The problem lies in the fact that marriage has been handed over to the State when it is a institution of religion. The State should only be able to perform civil unions or domestic partnerships for both gays and straights equally. Marriage should only be performed by religious institutions. Gays could then go to those Faiths that accept gay marriage to be wed.
I would never take an apartment that wouldn't allow pets. I love my cats too much. It makes me sick when I see pets at shelters that were abandoned for this reason. Sounds like Mya will be with someone you know? I hope that's the case.
