  • Check out my 2009 chill out remix of Alright by Janet. Over on my Youtube channel - DLuxeDJ. Feedback welcome....

  • Love Janet & love Cyd, what a combo!

  • lovely song! I am listening to it over and over and over...:-)

  • this use to be my jam I was 9 years old when this song came out I use to be dancing my butt off. I'm glad I was an 80's baby! those where the days!!

  • I wore out this tape.I remember listening to this song over and over. One of my favorites.

  • Yes! Me too! I was younger trying to get all those steps, jumping on my bed to this song! I had so many of Janet's songs on tape....

  • Janet Jackson is one of the best singers out there. Her music amazes me.She's so talented.

  • i need to learn how to dance "new jack swing" style i really like it.

  • I like this video and the dancing is great. She so talented.

  • This is my second favorite video by Janet. My first is Rhythm Nation all the way.

  • that was THE Cyd Charise at 3 44! omg!!!!

  • Yep, and Ms. Charise could outdance any of the girls out there now. She was amazing.

  • i can see the how it compares to smooth criminal but this is more happy and fun smooth was more gangsta dark..lol you can tell they had fun making these videos!

  • What a FAB video.............

  • this has to be my favorite janet jackson song ever. it just gives me such a great feeling. and the video is the icing on the cake.

  • Yes, she imitated Michael and was influenced by him, up to Velvet Rope, there she is her own woman, that is a brilliant R&B album....

  • If it weren't for Michael we wouldn't have this video.

  • OH, FORGIVE ME! How can I forget to mention the incomparable Cab Calloway, the legend indeed! Great to see him in probably one of his last appearances on film/video.

  • They're saying, "Cab Calloway." He was a beautiful singer, passed in 1994.

  • Coolest video around, especially for the fact that its almost 20 yrs old! Says alot about the crappy crap out today. Love how the video pays homage to the old school & bridging the new style. Really love seeing Cyd Charisse (lady in red), nice touch! Heavy D was the jam! Only wish the Nicholas Bros were in a few secs longer. I guess Gene Kelly was too old to be in the video, b/c that would've been extra cool! Janet & all the dancers rocked this, you go!

  • Girlfren sure gave her brother a run for the money with videos like this; between this and smooth criminal it's a toss up for best dance video ever.

  • smooth criminal was much more heavy and intricate in choreography, but this video had great choreography

  • This is an awesome video! Janet is just too bad! Liked the slide at 6:47.

  • Man, Janet has a million dollar smile!

  • I Disagree...

    Its Priceless.

  • what do they say at the beginning??? 0:03

  • I guess its : Cab Galloway

  • Janet Jackson is the Queen of Dance...

    =)

  • I KNOW this is the coolest video ever...OMG, Cab Calloway and Cid Cherisse...just insane! I worship the Nicholas Brothers also...is that really them...does anyone know?

  • This is one of Jan's coolest videos & what a great song! It takes me back. You keep on goin' girl!!

  • I amassing how much Janet copied from Michael's work!!!

  • Yeah...that's why we love her!!! Lil' Sis admired her brother, and she Jam's learning from him!!! Love them Both!!!

  • how so?

  • Cyd Charisse is amazing.

  • she sounds the same as her brother

  • what a freakin happy jam!

  • Her outfit reminds me of smooth criminal

  • Well Mike has said time and time again that he and janet think so much alike creatively that they end up coming up with the same ideas at the same time.

  • this video is so cool i think janet did her thang! mos def : ) her and mike were the originals okaaay!!! :D

  • For a three-album span (Rhythm Nation 1814, Janet, The Velvet Rope), nobody - and I mean nobody - could fuck with Janet Jackson. She was simply the shit.

  • I must add Control to the list.. Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis Kicked her off.

  • Don't get me wrong, I liked Control too. But I felt like she took it to another level starting with Rhythm Nation.

  • what year did this video come out?

  • 1990.

  • This is probably her best one.....Yes, she is indeed talented like MJ and the rest of the Jacksons.

  • She is so talented like her brother

  • Next to Michael Janet Jackson was another of my favorites espeically this video she is always creative and inventive which I think she get's from Michael R.I.P.

  • haha michael jackson little twin =) she remind me of him with that hat on .. love you janet your the best !!!

    r.i.p m.j love you

  • could you please tell me what music have you used for the introduction before the actual song starts.

    thankyou...

  • I have been looking for the type of spectators they wear at 1:20 for 2 years now ahah. they just don't make them unless it's high-dollar, or for men only.

ALso I really love this video, i think many of Janet's songs/vids are actually pretty underrated.

  • Aaliyah favorite song of janet ^^

  • I thought so I remember her saying that.

  • i looove this video one of the best ever . <3 artist need to get back into doing videos that are entertaining

  • what an ensamble cast! the nicholas brothers, cab calloway, and cyde charise!! what a wonderful video and an extraordinary janet jackson is to gather all these icons of american film and music in a music video! thank you, janet! mj is definitely proud of you! rip, mj. watch over janet, your kids and the rest of us. love you jacksons!

  • Janet is so AMAZING! She always impresses me with her wonderful music and awesome videos.

  • "Great Video!!!

  • just like her brother :)

  • i love janet's outfit. very cute and fun video

she reminds me of her brother michael! both amazing entertainers

  • lol Bill Bailey didn't do the Moonwalk, he was a freakin tap dancer.

  • periechon..i hate to disappoint you friend. but Bill Bailey did infact create the "moonwalk" however, Michael Jackson added more "style" to the move. Bailey used it as a way to exit the stage whereas MJ used it as more of a way to enter other dance steps. if you dont believe me type in Bill Bailey moonwalk yourself.

  • I'm not disappointed, I always thought street breakers invented it and taught it to Jackson in the 80's.

I had heard the claim about Bailey but didn't see how or why he would work a sliding technique like that into a tap dancing routine. I thought he had probably just done some kind of backward tap dancing walk which people just wanted to portray as an early moonwalk. You are right though, the move he is exhibiting there technically qualifies as a "moonwalk".

  • SHE LOOKS LIKE MJ AT THE END XD

  • Janet is beautiful and a great singer.

  • U WANNA SEE THE FIRST MOON WALK WATCH BILL BAILEY..OR WATCH THE NICHOLAS BROTHERS WHO R ALSO IN THIS VIDEO ..also the way ur suppose to rap listen to the king heavy d

  • holy CYD CHARRISE!!!!!!!!! AT 3:44 GREATEST FEMALE DANCER EVER.. over 60 and her body looks like that rest in peace CYD!!!

  • I saw on Cyd's wiki page that she was in this video so I found it and started watching it, all the while straining my tired eyes wondering and worrying, "will I be able to see Cyd when she shows up?" I thought something would be different about her considering she was 68 years old. However, when she walked out and started dancing I was so shocked I almost swallowed my tongue along with my teeth. When Cyd dances I can't even see what else is happening on the screen. She must have learned magic.

  • love it...

  • OMG! Janet is definitely my favorite female entertainer, and Alright is one of my fav songs by her, but I didn't even think to check to see if there was a video for it.

Janet's videos were only rivaled by her brother's in creativity and delivery.

Sorry dayzour123, while I love Aaliyah and Janet both, I don't see the vocal comparison. They were both great in their own way.

  • I miss this Janet: Creative, Strong, Sophisticated, and wearing clothes!

  • i agree wit jaeboogz08 u don't see dancing like dis anymore in videos

  • aaliyah sound like her on this song that were she gets her style vocaly

  • HEAVY DEEEEEEEEE! lol yeah

  • When i used to listen to this i never realised it was a tribute to the great music dancing original badass performing CAB CALLOWAY.

  • janet will always be my girl, she was so cute in the 90's,

  • What I always loved about these Janet/Michael Jackson videos of the 80s and 90s was how they were multi racial. Everyone was welcome and nobody felt left out.

When stupid-assed Jami Foxx tried to convince the rest of the world Michael Jackson "belonged" to the black community and was only loaned out to everyone else he really showed his racist ignorance. Did he ever see this video, or "Dangerous" or "Smooth Criminal"? I doubt it!!

    What an asshole.

  • You make a good point here ! Being the only few African-Americans roady/back stage techi ofrom Cincy/LAX on the German music (Munich) scene , your point has some serious merit . I can´t think of of a better way to experience the vibes the music in being back stage , unloading the truck at 6 am ; setting up the stage until 2 pm ; sound check at 4 pm and dinner at 6 ; watching crowds flow in from 6 pm until show time ; and the concert itself from 9 pm until 11 pm and then tear down until 2 am

  • omg i just reverted to childhood watching this... my mom brought me up on some Janet Jackson.. and I remember being about 5 years old when i first heard the song and saw the video.. i thought the little kids dancing in the video was pretty cool! man i miss the 90s!

  • THEY DONT DANCE LIKE THIS ANYMORE

  • omg this was awesome! LUVIN JANET J!

  • You can tell that she's been inspired my Michael SO much, because her video is Long & also the dance moves (Y)

  • I see so much of Michael in her - from their dance, smile, eyes, talent, drive, and love of their craft. It makes me smile ;)

RIP Michael and keep doin watcha doin Janet, I kno his legacy will live on thur u!!!!!! XOXOXO

  • Looks like Universal Backlot New York Street ;) obviously a fake street ..cool vid tho.

  • This is one of my all time favorite music videos. I know MJJ always did it big with his music videos, but Janet could hold her own when she wanted to.

  • this my shit! her and her brother are soooo full of talent! R.I.P. MJ! <3

  • People can say whatever they want about this family, but one thing you can't take away from them was the fact that they were all talented in their own right! I'm watching Janet and Michael's videos in awe on how creative they were. There will never be another Janet or Michael ever. Its sad that MJ never knew how much the world loved him until his death, and I hope Janet knows how much her fans love her now while she is alive to appreciate it.

  • Is the woman with the red dress and black feather boa at 4:00 Cyd Charisse?

  • yezzir! :)

  • Yep, lol I just read that wikipedia

  • Indeed!

  • Yes, that's Cyd. She still looks amazing and can still dance great at her age.

  • I love the fact that Janet incorporates Black History into this video.

  • Hughesjr, you are so spot on!! I totally forgot about that. Thanks so much for reminding me.

  • Amen Hughes Jr.

  • love this video janet and miss heavy D rappin everything is so gansta now

  • Im absolutely speechless. I remember doing the "Running-Man" to this when i was around 6 or 7.

  • Terry Bixler and Anthony Thomas.

  • favorite janet video, whats the name of the two dancers that she's with in the whole video??

  • Wow what a video! They don't produce things like that anymore :( That was the thing about Michael and Janet, they had these great dancers, other artists and amazing storylines in their videos. Nothing today can compare to this

  • One of the best videos by Janet.

  • this was a fun video

  • Comment removed

  • Actually, THIS! Is my favorite video ever. The Music, the Dance, the Smiles, the Celebs, the Rap, the Dance Steps @ 2:43, the Storyline, and Janet. Ya can't beat it!!

God Bless the Family. God Bless Us ALL.

    Amen.

  • and CAB CALLOWAY!!! One of my favs as well :D

  • shit, i remember MTV played this video every hour back in 90

  • yyyyyeeeeeeeaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhh

  • to me best music video ever made.

  • no doubt. absolutely the very best music video production in human history period.

  • The I'm glad to she paid respect to the "Masters" of flashdancing: The Nicholas Bros. @ 6:40-6:45. The inventors of half the dances in that video including the very beginning when the guy jumps and splits on the bench. They did it in Stormy Weather on steps. RIP Fayard and Harold.

  • this was random, but awesome :P

  • i love how they kick when the open the paper at 1:30....i should do that every time i open a paper lol

  • that was funny, i am try that myself

  • this video is off the chain, janet and micheal were known in the 90's for having everyone dancing in their videos

  • The choreography in this video was pretty tight. Good song too.

  • alright

  • This is one of my favorite Janet Jackson songs, too bad this song was underrated and is hardly mentioned as one of her bests..

  • That's probably why it got nominated for a Grammy...

  • Just love Janet!

  • looooooove this video! i love the way she uses the movie stars from back in the day like cyde charisse! :O)

  • i love it when she does vids including a town or city

  • One word . . . Incredible!!

  • OMG Ciara COPIED Janet Jackson in This Video!!!

    i Hate Copycatts!!!

  • TRU DAT!!!

  • Nothing new under the sun! ur comment is silly being that Janet copied most her moves from the legends in this very video.

  • One of my favorite songs from her! Rhythm Nation 1814 is a CLASSIC!!

  • it IS Cab Calloway beforeche passed

  • moves just like her brother!

  • Filmed in February 1990 before the tour began. They first premiered this video publicly at her March 23, 1990 concert in Hartford, Connecticut. So Janet was 3 months to being 24.

  • the original pop princess!

  • One of the top videos of all time...Work Janet!!!!

  • You ain't hardly lying. This video and Rhythm Nation are Janet's best dance videos. She's my favorite female dancer.

  • I would just like to point out that Cyd Charisse - the woman in the red dress - was 68 frickin' years old and looking that damn good. That'll be Janet in 25 years!

  • OH HELL YES!!! Good call!

  • ive never seen that version before ! THANKS FOR POSTIN THAT !

  • Fantastic- thanks for posting this video!

  • music groups today have nowhere NEAR the style that the artists of the 80's did.. The best generation of music videos EVER- not even close...
