Obviously most people don't understand drag racing, and how a timing system works. Red light means dick shit, its beam sensor to beam sensor. No gimmicks, I think it is pretty clear which one had demonstrated itself to work best under these test conditions and procedures. The best, maybe not, but today with this test, yes, yes it is.
my titan did... 15.11 off the g-tech and 15.01 @ PBIS stock every thing 4x4... no intake... just flushed the trans and diffs with royal purple... plus good old 93 pump gas... does any one else have there numbers? just wondering... if i had a chip im sure i could drop into the 14s.... tail gate down... chrome and tow package
I see alot of people that think the uprev should run the best because it is "custom." They're most likely using the genaric tune for the titan. The only way you get any real power out of it is with a dyno, but they do offer a basic tune.
its not that, listen closely to how they stall their truck with every tuner out there. what helps our trucks out the most is the WOT restriction removal. oh and one more thing,... hypertech would never have helped me get into the 12's with their programmer. ask the gm guys they know custom tuning is 100x better than programmers.
@kha4554 I know custom tuning has it's benefits, but for the titan, unless you have headers and the more major mods, Uprev ain't gonna do a whole lot more than a handheld. The price has come down a little on ociris, but it's not that big of a deal.
I wouldn't use cuttouts on a titan. They need the back pressure. Also, is your truck single cab? That's the only way in hell a hemi is going to do mid 13's with cortex and exhaust. And I even doubt that.
I'm betting against your internet story but...anything can "happen" I guess. Bending an axle is highly unlikely...especially on the newer, stronger underspun models....but it helps your view so...I digress. The Titan is the stronger tow vehicle of the (half ton) bunch....although you'd be hard pressed today to find a real piece of junk pickup. All half tons today have an ind. front set-up and only the new Ram 1500 offers it in the rear...which lowers its' capacity due to less strength.
I agree with you on the 'axle bending'...these trucks are built stronger than what the motor puts out.. ex..My 05 F150 has a tranny and rear end (stock) that is designed to handle 750 ft. lbs tq ...even if I put a blower on it and a 100 shot it would barely be at that. The titan isnt built as strong as the ford though in the tranny and frame. But still, how can you bend an axle unless you hit a curb sideways doing 80?
Vvt. Variable valve timing. 07 and above has this. That's why they have 12 extra horse pwr. I think you're embelishing on your times. I'd say high 14's unless you've done more mods.
Im pretty sure that all of these tests were faked. I own a 07 Titan with a superchip cortex tuner, flowmaster exhaust, and AEM Intake and it'll run low 14's....
Test looks pretty accurate to me. You may be getting better numbers because yours is vvt. But I doubt you're getting low 14's from those minor mods. Flowmaster is restrictive, so no help there. I would almost believe you if you said high 14's. Like 14.9's. On a non vvt like the truck on the video, those times look pretty much dead on.
I am in the low 14s..but with huge motor mods..like 222/228 duration cams with 0.540" lift, springs, retainers, spring phaser limiters..intake, ford racing headers, aeroturbine exhaust, Brisk plugs, ported heads, 3000 stall, 4.10 gears..custom tune... still more to come like a new intake manifold...all on an extended cab stepside ford 150 3v 5.4L (6000 lbs truck) heaviest light duty pickup model currently sold. Top speed so far, 138 mph.
Hey Big....don't bother arguing because you're both correct. However, the "dead last" place he's refering to in one of the mags had nothing to do with real world numbers but with personal preferences from people who want to keep big 3 advertizing intact. I know this because I happen to know two of the testers from that mag. Anyone who's owned and towed with a Titan knows that they'll out-tow all except maybe for the more powerful Tundra. And it's about feel also, not just get up and go.
If u look on around on Youtube, you'll find a find that shows Chevy, Toyota, Ford, Dodge, Nissan in a trailer pull test with 6000 pounds of weight. Every maker listed has a truck that i like but the Titan just can't pull that weight with easy.
thats bullshit ive towed over 6000 pounds with my titan and it pulled better than any ford chevy or dodge ive ever owed ok besides my 02 power stroke. This includes any 3/4 ton Gas motor that i have ever owned.
Rather than comment on how it's BS, look at the vid. It's on youtube. It definitely changed my mind about owning a Titan to pull that kind of load. Also Nissan hasn't built enough full sized trucks to really be a competitor in the game. I'm a Nissan fan but they need to step it up a bit.
You are a dipshit and a dumbass. I will tell you to your face im not scared and no i am not talking about just owning a nissan titan im talking about owning a ford f-150 5.4l a chevy 1500 5.3l and a dodge with a hemi 5.7l. I get a new truck every 2 years. I pull tralers with a tractor that is around 7500 ponds plus the impament and the trailer. I just purchaced a Titan and the titan pulls the same equipment that i have pulled with the name vehicles and the Titan pulls better. I DONT NEED VIDEOS
ok you willing to back that up. There is a diffrence between driving them and seeing it on paper. As i said before I have never been a Nissan fan never owned one until now. The titan pulls the best out of the domestic vehicles i have ever owned. Im not going by what i read or what i watched it has been by accualy putting a trailer with weight on the trucks and driving them that has shapped my opinon. I live in Cleveland,Tx everybody i know that has one there says the same. Drive one b4 you dog
Paper huh? I never said anything about seeing anything on paper. I watched a test in real world conditions and the Titan wasn't that great in it. I've drove a buds 4 door Titan when the truck first came out. I can't say that I pulled anything with the truck and I liked the truck. I almost bought one myself. But seeing the test made me think. Period.
Look at the whole message before you comment i said "or watch videos". the videos on you tube are never equall you have to drive the vehicles for yourself. Look at who puts the video's out its going to be a rep for toyota so the toyota's going to have the advatage. If a ford rep puts the video on the ford's going to have the advatage. I have personaly drove the diffrent vehicles im not takeing somebodies word for it espcialy a rep for anyone company. Period
MAn you gott get Uprev for a tuner, its the only custom tuner. This video is whack. A handheld "one size fits all" tune can't compete with an Uprev CUSTOM tune. This was not an Uprev custom tune. Oh and it is not at all a waste of money. I went from running 14.9 at 91 to 14.5 at 92-92 with an Uprev tune. And I gained another .3 with headers and another .4 with a cusutom tune for that. Overall I've gained probably .6+ with Uprev, def NOT a waste of money
I agree with turbo240, trap speed is almost always an indicator of an increase in overall power. The E/T is almost completely based on your 60ft time, especially in automatics, and 60ft times rarely effect trap speed, unless of course the 60ft was really poor. Seeing that the trap speed never increased by more than 1 mph, it shows very little overall power increase. I was expecting a little more.
What a complete waste of money!!! Less than 1 mph gain in trap speed???! Seems like they just didnt launch the truck very hard with stock settings so they could get an improvement with the different tunes, but if they can sucker people in to buying this crap, I guess they did their job!
That's the nice thing about the uprev tune. They send you software to log data during acceleration and customize your tune to the specific specs of your engine. I would think that for this comparison a generic tune was used. I'm not sure if the other tunes offer something similar.
I agree the runs should have been done with some type of drag radial to keep the launch's consistent. The 60ft's were way different on the runs that spun more so that leave's too much of a variable to say that one is better than another. Also should try and have engine temp, ambient temp, track temp, tire psi, fuel level the same to eliminate those variables. Then that should give closer guess at which ones faster at least.
yeah...good video, good testing. but there is no way the hypertech is gonne give you faster 1/4 mile times than the uprev premium tune. but we appreciate the vid!
Have my Hypertech waiting for my cal for my 2012 Titan. Can't wait!

do you know how many jiffy lubes turn down the oil change on the 5.7? all mighty tundra...
