless others/
@SusieKatz1 Yes she can...most people have not heard a whole diana album. over the years diana has sung all kinds of songs. she can be light and airy or sexy and husky and she can belt out a tune when she wants to. she just chooses to be soothing and thank god for that. she has a song and a voice for every occassion.
I agree. In that part she looks like a winged demon from hell. That background doesn't help either, LOL! I don't mean any disrespect to D.R., of course, but that was a freaky thing.
@n0gar so? you got to have a powerful voice to be a singer?? i remember when karn carpenter died and those who knocked her were suddenly saying she had the voice of an angel. diana has the voice of an angel not a fruit bat like some other divas have.
This reminds me of when everything seemed good. No divisions, all together, I knew of no other way where I grew up. We all seemed to love each other. I really miss those days.
Hi, I have commented to this song, but i really liked your thoughts to this record, please tell me more I am intrigued what you ment by divisions, I loved the line you stated 'we all seemed to loved each other; it just echoes my sentiments. please reply, i also miss those halcien days of bygone times
I absolutely love this tune and Diana Ross is just one of the most amazing women ever (after my mum of course) but I remember where I was when I first heard this record on holiday many years ago on a radio in a shop in Wales I loved it then as a young lad and it sounds just as amazing even today. I love you Diana what a tune!
Went to a disco Sept 19 1971, saw a beautiful girl, She danced with the same boy all night. They announced the final record this was it, The boy asked her to dance I saw her say no , I plucked up my courage asked her to dance and we celebrated our 33rd wedding anniversary last friday.
@drachir6 the early 70s were a great time all the live groups ,this record always reminds me of that time , what others can you remember ? can you remember soldier blue at the cinema. great times
@JazzinThe70s Great days, Too busy thinking about my baby, Marvin Gaye. Soldier Blue was probably the first film that shocked me. Something in the air ,Thunderclap Newman. Went to see loads of live groups, Stones, Doors, Although my personal favourite was Johnny Johnson and the Bandwagon. How did we manage without mobile phones?
@drachir6 yeah it was many years after 71 before we got our hands on mobile phones, the temptations just my imagination was another one, music was powerfull in those days, everything was better,if you went out with £20 you were loaded !
@JazzinThe70s The Temps, Nice One! Last week I met a friend I Haven,t seen since 1972, She keeps reminding me of songs that evoke such memories. Songs that can make me feel Happy, Sad ,Mellow and every emotion possible. I think music now has lost that. Just out of interest what was the first record you ever bought? Mine was Paperback writer. As the 70,s arrived I got into soul music, And still love it.
@drachir6 in the early 70s when i first started going out i was in to heavy guitar music hendrix, cream etc, everyone wanted to play a guitar like hendrix..we used to turn those amps right up ! haaaaa ,living in wild wales there was not much opportunity to go pro .i cant remember buying many records we always had loads of what i was into at the time.
@JazzinThe70s Good enough, I sent a lot of time in Rhyl ,Monkey Spanner by Dave and Ansell Collins, bring back memories of the Palace on the front at Rhyl. To coin a phrase , I,d trade all of my tomorrows for one single yesterday. (probably wouldn,t) Thanks for getting my memory going out of control. I saw Hendrix at the I.O.W festival just before he died ,wonderful!
@drachir6 hendix has been dead 40 years , where the F has 40 years gone ? time & tide wait for no man ! it must of been good seing hendrix live at the IOW . did you move on to motor bikes in the 70s ?
@JazzinThe70s Although I,ve always been into scooters I did have a Kawasaki ZZR 600 for a couple of years, I used to take my daughter out on the back and she,d sing Bat out of hell at the top of her voice, Still got a lambretta SX150 but only use it once in a blue moon. How about you?
@drachir6 yeah i had a few bikes honda, yamaha, suzuki,i bought this awful czech bike in 77 a CZ it was like something the flintstones used. funny enough i pased my test on a bike then packed them in , been looking at 70s bikes on ebay ?
@Neptunehugh Thank you for your nice comments, On this warm afternoon I,m in my garden with my grand daughter and a glass of wine , Does liife get any better. Thanks again!
@drachir6 aaaawwww thats so beautiful!!! that makes me cry!!! imagine nowadays, no man ever dotes on a woman, they all want them to 'drop it like its hot' and if girls dont act skanky they dont ever get ANY man. so its either be a whore and get laid or get nothing, not even marriuage. men dont have to try at all anymore. its just so sad. R'nB really changed...
@JeuneFilleaCarnival. Many of my friends are still married after many years, Love and romance will always be with us. Thank you for your kind comments.
@JeuneFilleaCarnival and yet men still have to beg for it and hope that someone will like them enough to have sex with them...it is way harder for a man to get it and it always will be because more and more women are using sex as a weapon...meanwhile, great song.
@cazaleah2 women make me sick...literally..I am a proud gay man who totally gets it about women..so I know thousands of men around the world have been falslyt accused of sexual abuse by your beautiful kind....i dunt want to get it! bye.
@wonderboyjoy - n wtf has sexual abuse or being gay got to do with anything??? i ant got a clue wot ya thought i wa sayin - i h8 arguing wi people - especially under such a gr8 classic like this
Such a beautiful song from summer 1971,my favourite from Diana throughout the seventies.Another one of her beautiful songs, which i could listen to til my time is up on this earth. This song will forever be alive and raidiant, and not date. Thanks for post to YT. A great enjoyment!!! Benja :-)

Remember this song from '71. Still one of my most favourite records ever! Emotional it iwas and emotional it still is.
I was only 11 years old when this was being played and it still sounds as good today as it did then. BRILLIANT!!!

Awesome song, not sure why it didn't do well in the USA, it did well in the UK. She doesn't even include this song in her USA shows.
