Roland are bringing out the AX-Synth later this year, it looks absolutely awesome and has it's own sounds built in so you don't need a separate midi :D

THe only keytar that is still in production is the Roland AX-Synth which just came out.Its around 1200US i guess.

How do you get all the keys to make a certain tone? I use a midi module (Yamaha FB-01) and the left half of the keys make this weird almost trumpet-like sound...

you don't have to learn how to play a keytar. its just a strap on keyboard. if you know how to play the piano, you know how to play the keytar.

But basically knowing how to play piano = knowing how to play keytar, you're right.

I have it connected to my computer. Ableton Live with the Slayer2 VSTi. I have the RealStrat VSTi now which sounds MUCH better although I think Slayer2 is pretty decent. :)

It is about the same as playing right hand lead keyboard. I'd suggest getting a cheap keyboard and learning how to play before buying a keytar -- but once you know how to play, it is totally worth it! So much more expression is possible with it (pitch bend, expression bar, D-beam, etc.)
